| A discussion in the General forum got me thinking about this. Some guys at our store play Heroclix at our store quite often, and I can't help gazing whimsically at their Wolverines..... But, apart from the shininess, I know nothing about the game. | It's okay. It depends on what you like, which, I know, doesn't tell you anything.
I think the design is a little clunky. The 40-odd powers you have to look up on the reference card slows down the game, and managing action tokens was always a hassle to me.* Also, I think the clixy conceit of degradable powers doesn't fit the genre well.
But it plays pretty fast, and there is lots of strategy. The game is surprisingly complex when you get into the details of managing your characters, but you can also just play it as a bunch of dudes running around fighting.
And, may I point out, Heroclix was doing gridded maps way before DDM even showed up! [:D]
I like DDM much better, but I still play HeroClix with friends occasionally.

| I used to play heroclix, it was my very first strategy game i really played (i got some MK minis but never used them), In the begining heroclix was a complete success and it was very funny but the game got boring because Limited edition minis and the Unique centrism, the people that use to win was those who manage to use uniques, i though for a time that they make the miniatures and put the stats without playtesting; that makes the game very expensive and killed the game for me.
I love the hero ideas, but when you find that Fantastic four don´t work together you get a little disapointed. What makes me a little upset was that you bought a booster and everything inside was crap... i got one booster with no veteran inside! and the minis where really awful, bad game for collectionist.
Other thing is that fillers don´t work at all they are pretty useless.
Nowdays it have new rules (i don´t know if the game is good now) with scenarios and terrain features, that could make it interesting, but i would not like to play in tournaments or sanctioned games because i don´t fell right.
The last thing that i don´t like is the strange miniatures, for example in armors wars all the minis are really rare to me, i know just few of them, i guess they ran out ideas.
Try the game for yourself is pretty funny as any game but that´s my experience and opion [:D] | | Knight of the Quori Champion of King Kaius III of Karrnath

| The game system is frustrating and not very much fun after you've been playing DDM for a while. Unless you have one or two particular powers (which your figure can lose after being damaged), you can't move and attack in the same turn, or even in subsequent turns without damaging yourself. So you move your guy where you want him, sit there and wait, and maybe get to attack with him 2 turns later.
Skip it.
I collect the Rookie versions and rebase them on DDM style bases, hoping that one day WotC will win the licenses from Marvel & DC. | | | |

This was something we found out from anecdotal research: people who had been used to playing minis game had a really hard time wrapping their heads around the idea that clicky games are a move OR shoot system, rather than move AND shoot system. Card gamers had no problem with it, because you rarely attack with a card on the same turn you do anything else with it.
DDM is, of course, a move AND shoot system. It's a surprisingly subtle, but important difference.

| | Yes the move or shoot is a boring system, and pushing could let you out the power you need to do the things! this makes the game pretty slower. | | Knight of the Quori Champion of King Kaius III of Karrnath
