| Wow, I'm old, and have lived close to Wisconsin (the old Gen Con site) forever, but I've never been. I'm rectifying that error this August.
Any advice on events, hotels, fun stuff....would be appreciated.
I am registered for the maxminis draft, and have no need to roleplay at a con....so....your thoughts? I'll be driving so I can buy lots of stuff... | | Fastest dropping DCI ranking on record! Champion of Juiblex

| Well, there is more than enough DDM to keep you busy the entire weekend if that is your desire. Also, there are plenty of board games that you can get in on. They even have a Scrabble tournaments. You do owe it to yourself to spend at least a few hours in the dealer's room shopping and browsing all the neat stuff they have.
We are staying at the Embassy Suites (which is a great, great place) but I am fairly certain its filled up now, but you can check the Gen Con forums to find people who need to unload their rooms. As it is though, you should try to get a room ASAP.
I am also going to try to get together a post-Championship dinner on Saturday, for everyone who wants to hang out with fellow maxminis people. We sort of had one last year, and had a reasonable enough turn out. Actually we had so many people I didn't get a chance to socialize with everyone. [:(]
So what do you want to do there? | | I am not gone.

| Well then you should follow Jesse Dean's Plan for Gen Con.
1) Play in a tournament EVERY DAY! (I will be playing Thursday's constructed, Friday's Championship, Saturday's Epic, and Sunday's Epic Finals or Limited Qualifier) 2) Go to the Maxminis Draft! (Unless you are in the finals of another tournament) 3) Hit the dealers room in your free time! (This solves the Find a way to buy a lot of stuff and Get Free stuff plans) 4) Check out Indianpolis's numerous alcohal-related establishments! (Many of them have their own breweries!) 5) Come to doubtofbuddha's Gen Con Post-Champion Dinner! (Details pendings.) | | I am not gone.

Try to convience Scott to go with you. He needs it bad.[:0] | | They just don't know what's good in life...Conan, tell them what is good in life. To rip the boosters. To count the minis spilled out before you, and to hear the indifference of the women...

| I'll probably try to stay for free at a Country Inns and Suites (there are three within 10 miles).
At that price, it is hard to justify staying somewhere I need to pay. Maybe Scott will go if the hotel is cheap/free (I might need to charge him a beverage or two).

We hit the Ram for dinner one night and we had about 12 of us there... and we were round two. Some people got there early and were leaving as others of us just got there. It was great. Jesse, Pat, and I got there late if I remember correctly. | My first GenCon was 2 years ago, I planning (and keeping my fingers crossed) to not miss it again.
Some things to think about:
Have a plan. PREREGISTER, and have everything sent to you home address. Plan on more than a few hours in the Dealers hall. If you like games, you'll be able to spend 2 full days in there easy. Bring good, comfortable shoes Bring a good backpack Don't overstuff said backpack. Bring only what you need with you from the car/hotel. PREREGISTER Bring your own snacks. Food at the Con is expensive. You can run over to the mall and get cheap chinese/subway/mcdonalds, etc. but if your hungry between rounds, your looking at $5.00 for a slice of pizza, or you can chow down a couple fo energy bars that you brought with you for $1.50. Include aspring/advil and antacid in your backpack (Yes, with you, not at the hotel...) Get 3 solid good nights of sleep during the 3 night prior to departure for the Con. You'll be sleep deprived while your there. If you see something you really want in the Hall, buy it when you see it. Hot items will sell fast, and there is no guarantee that they will be there on Sunday. Hit the DDM Seminar if you can PREREGISTER MaxMini's Draft Chat with Ian, he's a cool cat Bring a Camera Bring a friend Bring a prize for the MaxMini's Draft Check out the Auction
HAVE FUN
Pat E
p.s. preregister, seriously, and make damn sure your tickets go to your house. You DON'T want to spend your first 4 hours of the Con waiting in line for your badge!

So offically my schedule is now. Thursday: DDM seminar, RPGA Friday: Nats, Post Nats DoubtofBuddha dinner. Saturday: True Dungeon, Constructed, Maxminis Sunday: Sealed Qual (or much less likely top 8)
In between league, roam the floor etc. | | Im out- find me on Hordelings if you want to chat.

Don't know if you can really call it advice, but I'm trying a variety of stuff this year.
Some DDM, a couple boardgames (Descent and Doom), A few seminars, True Dungeon, and I'll also spend much time in the exhibition hall demoing new games and (hopefully) winning stuff from WotC. [:D] | | WotC - making me wish more and more every day for a return to the TSR days. :( I fought the snark and the snark won. I'm baaaaaaaaaaack!

I second all of these. Your backpack becomes a noose on you and then you load it with free crap to boot.
He mentioned the 5 dollar pizza but not the 3 dollar sodas. Waterbottle is highly suggested.
Auction rocks. I got GoL for 12 bucks last year and two angelfire for 12bucks, which I then sold for 20 to someone for the maxminis draft. A key thing on the auction is the side room, the stuff that doesn't sell gets sideroomed and just put at a cheap price. I got a boardgame I had been looking for since I was a kid there for 2 bucks.
And finally screw waiting in line. | | Im out- find me on Hordelings if you want to chat.

| You most assuredly want to bring some snacks and a water bottle. If you forget a water bottle (like I did last year) buy a bottle of soda and save the bottle. Con food is so expensive.
I know that my bag last year sucked, so make sur eit is comfortable what ever you use. You will get lots of free stuff so leave plenty of room in your suitcase as well. If you travel light you can always hit a place to mail the stuff back to your house on Saturday morning, leaving you more room for free stuff Sunday. | | Sean Banks Champion of Elementals Official Organizer Gen Con 05 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 06 maxminis Event | Gen Con 06 maxminis Event | Winterfantasy 07 Community Event

That sound like a great plan! May I copy it?
1) Play in DDM tournaments every day until an ungodly hour at night. 2) Play in Maxmini's DDM draft tournament. 3) Hit dealers room for goodies. 4) Check out Indy. 5) Go to doubtofbuddha's Championship Victory party / dinner. [)]
This will be my 1st GenCon of which I have wanted to attend for many many years. So I am greatly looking forward to a grand time gaming and meeting all of the Maxmini's folks that also attend.
