| | Any Battlestar Galactica fans out there who saw the finale and were disappointed? I think that several times, they bridged over things without going into the normal detail of storytelling. The worst part was the shift to a long time later. All the characters changed and the situation changed so much, it didn't feel like the same show anymore. It was surreal. It was a big disappointment for me. This was the first time I saw a cliffhanger episode on that show where I almost don't care to see the conclusion. | | "Look to God and live." | My wife and I have been huge fans of the show since about halfway through season 1. We were both very disappointed by the finale episode. It wasn't so much the time jump, just the lack of explanation and character exposition with the expectation that we'll actually bother to tune in in October for season 3. I really think the producers/writers may have killed the show. A lot of people on the BSG boards are hoping it's a gas induced dream that Starbuck and the others are experiencing on Caprica. Personally, I would rather they pull the 'dream sequence' switcheroo and go back to what's been working with the show.
On a related note, I'm getting really tired of the 'cliffhanger' season finale trend that's been going on the last decade or so. If the show is good enough for me to watch regularly, I'd rather have some loose ends tied up before I have to wait six months for a new episode, rather than have the whole dang show unravel and have to wait that long. If a show is good, I'm going to tune in next season anyway. (end rant) | | Champion of the Yeti (large uncommon please!) Assistant to the Regional Manager

| I suspect a dream sequence, otherwise is cheese-balls for the show.

| | i dont think its a dream sequence at all. the fact that a few certain cylons show up at the end prove that. I have no problem with them going into the future to see how bad its getting for the new colony and what happens under corrupt leadership. Adama will rescue them and i wont be shocked if Baltar ends up on the cylon side.. I liked the show finale. Sure i dont like cliffhangers because it leaves you hanging for more. The anticipation of a cliffhanger makes me long for October. Most of the good shows end in cligg hangers of some kind. Good marketing by sci fi and other networks that take advantage of it. sure you will come back but now you are a little more eager or at least i am. | | The ROCK layeth the smacketh down. | If they had ended it with the explosion it would have been the cliffhanger we havecome to expect, but the show went on for another half an hour exploring what happens 1 year later.
I can see two points of view, one it could be a dream sequence brought on by balthars guilt. He gave 6 the device and knows on, at least some level, he was resoponsible for the original destruction as well and when he lays his head down he's imagining whats going to happen now. I really don't see some of the changes made by the characters over the year... but people do change. and two it is reality, the bulk of the colonists are tired of ship life and don't care what they have to go through to live on the ground. The last year the cylons have been going through changes brought on by the 'rebel hero' cylons. They want a peace with the colonists but in exchage they want a certain percenage of the humans for there breeding programs. In the next season this may prove to much for the humans and a cold war/resistance ensues with the end result being everybody up and leaves on the ships again to get away from the cylons. This time the cylons pursue with capture instead of destruciton in mind.
just my 2 cents worth. | | | |

| Interesting takes. Here is my thoughts.
As far as the "standard" cliffhanger, yeah they are getting played out and I too would like some closure of various threads. With BSG this could be more of the plot things. For instance they could have played the moral sides up more with the election and brought some of teh story threads to a close by developing more with the various characters by a reflection on the old colonies.
They didn't and I am cool with that just could have been a different close.
As to the way things are panning out. I think that this is a really good interpretation of the way things would have gone in a year's time. A gritty reality of life on a new planet with limited resources. I think this is all very real. Gaius was warned after the election about the nuke. But, as we have known for sometime Gaius doesn't care and is only absorbed with his own lecherous and personal demons brought on by his affection for #6. Interestingly enough Sharon 8 still has feelings for Chief who is presumably married to Kayly and with child. Starbuck married to Anders etc.
Things that kinda stick in my craw a bit are that even though there is available technology there appears to be an appearent fog or "We forgot how to do that." Like with the antibiotics, this part is buggin me. I mean I would presume that if there is a science lab that can extract the "miracle baby blood" that can cure cancer with a drop then there would be some glassware laying around that a couple techs could make some media and start making antibiotics. I am not talking about huge mass quantities but enough for a small city.
A small city like what is on New Caprica even with a defunct leadership would still be making headway. But then it might be part of the plot of the defunct leadership....I am still liking the show and thought ath I would share some of my thoughts.....

