| | This is gonna sound kinda geeky, but the ages of people on the recent "Gamers Anonymous" thread made me wonder what the age distribution is here on maxminis. Has anyone ever collected all the ages and made some kind of histogram? I'd be interested to know what the median value, etc is. | |

It is a huge speard of ages. With all the members on though, I'm not sure how easy it would be to get that information. | |

I don't think such a collection has been tried, but I'm not exactly sure what it would tell you. Maxminis is a very unique subset of the DDM playing populace. We're the ones who play DDM, have an internet connection, like to trade (probably) and stumbled on to this board. Anyhow, there's probably other data related issues if I thought about it, but as I suppose you're probably not trying to publish your findings in a journal these issues could be overlooked ;p

I guess it depends on whether you distinguish between members and "active" members. For example, if we assume that most of the active members posted their age on the Gamers Anonymous thread, then a quick look seems to put the mean age at around 30. Does this sound right?
Anyway, the reason I was asking about a histogram is because it would be interesting to see how much the distribution of ages bunches up around the mean value. I suspect that the demographics of maxminis is comprised mostly of folks who grew up playing AD&D and reading DL/FR during high school in the 80s. That's certainly the case at my local gaming group. | |

| That fit our local scene pretty well too, until Underdark released.
Lately though, there has be a fairly large influx of fresh blood (under 15) which is great to see, we went from having turnouts of 4-6 (and often cancelling because there was less) for tournaments to getting 12-14 almost every week. | |

I'm not sure I'm volunteering for that, I was trying to suggest an easier way. I'm actually running a ... similar script at the moment that's consuming all of my bandwidth for the next four weeks (I'm downloading about 1.5 million websites, possibly more).
If I have time on my lunch break, I might look into it. But I won't be able to run it for some time (also I don't know if maxminis will start blocking me for running a script).

| Even if you did run the query it is not required to enter your age to join maxminis so alot of people have not listed their age and wouldn't the query also have to take into account how long since the data was entered since it is age and not brithdate being entered.
