| Heh heh.
I thought bands like Dashboard Confessional and Taking Back Sunday were annoying, but that song is just horrible. At least its moderately less whiney and more just...horrible.
I too have all but given up on mainstream radio. There's a couple of radio stations around here that play a good mix of classic rock, and has very few commercials. That's about the only thing I can tolerate anymore.

You really hit the nail on the head...the pointless whimpering is just obnoxious. The indecipherable lyrics work out ok...so this guy could mock the band to death.

Meh, I was listening to Fall Out Boy and Taking Back Sunday before they were "mainstream." As long as the music is still good I'm not going to label them sell-outs and quit listening just because I hear them on the radio now. You may be an elitist, but you may be a fuddy-duddy, too. Have you had the same job for 3+ years? Have you had the same RPG group for 10+ years? Are you Republican? Do you refuse to convert to D&D 3.5? Do you fall asleep while watching TV or movies?
If you answered "yes" to 5 or more questions then you're definitely a fuddy-duddy. Don't worry, we all get there eventually...[)]

Not so much. Franz Ferdinand and the White Stripes are fairly popular, so I've heard their stuff. Interpol is pretty big though not mainstream, same for Wilco. The Dandy Warhols I've only heard of, not actually heard their music. The Killers are the band I listen to that would be most similar to that stuff, I think. Most of the indy type stuff I listen to is a bit more emo, like the Jealous Sound, Knapsack, or Fairweather. Rainer Maria, Neutral Milk Hotel, and the Lucksmiths are probably the least punky of the indy stuff I listen too. Guess I just need a little melodrama in my music. [:)] | | Champion of Gnomes

I own all of their albums, though the ones I like the most are their two most recent ones. I hardly listen to the first three.
Most of the other bands I listed are only sound a little bit like the ones I listed (as you might have surmised based on the similarity (or lack of similarity)of Franz Ferdinand and the White Stripes). But yeah, I don't doubt we have rather different tastes.

| I forgot to include the Postal Servince on my list. I like "Transatlanticism" by Death Cab For Cutie, but I haven't really enjoyed any of their albums to a great degree so I usually leave them off the bands I listen to list. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists is interesting. I really like their song, "Ballad of the Sin Eater" but it hasn't grabbed me enough to want to explore their music any more than I already have. I only like a few of Snow Patrol's songs. (Spitting Games and How To Be Dead.)
The Yeah Yeah Yeahs are decent, but generally not my thing.
The others I have heard of I just don't really listen to them at all. I remember having a negative reaction to Coheed and Cambria. | | I am not gone.

Also, I am fairly certain Iron & Wine can be considered Indie. [:)]
I haven't heard their Bohemian Rhapsody cover, but I will be sure and look for that. I do like their Mrs. Robinson cover though.
Also, I kinda think of Iron & Wine as "folkish" rather than indie, but I suppose they meet the obscurity requirement. | | Champion of the Revenant Knight of the Elf Duskblade Complete Trades: Oni, Kidkach, Melrune, callidusx3

I am a music snob too, though I really doubt I am the same sort of music snob that populates this thread.
The only older music I really like is the Talking Heads and Pixies, most of my taste is for modern "indie rock" like Wilco, Franz Ferdinand, the White Stripes, Spoon, Architecture in Helsinki, the Dandy Warhols, Interpol, Arcade Fire, the Raveonettes, and Stars.
How many of you have heard of these bands?
Only ones on that im not familar with is ARchitecture in Helsinski and the Stars. Im not the biggest fan of Interpol but I can handle them. | | Im out- find me on Hordelings if you want to chat.
