| I'll be changing my Avatar to a different Rush album cover at the beginning of every month.
Really the album that defines the band in alot of peoples' minds. While they were already firmly entrenched, and had a legion of fans, Moving Pictures really opened the band to a wider audience. The megahits Tom Sawyer and Limelight are very accessible songs (and great for die-hard fans as well). If I had to pick a single song that was my favorite, it would be The Camera Eye (hence the quote in my sig...).
The album cover continues their puns. Hugh Syme did a great job on this one.

Fly by Night
Another classic and one of the more beautiful album covers. Fly by Night introduces the first of their cover-art puns, a trend that continues through the years. A great album that really foreshadows that awesome writing that is to come. Just a good, solid, rockin' album!

Hold Your Fire
This month I grabbed one of the simplest album cover designs in the Rush portfolio. However, it is a design that I've always liked despite its simplicity. As far as the music on Hold Your Fire goes, its in that Power Windows-Roll the Bones Era, when Rush waxed introspective and lost some of their edge. There are definitely some good songs on this album, but its far from their best.

Had to go with a classic this month, and the image that is most associated with the band. If you read or listen to the old interviews, the trio will tell you that this is the album that saved Rush.

Vapor Trails
This month is Vapor Trails, chosen because its the one I'm listening to most right now. Strangely enough, both the Radio Song (One Little Victory) and the Concert Song (Earthshine), are among the weaker tracks on this album (IMO). My favorite is Ceiling Unlimited, with How It Is and Out of the Cradle as runners up. As far as album covers go, I think this is clearly one of the best. It doesn't push Grace Under Pressure out of the top spot, but its definitely a solid 2-4.

| Hmmm... I never picked up Vapor trails. It's the only album after test for Echo, correct? I need to go do that.
You really like Grace Under Pressure's cover art the most? Mine is probably either Permanenet waves for Farwell to Kings.
Ah... Gotta go give my rush disk's a spin now.

| There seems to be a disproportionate number of Rush fans amongst DDM players.
Black Flame Zealot was walking around with a Rush 30th Anniversary baseball shirt at WF. JDB2112, well, he's nick has 2112!
I had a mural in my Dorm room at college with all my vinyl (dated!) covers from Rush up to Presto (last vinyl album I believe). It was pretty sweet.
3 times live for me, Presto, Roll the Bones, and Counterparts. Not a ton, but then, I've probably only been to about 20 concerts all told.

Depends on what type of music you listen to regularly. Their lengthy career spans a variety of styles. You might be better off with one of their newer compilation or live albums. | |

Truly spoken...
My favorite period is the A Farewell to Kings, Permanent Waves, Moving Pictures, Signals era. Some of their newer stuff leading up to Vapor Trails takes multiple listens to get into (at least for me).
If you want 1 defining album/song, I'd recommend Moving Pictures (album), and specifically Tom Sawyer(song). Its the song that they're most famous for. | |

Power Windows is probably my favorite. Hold Your Fire is very good too. I've come to regard Presto highly.

It is fantastic and it's one of those albums that kinda snuck up on me. When it was released, I said okay, not their best effort but not bad and then as the years went by it just got better and better. I now think it's one of their best efforts. | |
