Atari Announces Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics PSP Atari confirms development of an RPG title for Sony's handheld set in the classic fantasy universe... Posted: 17:01 on 02 May 2006 By: Jon Wilcox
Atari has today announced development of Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics for PSP, an RPG adhering to version 3.5 of the D&D ruleset from license owners Wizards of the Coast. The game, which is in development at Kuju Entertainment, sees players take control of a child caught in the middle of a feud between two dragons fighting for 'godhood'. Taking a party of up to six characters through a number of dungeons, the turn-based RPG title will see players form an allegiance towards one of the dragons depending on the dungeons faced and the decisions made through the course of Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics.
Players will also be able to work together co-operatively through the single-player campaign thanks to the Wi-Fi capabilities of the PSP, as well as a Deathmatch mode that sees players take their parties on a head-to-head battle through a number of arenas including Dungeon Bash.
As you'd expect from a Dungeons & Dragons game, players will be able to select a character from the numerous Base Classes available such as the Bard, Warrior, Monk, Paladin, and the Sorcerer. In addition five Prestige classes and two Psionic classes will be available in the game. Further support for the game is also promised by Atari in the form of downloadable maps.
"DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: Tactics is a superior example of how to use the PSP's full power for a really great handheld gaming experience", said Cyril Voiron, Marketing Director, Atari Europe. "Not only is it an outstanding single player RPG based upon the astonishing D+D universe, but it also offers gameplay extension through downloadable content, wireless cooperative game modes and customizable characters, which in turn shows Atari's commitment to providing players an experience beyond just the single player game".
"The PSP system has proven to be a very exciting platform to work with and an ideal choice to expand the world of DUNGEONS & DRAGONS within the interactive gaming space," said Jerry Chu, Senior Licensing Manager, Hasbro. "Making full use of the PSP system's unique capabilities, gamers will be granted an accurate D&D experience and story combined with a robust multiplayer system and the ability to extend gameplay thru downloadable content."
Set for release during 2007, we'll have more on Dungeons & Dragons: Tactics shortly...

Yeah, I really haven't liked any of Atari's D&D games. Neverwinter Nights was okay, but was lacking the party tactics that makes D&D fun.
I would love nothing more than a 3.5 Edition game with an updated Infinity engine (what the Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale and Planescape: Torment games ran) with the depth of the Baldur's Gate series.
There were rumors of a Baldur's Gate 3, and while I doubt they were anything more than rumors, I would love to see it made...if they could make it feel like Baldur's Gate. | | Champion of the Revenant Knight of the Elf Duskblade Complete Trades: Oni, Kidkach, Melrune, callidusx3

Temple had issues. It was the game I hated to love and loved to hate. I've heard a later patch fixed most of it. But god did that game make me angry. | | Im out- find me on Hordelings if you want to chat.

I completely understand that. One of the bugs was that you couldn't loot bodies outside of combat. That would make the game literally impossible to complete. But despite the glitches, it had a lot of good points. Being completely 3.5 official helped. If you haven't played a character with an INT penalty, do it for humor sake then delete the character! | | Completed trades: Gausse, Mazra, Pagansexy, Galerians, Lord_Raven, Drakkengi, Temujinn x2, Random Sasquatch, elf_ranger, Azuretide, Hung4treason, Griffrat (face2face), Nasamonkey Carpe Forum!

temple was a good game but very buggy. However the unofficial circle of eight patch/mod fixed alot of the issues and added some needed content. If you liked temple at all I'd recomend you check it out. | | Asystole is a stable heart rhythm

I'm not Fearfrost, but I was curious and Googled the circle of eight.