| There was a tvguide interview on the tvguide web-site.
It is *not* a dream sequence. Season 3 will continue from what we saw in that last 1/2 hour. | | Champion of Meepo _*_ Myztek on the Wizards Boards. _*_ (2206 DDM on 03/06/06) Please note: The use of the indicates an attempt at humor ... often a bad attempt. | Hmmm...
I don't frequent any BG sites, so this is the first I've seen that people are disappointed.
I LOVED the ending, just because it was so different from anything I've seen before. I think they set up the next season perfectly. The look that Blondie gave Baltar when he realized that she had been playing him was priceless. They gave just enough hints that you have a readers digest version of what happened to all the main characters.
I just assumed that everyone liked it, and I'm surprised by the negative reactions. I hope this doesn't mean that the show's in trouble. | | Rhane "The focus is sharp in the city..." Have/Want List Reference thread Avatar Thread

| I as well love it
We were talking about it at work and before we knew that they signed the contract for season 3 we were thinking they might end it here. (we are glad they did not) but the ending was less of a cliff hanger than last season. they could have ended it right there and i would not have been pissed (it would have been better than just stopping the show without any conclusion).
As far as the hair issue goes. It been one year of being layed back and setting into a new life. adama is just kicking back in his ship. Starbuck is not a millitary officer ect ect ect. This to be explains why their hair changes so much in one year but not at all in two.
The time Jump: This was cool to me. I have a love\hate feeling about the election and how they tried to cheet it however showing what happens when you elect an incompetent leader is great (Mmm sounds like a relftion on U.S. politics in the last few years!)
I love that the fleat (what is left of it) ran away. it was Die here or run and have a slim chance at saving them.
The fact that most of the wemon were pregent is very reaslistic. The goal in a building society like this is make the populatino grow. However i would have expected more childern (mabye they need more time to show that... next season)
I also think that the old president (what's her name?) was brilant to keep the adopted mother of the child and the Scylon child close. That was great
All in all i can understand that people are bothered but the episod. However i don't agree. My bigest problem is that i have to wait until oct. before it starts again.

| Hey It was different than everything else currently out there and we all have our re-action to it.
Most will watch it next season I think. We have a need to see where it is going.
I love the show the finale was good and better in retrospect as to what it opens up for the future. | | Unto Death We Strive,

| After the "skip one year ahead" thing started, my wife and I both concluded that it had to be a dream sequence, but as it kept going we both had our doubts (now we know). I was dissappointed at first, then it started to shape up a little better.. We ended up liking it as a whole, and will have to wait the agonizing months until the next season starts.

| The Finale threw me for a loop at first... the camera work seems almost incongruous, although they haven't changed styles.
My thoughts:
* Definitely not a dream state.
* Hair changes: this has been covered before. De-militarization means that people get lax.
* This calamity is a good thing. It'll make them forget about the political machinations for a little while at the least, and unite again. Proving yet again that laxity = mistakes = deaths.
* Let's the writers get past all the terrorists... now that the cylons are "ruling" some of them should come to their senses (more unity, see above).
* Baltar's been duped. Now we get to see where is self-absorbed, conniving self goes. Here's his chance to parallel with the old series and go completely to the Cylon side... or to get some testicular fortitude and connive for the humans. I'm still half-betting that he's a sleeper cylon... I hardly belief crouching behind 6 would preserve his life in a nuclear shockwave...
* While they only gave us a snapshot of what was going on a year later, I still prefer that to the extra episode required to lay it all out... political machinations, conflicts, etc... more of the same that we really don't ~need~ to see; we can infer from what we know about people's characters how they'd get to where they are. Was surprised by Starbuck's actually marrying, tho... that won't last.
* Overall, I like the finale because it keeps with the dark, gritty depiction of this BSG. I just keep waiting for the Pegasus to be destroyed... hoping that it won't, but knowing deep down that it wouldn't be Battlestar Galactica for nothing...

| | I liked it. It surprised me, but I liked how the series isn't merely a rebroadcast of the original series and is true to it's reimagining of the BG universe. I wouldn't have taken it there, but I trust the writers to bring it to a good place quickly. | | I am a leaf on the wind...Urrk!!--Wash, "Serenity" | |

I sure hope so, because I have lost most of my interest at the moment. Waiting for next season won't be a problem for me at all, compared to previous cliff-hanging endings. | | "Look to God and live." Alma 37:47 Vindicated Champ of Hippogriff (Arcadian Hippogriff) and Uncommon Horse
