| Well, we talked about this show a bit back and now that I am entering the 9th episode of the 3rd season I can actually make better comments about it. As some of you know I really never watched it (maybe one or two eps way back when).
The show's initial movie the gathering was weak and very poorly acted, no wonder half the main cast got the boot by the first episode; but it was interesting enough (perhaps by the influence of your adorating comments) to keep me queuing it on Netflix.
The first season was cool but nothing amazing about it, once again acting was poor and I like seeing chemistry in actors and interaction. Some good possible plot lines kept me interested and the hopes that most of the bad acting was first season jitters.
Second season was much better, a bit corny at times but I think that is part of the appeal of the show, glad the captain came aboard, much better actor.
Third season so far is kicking butt. Now that everyone seems to have worked their problems it flows so much better. Londo is by far my fav out of the bunch. The show remains corny at times but like I said, it seems on purpose and it has a nice appeal to it. I still prefer Star Trek DS9 when it comes to space stations (since that was one of the comparisons made in the old thread) but this show is really good stuff, I am sure it just gets better with time. Looking forward going thru the rest of the DVDs and the movies.
Don't spoil anything for me pls [)] I'd like to be surprised, although one thing that really PO'd me was that the special features in season 2 ruined a couple of things for me, they gave away that Babylon 5 will declare independence and that Sheridan's sister would die (maybe I heard wrong as I quickly muted the thing as he kept talking and talking)...I already saw the first spoiler but the second not yet...I felt like kicking the writer's @ss when he blurted that out...I mean...come on! don't they realize that perhaps some people watching the DVDs are NOT long time fans and perhaps watching it for the first time...sheesh!

| On the DVD Spoiler note -- I've run into that problem on a number of series discs, Buffy in particular. I think that most 'niche' series (Sci-Fi, Fantasy, mainly) are targeted at the shows fans, nion new viewers. Hence the problem.
Re: B5... Great show! My favourite parts are years 3 and 4, and my fav character is G'Kar. (Character-wise. Looks-wise, not so much...) | | Champion of the Flumph!!!

| Season 3 is really a roller coaster. With everything going on, there doesn't seem to be any way that things could still keep going and remain interesting, but they manage!
Season 4 also delivers some solid work. The only bad part about 4 is that they were concerned about the possibility of not having a Season 5. So they attempted too much, too soon in a few spaces.
Season 5--Well, it's better than Season 1! Things do kind of slide here. Much of what should have been handled in Season 5 was placed in Season 4, so parts of 5 can be noticably weak. On the other hand, episodes like Day of the Dead make the Season worthwhile. | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

| I'm glad you're enjoying it Glumag - Season 3 and 4 are definately the best, but once you've watched to whole series, Season 1 and 2 are much better the second (or tenth) time round. I agree that Londo is great, but you haven't got to the best G'Kar stuff yet... I'm sitting here with a giant smile on my face again - I suppose that's a good indication of how much I enjoy B5 - when just thinking of it makes me smile. [:D] | | | |

| 5 seasons(well 2 and 1/2 left),5 movies and 2 aborted spinoffs to look forward to I envy you. I loved B5 even the spinoff that was universaly panned (legend of the Rangers).
I have been a star trek fan since the original series but B5 seemed more 'real' to me. The people didn't get along, fought, have world shattering problems that weren't easily resolved in an hour and even the worst villian would have some redeeming qualities and the most noble heros would have warts. The continuity continued for 5 years, things that happened in the first season would have repercussions in the 5th, this is just good story telling. Star Trek had it as well just not as consistantly.

| I used to watch this show religiously back in the 90's. The thing that got me was;\1 week it was a great episode and the next was crap. All in All a good series. It feels much different when you watch them one fater the other on DVD...I like watching shows like that.
Which brings me to another question. I just got a movie called in the beginning for B5...according to some guides it should be watch somewhere around thirdspace along with the 4th season, some say I should've watched it by now.

| It is chronologically before the series, however, you absolutely should not watch it until after you've seen 'War without End (Parts 1&2)'(Season 3) and 'Atonement' (Season 4). There are various bits of War without End that would be explained way too much if you'd seen 'In the Beginning' first - it's much more fun to wonder and speculate. Atonement has a huge mind shattering revelation that you'd already know if you'd watched the movie first, and that would not be a good thing. I think I saw the first 2 movies it at the end of Season 4, which seemed to be a good place for them. Is that sufficiently clear? [:D] | | | |

| I just thought of something else - 'In the Beginning' ties up a lot of loose ends (or at least weaves them in and out of each other) - and it's incredibly satifying to watch when you recognise that that is what's happening (and when you've been wondering about those loose ends for a while). If you watched it without knowing all the stuff that is resolved perfectly in it, the movie would probably be ok, but not the amazing experience it is for someone who knows what's going on. [:D] I'm smiling again - thanks glumag | | | |

| Thirdspace should probably be watched after you've seen the 4th season.
Its barely a B5 movie, change the cast and setting to something generic and you would have almost the same movie, but it does talk about the aftermath of the midseason events and some of the problems left to deal with so it would spoil some of the major events of season 4.
Its not a bad movie just kind of a generic one, its almost as if they had a screen play laying around and said 'hey we haven't had a B5 movie for a while lets plug in some characters and setting and off we go'.

| Definitely hold off on "In the Beginning"...there's just too much information in there that's treated so "matter of fact"ly that gives away much about the whole series.
"Thirdspace" should be held until after a certain point in Season 4--After that point, it should be fine to watch. After "Racing Mars" I THINK it should be safe for Thirspace--but not before. No, not before. [}:)]
There are a couple "build-points" that get brief mentions, that could still be spoilers. | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

| well, I just finished watching Falling Toward Apotheosis (S4E4) ...holy cow! the things that have happened in the past 10 episodes are awesome, what a turn-around in the quality of the show in all its aspects!
ok, on to disc 2 of season 4 [:D]
biggest unespected thing for me was Sinclair = Valen; I did drop my jaw on that one. | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! SERVER: irc.psionics.net CHANNEL: #maxminis

| [:D] And now you have a totally different definition for the cliffhanger ending to a season. [:D] Just realise how lucky you are to be able to watch them straight through (you've done something like 20 episodes in 5 days if my working out is right). I think here in Australia we had to wait 8 or 9 months between the end of season 3 and the start of season 4. It was VERY long. (and even then we didn't find out what we wanted to know for a couple of episodes). On the other hand, having to wait a week between episodes meant that I watched all of them 2 or 3 times before I saw the next one, and that has helped me remember what happens in each episode, and I had more time to think about what everything meant, and how it joined together. There are brilliant episodes coming up. [:D] | | | |

| Oh, yes. There is still MUCH goodness to be had in Season Four.
I've been going through the series again (it's one that I watch repeatedly--unlike Buffy or X-Files where I drag out episodes here or there, and I'm missing too much Farscape to make it worthwhile), and I'm just a bit behind glumag--I just watched "Apotheosis" tonight.
Man, there is just sooo much good stuff in that show. Kind of like Kosh's first words to Sinclair from "The Gathering"... | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

| "Thirdspace" Spacing:
OK, I did some research over at midwinter--Man, I'm surprised that site is still running, and I've found the "best guess" for the timing of "Thirdspace".
The proper place for "Thirdspace" is between "Atonement" and "The Illusion of Truth." That's episodes 8 and 9. Anytime after that, and you should be good--no spoilers.
