Did anyone else catch the D&D references in Sunday's Family Guy episode? Let me recap.

Premise: Lois thinks she might be pregnant and mentions it happened the night they were role-playing.
Lois: (dressed as a school girl) I've been naughty, I need a spanking.
Peter: I'm a paladin with an 18 Charisma and 97 hit points and a Helm of Disintegration that does 1D4 points of damage, with my elven mage who has a +5 Holy Avenger.
Lois: Peter! A paladin can't use a Helm of Disintegration!
Peter: Oh. Then I'm a black guy!

I was amazed at how accurate it was to D&D, but I don't remember ever seeing a Helm of Disintegration. Funny thing is, if there were such a thing, a paladin probably wouldn't be allowed to use it due to alignment restictions.

I'm sure a Helm of Disintegration would do more than 1d4 damage, too. Also, I'd think the Paladin would have the Holy Avenger, not the Elven Mage.

It was still pretty funny, and I had a feeling they were going to go that way when they mentioned role playing. However, I think for sheer accuracy, Stephen Colbert's bit on D&D from the Colbert Report might top the list.

I missed that Colbert Report- but he seems the type to play D&D. I was mostly shocked to see things so specifically D&D in Family Guy instead of generic role-play.

I'm not. Seth McFarlane is a self-admited geek. I'm sure he's put in more than his share of time behind the screen.

I laughed so hard I almost cried when I saw the Family Guy bit.

If you read the WotC coffe table book 30 Years of Adventure it gives excerpts from all kinds of famous people who game. Futurama and The Simpsons have some D&D references as well.

Thanks for sharing the Stephen Colbert clip- that was too specific to not be true! I loved his "redundant" comment! It's also funny how he referred to the Great D&D Scare of '84. (Read my post in the D&D IS EVIL topic to read my rediculous memories of this.)

Homer was less specific with his comment, "We played Dungeons and Dragons for THREE HOURS, then I was slain by an elf." Futurama actually had Gary Gygax on an episode (with his +2 Mace), as well as a beholder working at the Bureau of Bureacracy(?).
