| Stupid rules issues are some of the best episodes. Durkon's combat math is my favorite, and we joke about it all the time in our RPG group. I've had to rule that im my group, Durkon's combat math is fine until after the turn passes to someone else.
I liked the last box in the strip (along with several other comments)--the part where the second library person says something about the 350 gp in ink. | | "Look to God and live." Alma 37:47 Vindicated Champ of Hippogriff (Arcadian Hippogriff) and Uncommon Horse

| Considering how often I play wizards I feel the pain. The rules for scribing are completely arbitrary and their essence is captured perfectly in this strip.
It even looks like Haley is going to be fixed soon (her trip to the clerics a couple of strips back indicates this).
OotS is definitely picking up after a rather boring slump (the Azure City downtime).
I also loved the battle between intermission snacks. [:D] | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? Champion of Dwarven Thunderlashers Knight of the Large Dire Chicken Have/Want List Trade References

My wife pointed out that all the old school snacks were wizards (popcorn casting lightning, milk dudes casting fire, soda casting a buff or something) and the new school snacks are not (pizza fighter, mocha ranger, nachos dwarf) | | "Look to God and live." | I agree. This one rocked! I really like V, he's favourite only to Xylon. Belkar is third. The snacks one was also funny, and when they brought back the 'whoo, I'm naked !' joke (my brother's personal favourite, should I be worried? [)]) | | My Trading Thread

Does anyone really use the "One pell scribed per day" rule and how many pages are in the spellbook and how many pages each spell takes?

Part of the joke is that Varr's gender is never revealed. Sometimes it seems like shes a girl and sometimes he seems to be a man. Even the other characters in the comics dont seem to know for sure.
Its actually kind of stupid...But the character's personality and actions make up for it.
I lean toward her being a "She"...She was part of the "Charlie's Angels" team when Roy wore the belt of femininity, and she is always paired with Haley when they sleep at the inn. | | Champion of the Skulk Vindicated Champion of the Twig Blight

We use "one spell scribed per day", but we just ignore spellbook size issues. | | Completed trades: Gausse, Mazra, Pagansexy, Galerians, Lord_Raven, Drakkengi, Temujinn x2, Random Sasquatch, elf_ranger, Azuretide, Hung4treason, Griffrat (face2face), Nasamonkey Carpe Forum!

| When I DM I'm pretty lax about scribing spells.
When my friend DMs he's by-the-book. Of course, he also runs 2nd edition modules without really doing much in the way of conversion to 3rd edition rules (4th-level party faced dozens of hook horrors/trolls in the Greyhawk Ruins). He just likes TPK [:D] | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? | | As far as scribing scrolls goes, I have ruled in my campaign that they have to do it in a city/town or other place they can secure for a day. Now that we're doing Red Hand of Doom and time is an issue in the storyline, I have been strict about 24 hours to scibe a spell. I haven't decided if I am doing anything about the number of pages in a spellbook, though. | | "Look to God and live." | We use the scribe rule but not the spellbook. We don't really get into spellbook settings and such. But one scribe spell per day.

| I use the spellbook "pages/spell" rule, but not the "only one scribing per day."
As far as gender, V is a female character played by a guy. Female for the reasons Dooku mentioned, male because how the familiar is handled.
I have 4 female gamers in my group, and anytime familiars, animal companions, or special cohorts are involved, they all are very protective, willing to take the hits on their own character to protect the pet wolf. Guys in my groups have all used their animal companions as a walking bag of hitpoints, figuring that any attacks at the animals are swings not taken against them.
V doesn't care one whit for the familiar, and when Haley named it, responded with a question of "Why? I didn't name any of my other class features." | | Champion of the Entire Monster Manual 1! (Click link to see current progress!) Uncommon Painting Competition 2 Winner
