| I'm going to buy a gaming table. It can't be more than about 5 feet wide by 8 feet long or so.
What shape do you all play on?
I want to be able to skirmish, role play, leave minis on it that I'm painting.... | | Fastest dropping DCI ranking on record! Champion of Juiblex

| | Truthfully I play on my kitchen table. The best table I ever had though was just a plywood bedboard that I could sit on top of another table or even saw horses. That way when not in use it could be put up. | | Asystole is a stable heart rhythm | |

| I think the best option for you is to build your own. Home improvement stores sell plywood in varying thickness of 4 ft by 8 ft boards. This sheet along with and three two inch by four inch by 96 inch (2x4s) and two 4x4x8 along with some wood screws and you are set to build your own table. As far as tools you need a drill (with drivers/bits) and a skill saw.
This is what I used for my gaming table and It works great..... | | Ambassador of FUN!!!

| I found this pic when I did a google image search. I plan to incorporate this idea into my table design when I get it built.

| I plan to build a table. It has been in the planning phase for quite some time due to space constraints in my current abode, but it will be built sometime in the next year. It has given me a few ideas that I'll pass along:
The ideal table incorporates the following features:
* Each player has room in front of them to keep their player sheet, their dice, their food, etc...
* Each player will be able to reach beyond their 'work space' and reach far enough into the 'map' area to move their figure without too much straining.
* There is a work space big enough for the DM to have all of his stuff at the ready.
No stock table will do all of that. However, you can get close.
I recommend a round table (to keep people as close as possible to the center of the board with a diameter of 5 to 6 feet. I recommend the DM supplement the table with two additional storage areas that he can place around himself to hold his extra books, figures, etc... | | Champion of Meepo _*_ Myztek on the Wizards Boards. _*_ (2206 DDM on 03/06/06) Please note: The use of the indicates an attempt at humor ... often a bad attempt. | We play on my coffee table, but I plop down one of the portable folding poker table tops. It gives us more room for maps, figures, pencils and whatnot as well as giving everyone a plce to put their dice and drinks. It even folds in half, very flat, for easy storage.

The beauty of this one is, as I said, that it is just a table top. There are no legs or anything. You open it out and plop it down on top of another table and when you're done you just fold it up and stick it behind the couch. The side shown is for poker (or is it blackjack?), the other side is just plain green felt.
It actually works great for skirmish. The maps fit perfectly and there is plenty of room around the sides. When you are stuck for available space like we are this kind of thing is a godsend. | | Champion of the Gelatinous Cube. Nemesis of Gnomes and Dinosaurs.