quote: THE CIRCLE OF EIGHT MOD-PACK
The Circle of Eight is a fan-based site that, among other things, has produced a modification for the Temple of Elemental Evil game. The changes brought into the game can be summarized as follows:
1) The mod brings in a large number of patches/fixes that have been overlooked by the official patches. In this regard, you can think of the mod-pack as filling in holes left behind by the original developers. You may consider the mod-pack as compatible with Atari’s latest patch release (which is currently 3).
2) For anybody who’s having trouble looting dead bodies or opening doors on account of having Service Pack 2 of Windows XP or Direct X 9.c, the pack provides a fix for this problem.
3) With this mod it is now possible to obtain a Masterwork version of any type of weapon, armor, or shield that was listed in the official Manual of ToEE. In order to avail of this, talk to Brother Smythe. He’ll be found at location #10 in the village of Hommlet. Ask to see his ‘Masterwork items’. He’ll then ask which category of items you would like to see; armor, weapons, or shields. It's simply a matter of picking one and then viewing the inventory.
The real significance of this is that you can pretty much acquire a masterwork kind of any item listed in the official manual, and then shape it into a magical item according to your specifications. For this, at least one of your characters will need the Craft Magic Arms and Armor feat. For more information on how to use this feat, follow this link.
4) The mod-pack makes additions to the items that can be created through the Craft Wondrous Items feat. The list of new items is as follows:
Bag of Tricks - Prerequisites: Caster Level 5, able to cast Summon Nature’s Ally III - Summons an animal to assist the user
Circlet of Blasting, Minor - Prerequisites: Caster Level 6, able to cast Searing Light - Casts Searing Light once a day
Cloak of Arachnida - Prerequisites: Caster Level 6, able to cast Web - Immune to entrapment by the Web spell, able to move at half-speed through a Web effect, able to cast Web once per day
Hands of Death - Prerequisites: Caster level 3, able to cast Inflict Light Wounds - Casts Inflict Light Wounds once per day
Hands of Electricity - Prerequisites: Caster level 3, able to cast Shocking Grasp - Casts Shocking Grasp once per day
Hands of Fire - Prerequisites: Caster level 3, able to cast Burning Hands - Casts Burning Hands once per day
Hands of Life - Prerequisites: Caster level 3, able to cast Cure Light Wounds - Casts Cure Light Wounds once per day
Deep Red Ioun Stone - Prerequisite: Caster level 10 - +2 bonus to Dexterity
Dusty Rose Ioun Stone - Prerequisite: Caster level 10 - +1 insight bonus to Armor Class, will stack with body armor
Incandescent Blue Ioun Stone - Prerequisite: Caster level 10 - +2 bonus to Wisdom
Pale Blue Ioun Stone - Prerequisite: Caster level 10 - +2 bonus to Strength
Pink Ioun Stone - Prerequisite: Caster level 10 - +2 bonus to Constitution
Pink and Green Ioun Stone - Prerequisite: Caster level 10 - +2 bonus to Charisma
Scarlet and Blue Ioun Stone - Prerequisite: Caster level 10 - +2 bonus to Intelligence
5) The original pen and paper module upon which ToEE is based included a brothel, and minor quests associated with that brothel, in the village of Nulb. Shortly before release, Atari decided to axe the brothel from the game in order to avoid a “Mature rating” upon release. The mod-pack now restores that brothel.

| | I wish I had known about this sooner. Now that I'm so close to finishing the game, I think I'll finish the old game before installing the patch. Some of these patches are really significant. I wish I had the masterwork patch on my pre-existing game, but it says it won't update old games. | Oh man! Another good-looking D&D game that I can't play. I know Nintendo likes to focus on younger children but for once, can't there be a single game like this for the Gamecube or am I doomed to never play anything D&D because I refuse to run any farther on the consumer treadmill? To me, I only truly like playing 5 games:
1) Reign of Fire: This game is quite possibly the only good game based on a movie. But then again, I really like dragons, otherwise I would not have beaten the entire game 187 times and I'm still not bored with it.
2) Super Smash Brothers: Melee: Player's Choice(Gamer's Choice?) for once actually did it for me. I am surprisingly impressed.
3) Soul Caliber 2: Out of all the fighter games of this format this out there, this is by far the best. Astaroth rules!(All but 4 opponents are defeated from having beat the entire game twice.)
4) Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance: Such a close one to Soul Caliber it is ridiculous. Scorpion rules!(Everyone says to unlock Rayden before going against the giant tub of lard with a flail, I think it was. I can't remember what the weapon was. But I used Scorpion right of the bat and button-mashed, doing a lot of his signature move and flaming back-flip kicks, and won right away.)
5) Donkey Konga: Slightly inconvenient for holding(I have to fold my legs into the standard "butterfly" shape while sitting on my bed and cram the drums in the open space.) but I admit it is fun to play. I hold a record over my sister for having got all perfects on the Turkish March on Gorilla mode. It took eight months but I did it.
So yeah. That is the list of what I personally consider to be the only worthwhile games on Gamecube and all of them are fairly old. Why is it that games like D&D are not incorporated into gaming systems like the Gamecube? Are they afraid they won't get enough customers? Is it purely the already mentioned "we focus on younger children" view? If someone can explain this to me, it would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, ignore this rant and continue torturing the poor soul who'll never play virtual D&D.[:p]
But the PSP game looks good and I might have an excuse to buy the console and game if nothing good surfaces in the Gamecube department. So, in other words, I'll be going against my preferences when it all comes out. Dang it all. | | Champion of the Prismatic Golem
