| Surely someone out there has played Runebound. Is it worth buying? Does it have much replay value, or is it a one time shot?
What are your opinions?

| I've played it but only twice. It's fun but I'm not sure how many times I'd want to play it. If I could get it discounted I might grab a copy.
Fantasy Flight Games makes some good stuff, but they aren't cheap. I've wanted to buy Descent for a while now. | | WotC - making me wish more and more every day for a return to the TSR days. :( I fought the snark and the snark won. I'm baaaaaaaaaaack!

| | Yeah, the cost is what's keeping me from just picking it up. I keep my eyes out on eBay, but no real good deals yet. | | Any time you try to make something idiot-proof, someone always goes out and invents a better idiot. Champion of Siege Equipment | |

| | I picked up the first version and didn't enjoy it much. There is almost no interaction bwetween players, so it feels like there is a lot of downtime. I also just can't get into Fantasy Flight's 'fantasy world'. It just seems cheesy and lame, IMHO. | | Champion of Aspect of Juiblex (with Oozemaster) and Aspect of Skurmsh! | |

| I think it is one of the best and most replayable 'fantasy' themed board games on the market:
a. it's got a simple combat system that is easy for beginners to pick up (though more advanced D&D players might find it unfair that you get hit everytime you miss);
b. it's got pretty good game mechanics - you can choose how tough your enemies are (and the fights are pretty balanced), and customise your items and your party (if the markets are nice to you);
c. it's got really nice graphics; and
d. it can be expanded with the expansion board and card sets so you don't have to keep replaying the same scenario (currently there are 2 board expansions and 7 card expansions).
My only gripes about the game are that movement between hexes can get a bit ridiculous in difficult terrain like mountains (because it is dependent on what you get on the movement dice), some of the characters are just too weak (e.g. Ronan of the Wild) to win with, and some items are just too powerful for the game (e.g. the mirror).
All these can be fixed with a few house rules, though. | | Completed Trades (26): dropbear(5), cormulan, vash9284(2), caliban(2), minatoman38(2), doone, bugsy, sjpadbury, hockeyfan, thor, smithmeg, sttmxn, ckissee, oni, avrivah, thenameless, griffrat, thailfi, lcs | |
