| I should NEVER, NEVER have gone into the Crafter's Corner.
It was "bad news" just waiting to happen. Sure, it all started innocently enough. It was just another way to boost my post count and (more importantly) see some repaints. All the repaints were probably gonna look like crap, anyway. What harm could there be in that? I mean, I'm over that little "painting habit" I used to have. I've been clean since '92.
Yeah, I know what you're thinking. And I'll admit that I slipped off the wagon a couple times and purchased a couple things, but I never started painting full scale, and I certainly only did it once or twice--It was only a couple blister packs. Honest. And then right back on the wagon.
Well, that's all changed. Seeing all those repaints over in the corner started my bones to itching. So I figured I'd hit ebay and see what some of the old Chainmail minis were going for. After all, it's not like I'm going to buy any, and I'd keep it to Chainmail because I really liked some of the figures and the idea of the Chainmail Equivs so you could use some Chainmail figs in DDM.
Where could there be any harm in that? It's all innocent fun, right?
Ri-ight. I don't know how it happened--I'm still in a bit of a state of shock, but I somehow purchased some non-PVC minis. A bunch of non-PVC minis. Minis that I will have to paint. Minis that I will have to assemble. Minis that I will have to store carefully. Most of which don't even have an Equivilent in DDM. It must have been a computer glitch. I must have been staring too intently at the screen. It was temporary insanity to the Nth degree...
I couldn't have fallen off the wagon after almost 15 years!! I worked so hard at staying clean!
I'm weak.
I'm pathetic.
But at least I've got pewter minis...[)] | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

| This is how I look at it is that all the metal minis that I have and all the terrain that I have and make now is because I can. Not because I have to. Meaning that DDM is a huge time saver and the metal minis that I paint are for special PC killing timesevents where I want the players all to remember how things went down.....

| It funny how people are different. I HATE painting minis...I see no corralation at all between enjoying RPGs and enjoying painting little metal figures. You would think those two activities have nothing to do with each other. Yet so may like both. In the dark days of miniatures (everything before Harbinger) I owned 2 types of minis. The plastic figures from the Hero Quest and Dragonstrike boardgames...and metal minis that I would either spray a coat a light gray paint onto or not paint at all. Oh and if a metal mini required peices that needed to be glued together I didnt bother getting it. :) | | Champion of the Skulk Vindicated Champion of the Twig Blight | |

For me it is the smell of the super glue. The thrill of almost cutting a finger off with a power tool...and just the idea of taking something and giving it more of my persona than it really needed...[:D] | | Ambassador of FUN!!!

This is the way I look at it. Why paint stuff myself when I can have an expert do it, and do it better than I ever could? I'm willing to pay the fee and have this done.
I will never have the desire/time to practise enough to get really good so I'm content to have others do it for me. [:D] | | WotC - making me wish more and more every day for a return to the TSR days. :( I fought the snark and the snark won. I'm baaaaaaaaaaack!

| | Yeah, I am on the list of people who don't want to paint minis. It's funny when I think back to starting 3rd edition, when just using dice to represent creatures was enough. (Man those days were easier on the wallet) | | Champion of the Beholder and Beholderkin

| | I enjoy painting metal minis, but I don't have time. I still have a handful of Reaper minis from 2-3 years ago that still haven't had brush touched to it. | | I enjoy painting minis even if they don't turn out as well as I hope, but never eseem to have enough time. I like buying the already painted D&D minis because I don't have that guilty feeling I get buying metal minis thinking of all the unpainted lead/pewter stuffed away in the closet. | | Champion of Aspect of Juiblex (with Oozemaster) and Aspect of Skurmsh! | |

| Must feed the MONKEY.
The MONKEY is demanding it's due!
*sigh* I just added a few more minis to my collection. Naresh Set 2 Combo Box; Naresh Combo Box; Ogre Mercenary; and the Mercenary Set 2 Combo Box. I missed out on the other two sets I wanted, but I had to draw the line somewhere, y'know.
Gotta get a pin vise. Primer. Some brushes. PAINT!! Metal wire (for pinning joints). Scalpel/X-Acto. Something to base--Maybe I can con...uhhh...VINCE, yeah, conVINCE Temperence to send me some of his resin stones.
What HAVE I gotten myself into?

