| I was just reading something today that you need a special cable to connect the new DVD players to a HDTV and the older HDTV's don't have that connection on it, so you'ld be force to buy one if you want the greatest picture you can get. Personally, I'ld be happy if they'ld just drive down the cost of the HDTV so I can get one (DPL 60 inches [:D] ) . I doubt that I am going to get either player anytime in the near future. I mainly upgraded to DVD just so I could have something that didn't degrade everytime I watched it.
I'll get a nextgen player when they are below the 100 price mark, which is going to be a few years down the road. I also look at the DVD players on the computers and look at the software and have to laugh that there are still a lot of things that come out on CDs instead of DVD's when it's been around so long. | | Hello Boys, I'm Back Vindicated Champion of the Bat (not pretty, but it still counts)

Less than $100? So, your skipping them then? Has the PS2 or original XBox ever retailed for $100?
I don't know if Blue ray or HD will win, but I too hope that they will collectivley reduce the price of HD TV's. I really want a 360, but there isn't any point till I have an HD TV, and tehy are just to damned expensive still.

There really isn't any point to buying an Xbox 360 until more games (that are worth $60 a crack) are released. Thus far, every 360 I've seen or used myself has spent 90% of its existence running Halo 2 and the other 10% running DOA4.
HD TVs aren't THAT expensive. It depends on what you think you have to have. I have a 32" widescreen LCD (HD resolution) and it cost around $900. Granted, $900 is a lot to spend, but my 27" CRT 10 years ago (roughly) cost ~$600. That $300 difference isn't huge.
If you have to have a 60 inch DLP, well, good luck scoring that for less than a grand any time soon [:D] | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? Champion of Dwarven Thunderlashers Knight of the Large Dire Chicken Have/Want List Trade References

Well, I have to say, I've seen PLENTY of games for the 360 that spark my interest. The WWII first person shooters in particular look great.
As for the T.V.'s, I bought my last 36+ inch CRT T.v. for less than $400. To obtain the same size HDTV would require at least a 40 inch LCD, those aren't cheap... $2000 last time I looked. No rear projection for me thanks!

| DLP rear projection is very nice to look at Pat, plus they cost about half what a flat panel does. Plus they are not that big any more if thats the concer. My 46" Widescreen DLP takes up less space depth wise than my 27" CRT. The picture is very nice for regular TV viewing, better than the Plasmas and LCDs. And the HD is awesome.
You also have to worry about burn in with the plasmas, and possibly the LCDs too, I can't remember.
As for the gaming question, I tried out a 360 for a week, and couldn't find enough games to make it worth the money but I'll probably try again when the price drops. I doubt I will buy a PS3. Wii is a possibility.
I won't buy a HD dvd player untill someone comes out with a Hybrid that play both types of them, and the price comes down to around 100.
I'm not very happy about all the DRM they are including in them either or the fact that you have to use HDMI instead of component to get the best resolution out of them. | | Champion of Champions (for all races! even Gnomes ) Reference Thread Winnipeg Gryphon Cavalry Forums

I don't have a PS2, but I have been watching it, they just did a price drop of $20 so I wouldn't be surprised if they did a price drop of $30 when the PS3 comes out. It would put them at $99. My son would love to have one and my step daughters would get a chance to play the gamecube more ofter lol.
I am hoping the HD's will have a price drop here in the next year or 2, I'll looking to be able to get a 60" for around $2000, right now you're looking around the mid 3's for one. | | Hello Boys, I'm Back Vindicated Champion of the Bat (not pretty, but it still counts)

| Hmmm... I thought burn in was the issue with Projection... maybe the "D" part of that new tech solves it. I don't think burn in is an issue with LCD or Plasma... Needless to say, I haven't finished my research, but my initial look said TOO MUCH!
I think that the current back of HD DVD players will be backward compatible (Same kind of laser), but obviously, they'll be a bit pricey!

Amen to that. My father in law bought a 50 inch rear projection HDTV and it sucks by miles in comparison to my 32 LCD. I bought my Toshiba on Dec 31st 2004 and now they are way cheaper...for the same price I could buy a 40+ now [B)] I love technology but I hate technology's devaluation rate [)] | | Trades >> Completed: 49 | Bad: Ø | Pending: 0 | Trade & talk Live on IRC! I didn't think any of them had burn in problems until my sister got a Plasma, the manual tells you not to run the tv in normal 4:3 mode or you risk buring in the black bars on the sides, which leaves me wondering why they would even give you the option.
I meant that I want a player that will play both the new HD disks, HD-DVD and Bluray, they should all play older DVDs and CDs. | | Champion of Champions (for all races! even Gnomes ) Reference Thread Winnipeg Gryphon Cavalry Forums
