Anyone ever had a bid come up on ebay the was placed before your bid that jacked up the price that wasn't an automatic up bid? I placed a bid on this item

http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=6037496141

when it was listed for $85 on the 24th after placing my bid 3 bids suddenly appreaded that were placed on the 23rd over 12 hours before mine. Anyone ever seen this or had it happen to them. I was justing wondering if this is normal or something I should contest.

Well it does look a bit wierd on the surface. Could you have been looking at a cached version of the auction on your browser?

User ID Bid Amount Date of bid

sage_raistlin ( 157) US $123.49 Feb-24-06 11:32:39 PST
sage_raistlin ( 157) US $122.00 Feb-24-06 11:32:27 PST
jonnatufian ( 168) US $120.99 Feb-23-06 22:51:57 PST
jonnatufian ( 168) US $115.99 Feb-23-06 21:38:16 PST
jonnatufian ( 168) US $111.11 Feb-23-06 21:37:24 PST
usa1kimo ( 117) US $84.00 Feb-24-06 08:24:01 PST
usa1kimo ( 117) US $82.00 Feb-24-06 08:23:38 PST

Also it could have worked this way, that middle bidder Jonnatufian had dropped down his bids on the 23rd, and then got pushed up to 85 by usa1kimo who dropped out after pushing Jonnna up. However Jonna had put a number of larger bids into the que. When you went and dropped some bids down, they just happened to hit the same "sweet" spot that the previous bidder had determined was good, and when you saw how close the lower bidder was you upped you bid a bunch and ended up with the $2.50 delta. I think that is what happened now that I work it through....

Built the addition for this addiction, now on to the "gaming table" project....

I was using the F5 key to refresh the page so it shouldn't have been in the cached and I just came acrosse it today. So if I am understanding you correctly the other person must have keyed in 3 different proxy bids last night, which is why when the proxy was bidding it ended up showing 3 different highest bids instead of just one for that person.

I was perplexed by the 3 different amounts being listed, as a proxy should only show for the highest amount it was outbidded on. I can see if the person entered in 3 different ones how it would have ended up looking like that.

I only entered 2 bids one at $122 and then one for $132 when I my max had been reached already as the hishest bid 122. I hate loosing because I was off on my max bid by a buck......

It makes sense. The computer updates the bids based on other people's stated maximums, but those maximums were set when their initial bid was made many hours - or days - earlier so it likely tags them with the time the original bid was made.