| Welcome to the cult club [:D]
Naresh Combo 2 has the Howler in it, doesn't it? That is one beauty of a mini. I've got a pack going although all but one are still in the first stages of getting painted (had to pause to paint the Tiefling Blademaster).
As to feeding the monkey...at least you don't have to make your own 4-armed monkeys out of War Apes. I love Girallons. | I think the Howler might be in one of the boxes, I'm honestly not too sure. [:0] I just got into the moment, and had found several sets up from the same seller. So I went a little crazy.
The haul I described a couple posts up was for about $25 (including shipping). I do wish I had been able to grab the other two, though (my bids would only have added another $20 to the total).
I had a brilliant idea for a "Snowy" Owlbear. [v]

| The first batch arrived today. It's been soo long since I've examined metal "in the raw" as it were. I'm having trouble seeing the detail...I can see that it's there, I just can't tell what all of it is!
Just about everything looks OK, although several parts needed straightening--and the sound of creaking metal was not pleasant to my ears. And the Abyssal Ravager was a poor cast, it only has 3 legs!
I might have to buy some green stuff and see about sculpting a new one, or just altering the paint job to make it look like an injury.
I'm still not sure whether or not I'm going to open the Ogre Merc...It's a "limited edition" and my paint skills are simply "limited". [)] I guess that I've got plenty of other things to keep me busy in the meanwhile, though. I'll have even more when the other boxes start arriving. | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?

| My Ravager has four legs...two widely spaced on the left, two right next to each other on the right. It would be pretty cool to alter the paint to look like somebody lopped off the missing limb [^]
The Ogre Merc is probably the best Ogre I've seen (much less painted). He's full o' detail and large enough that painting the detail isn't as big of a hassle.
Good luck. Have fun. Feed the monkey [:P] | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? Champion of Dwarven Thunderlashers Knight of the Large Dire Chicken Have/Want List Trade References

| I got tons of Chainmail minis....none that I will ever paint, since I can barely paint walls.
I just like them cause they are much cheaper then a lot of the older DDM versions

| Well, the rest of the first wave has arrived. I really need to stay off ebay (for a while, at least).
I'm now the proud owner of 48 Chainmail miniatures (with three more coming).
Ahumut's Legion * Battered Skeletal Troll * Gallowsgaunt * Human Death Cleric * Skeletal Orc (2) * Skeletal War Dog (2) * Zombie Troglodyte
Drazen's Horde * Hobgoblin Adept * Goblin Scout (3) (1 of whom is missing the extra piece for the crossbow) * Hobgoblin Fighter * Ogre Delver (3) * Ogre Trooper (2) * Orc Berserker (2) * Orc Druid (3) * War Ape (2)
Kilsek * Displacer Beast * Drow Ranger (with a broken sword) * Drow Soldier * Drow Warrior * Drow Wizard * Kuo-Toa Trooper * Troglodyte Warrior
Naresh * Abyssal Ravager (miscast) * Gnoll Monk * Gnoll Ranger (2) (1 with a miscast bow--but it's not too bad) * Gnoll Warrior (2) (1 with single flail, the other with the three header) * Howler * Tiefling Fighter
Ravilla * Centaur Trooper * Crested Felldrake (too bad the HAR one didn't look like this!) * Gray Elf Duelist * Gray Elf Wizard * Wood Elf Ranger * Wood Elf Scout
Mercenaries * Grimlock Trooper (2) * Ogre Mercenary * Otyugh
And the real kicker is: IT'S TOO WET TO DO ANYTHING WITH THEM! I cant get them outside to prime, so I can't start painting! I can trim the flash up, but that's it.
It's really a shame that so many folks went hog-wild for the rarer figs (i.e. Very Young Red Dragon, Orc Champion, most Drow, etc.). I could really use some of them for some more interest in my metals.
On the bright side, I've now got a list of all the Chainmail figures, whether or not they have equivilants, and what those are. Yeah, I've been obsessing over this. | | Champion of the Werewolf Lord, Knight of Anything Duergar, and Squire of Things Gnollish List reset with the start of previews for each new set...got Chainmail®?
