| As the title says, this classic anime is looking yet again to make it to the big screen.

One of my favourite anime along with Macross/Robotech. So personally, long live Battleship Yamato!

| Why does this scare me?
Star Blazers was my second exposure to anime. The first being Battle of the Planets. Then I moved to Robotech and my personal favorite Voltron (lions only)
Of course now 20+ years later I loathe anime in almost all shapes and forms. | | WotC - making me wish more and more every day for a return to the TSR days. :( I fought the snark and the snark won. I'm baaaaaaaaaaack!

Ditto. Sums me up almost word-for-word. Don't know why but somewhere around 4 or 5 years ago I just got "animed out". I'm in the same boat. I'd like to think I grew up, but I know that didn't happen. Maybe just a part of me grew up? The same part that doesn't thing Patrick Nagel (sp?) art is cool either maybe? | | Triangle DDM Skirmish Group | My Email | 45-ish trades and counting | Stuff for Trade * * * Show your brother some love and click here * * *

| Live action anime films seems to be a big trend now days. First Aeon Flux, then Neon Genesis Evangelion was announced, and now Star Blazers.
I guess I'm on the "most anime's are lame" boat, but there are a lot of them that are totally above and beyond the typical anime steriotypes.
I'm just waiting for a live action Cowboy Bebop. In my opinion, its the best anime ever made. | | Champion of the Revenant Knight of the Elf Duskblade Complete Trades: Oni, Kidkach, Melrune, callidusx3

Well said.
If Hollywood wants to toss money at a live-action anime, it certainly would be nice if they picked a *good* anime series (or at least avoid butchering a semi-decent series i.e. Aeon Flux).

Generally that holds true for anything, but after a while you begin to realize that it also applies to genres. A can say, for example, that I do not like Boy Bands without having to go on a case-by-case basis. The same holds true of anime. Like an genre it has its own conventions - both in terms of content and appearance - and I have grown to dislike it. A lot.
The time I don't spend giving every single anime a chance is time I can better spend on things I know already enjoy. And sure, I may be missing out on a few gems, but there are gems everywhere and I simply don't have the free time to wade through the Anime mud to find the rare ones when I can find a lot of other perfectly serviceable gems in otehr genres and media with far less effort.
In other words, I 'd rather spend my time enjoying things I like then wading through a lot of things I don't like to find something I might like. | | Champion of the Gelatinous Cube. Nemesis of Gnomes and Dinosaurs.

| I guess I am in the minority... I actually still like some Anime. Alot of it is crap, but there is still some made that is well done. Star Blazers is not in that list though. At least for me. It was one of my wife's favorite anime series when she was younger, but I saw it for the first time a while back and decided it would be better to stab myself in the eye with a chopstick rather than watch the whole series. Does anyone remember the movie "Fist of the Northstar?" First an anime and then made into a live action movie. Wow... now that was just plain bad. I don't even remember how the live action movie ended, I couldn't sit through it... and that was on cable. I don't see myself even paying a buck to rent it when it oh so quickly hits the dollar DVD section at the video store. A buck is a third of a gallon of gas, or a KFC snacker, or any item at the dollar store.

| Its not the art as much as the scripts. Princess Momonoke, Ghost in the Shell, Lodoss War. They all looked spectacular...It was the plots and scripts that stunk up the joint.
