This just up at WotC boards, from Shoe:

quote:
Our intention is to release the rulebook online, prior to the wardrums pre/release, and prior to Winter Fantasy.

The online rulebook might contain some updates beyond the printed version, including the new wording of smoke terrain (the rulebook went to print before the smoke rule was hammered out).

As there are changes to some of the rules, it behooves us to help out TO's by providing the rules ahead of time, and introducing those changes, so that TO's and judges can more quickly handle questions that might occur at the prerelease events.

I'll stay away from the need/want discussion.

I gotta say, the constant attitude of the boards there to the designers and espcially Guy, who can't help himself but to defend WotC, is amazing (as in amazingly rude toward Guy and the designers). Guy has hinted that TOs will get what they need to run the event. It is just a game, after all.

But, it is nice to have Shoefirmation on how this will be handled, at least somewhat.

Fastest dropping DCI ranking on record!

and political/religious boards being the nasiest for inighting and bad behaviour.

So many people who think the world owes them.

Good to know. Sadly there are few repercussions for bad behavior online, so people often let their worst side come out. The DDM board can be bad at times, but really there are just a couple hotheads - stuff like MMO boards are even worse.

I must say I'm loving how much Shoe has been posting at Maxminis lately. Thanks Shoe![^] It's fun getting to interact directly with the design and development team as well as get to know them quasi-personally.

I seriously don't understand the atttitude at the WotC boards sometimes. It's enough to drive one away.[V]

I noticed that as well and I must say it is why I read these boards 100 times more often than WoTC's. Everyone here is so friendly and helpful for the most part.

They have to appeal to a larger target. MaxMinis can be more selective and hell, even arbitrary. The community peer pressure also does a better job of keeping folks on an even-keel.

That and the mods/admins lock threads commonly. This reminds folks (new and old) what kind of behavior should be avoided.

I moved to maxminis fairly recently as the tone on the WOTC boards tended to be either insulting or rude when people would ask questions. There are very few "thank yous" (albeit a few) for prompt responses as well. I've been quite pleased with Maxminis (probably why I've posted so much this week). People are friendly, helpful, and often quite amusing.

I imagine that Shoe has probably seen the same trendings on both boards and I'm glad to see that he is posting with greater frequency here. Class will tell.

Actually, it's more than enough.

I used to post several times a week (sometimes several times a day) over there. Now I post once every several weeks.

The attitude and information is much better over here.

On Topic: I'm going to have to keep an eye out for the downloadable rules. It's a shame (but it happens) that the updated version wasn't ready before it had to go to the printers. But at least it is (or will be) available.

first welcome zenthrus, hope to see you saturday and finialy for you to get to really play DDM [:)] Drakkengi will not be present, but hopefuly some other top players will show.

I spend very little time on the wizards site, I only go to get info from Guy (well and eberron advise). As some can see I spent too much time here. I also am with the group that likes to see shoe posting here often [:)]

Bah, I'd rather they had not provided the rules. Then I'd have more to complain about. Now, instead of complaining, all I can do is gloat that I was right when I said I was sure the rules would be posted before the release tourneys. I'd much rather complain than gloat ...

See...proves my point! I'll bring a map and a warband Saturday!

As to War Drums rules I'm planning on making to the release so having the rules a little ahead of time is definitely a big plus. Poor Guy has just about had his head torn off on a couple of occasions over the rulebook being posted early (despite hints that it would be posted).

Really? I've seen both degrade, almost to the same extent. I guess the wiz site does it more often because it usually has the noobs dropping in there first to get their feet wet. Most people here are friends and veterans. Some weeks it's boring here (with all the inside banter, that the outside man just won't get), but fun there; other times it's ridiculous over there with bickering and intellectually stimulating over here. It's nice to be able to flip between the two. [:)]

No joke! It's one thing to voice disappointment over the choice of a mini in a given set. But, verbally (or typing) assaults against employees doing their job over a game--A GAME!--is simply too much.

Personally, I applaud all of the hard work the employees of WotC (and the Heroscape portion of Hasbro) for all of their diligent efforts. I may not agree with all of their choices, but I certainly respect their dedication and loyalty to their customers and the game itself. Bravo! Especially Guy and Shoe, who do try to put in appearances here at maxminis! Thanks much!

I've popped my head in over at the Wizards board a few times, but never liked the tone or the abuse I read over there. Here, with a few exceptions, it's been much better and more adult. Hence, my residence here... even though I don't post much.

In the dark days of metal WotC minis I frequented the WotC boards with some frequency. Now I forum surf there and post here with a little bit of regularity. I too like the community feel here even when it degrades and feels a little tense.

I think the main reason for the tone here is that we are all looking to future trades with one another. Now, I am not saying that we are the best of buds of looking to each other as roommates. But knowing that the guy you are talking to might be a future trade partner might have a sub conscious effect on being nice. Having the mods around that lock threads and accounts is a blessing as well. Right or wrong we have to remember that we are all human and prone to make mistakes. Alright, back to the topic…

With the on line release I might actually read through the rules and see what I think. One of the main reasons that I never really wanted to get into Chainmail or the skirmish side of life was that I have a better use for the slice of gaming dollar. With the rules being available I might actually take a peek at them...[:D]

Thanks, Shoe

The issue with board tone, IMO, is that it's really fairly contagious. I used to post over at WotC all the time. At first I was pretty nice about stuff. Then eventually someone would not only be rude, but they'd be flat out wrong. I would end up sending them a nasty post only to get one in return. Then the next post I'd be viewing would already have me in a foul mood and so forth and so on.

Eventually I felt like every time I went over to wotc I was just raising my blood pressure and not even having any fun. I migrated over here and have enjoyed laughing with posts a lot more than gritting my teeth. As for the employees that put up with it every day, they have my sympathy.
