| What would be a good plot for a new D&D movie?
Also, who is in it and who directs it?
My idea:
Plot: Group of Dragonslayers is tested by greed and power. The Dragonslayer leader is old and retiring, leaving his two best henchmen to run the operation. One is gung-ho, pro-human, anti-dragon, the other is more moralistic and independent. The slayers have to choose alliances as Good dragons begin to meddle in human affairs. Dungeon delves ensue.
Arnold Schwarzenegger as retired Dragonslayer Vincent D'Onofrio as independent Dragonslayer Angie Harmon as gung-ho Dragonslayer Tricky as the Rogue
Directed by David Fincher or Jean-Pierre Jeunet

| Drizzt movie. New adventure. Ray Park would do the stunt work/sword fighting for Drizzt.

| Is it just me or would Stuart Townsend be the perfect Drizzt? I think hes so perfect for the role that I scoff at any other suggestion! :)
Unfortunatly after the first 2 being kinda....umm.....doo-doo....The future of D&D movies will all be Sci-Fi channel and direct-to-video films.
Your idea of dragon slayers having to deal with the concept of whether to slay good dragons might be cool..but I doubt the Governator would sign up for a low-budget fantacy flik.
The only way to get another WotC D&D offical movie onto the big screen would be to have it NOT have "D&D" in the title. A Forgotten Realms or Eberron movie would be cool.
I think the Icewind Dale Trilogy would be awsome if done with a LotR/Narnia budget. | | Champion of the Skulk Vindicated Champion of the Twig Blight

If an Ebberon movie gets made, most uninformed people wouldn't recognize it as D&D. [V] Halfling on dinosaurs? Magic trains? Robots(warfoged)? [:(] Now a FR movie would be cool. I would suggest the Avatar trilogy. | | Completed trades: Gausse, Mazra, Pagansexy, Galerians, Lord_Raven, Drakkengi, Temujinn x2, Random Sasquatch, elf_ranger, Azuretide, Hung4treason, Griffrat (face2face), Nasamonkey Carpe Forum!

| | how about a D&d movie that takes place mostly in a dungeon?? with classic monsters such as goblins/kobolds a dragon . id settle for 1st ed where we have a dwarf/elf/wizard/fighter party. or even take all the monsters and icons from the boxed game and make a movie around that. Drizzt would be too cool so it wil never happen. a movie based on the dragonlance trilogy would make millions but the rights re already tied up and last i heard they were still in the begining stages. | | The ROCK layeth the smacketh down. | I would like to see a Forgotten Realms, or Dragonlance Movie. With the quality of the CGI now, I'm actually glad they waited. Somehow, I think the Dragonlance one would make more money.
If there is one in the works, that is awesome news. They need something to fill the hole that LOTR left. Narnia rode that wave, and now I think that Dragonlance or the Forgotten Realms can too.
It needs to have a Big budget though, like the LOTR films did. | | Champion of ... | Too be honest I'm amazed that they haven't came up with a Drizzt movie yet. Icewind Dale would make a great movie...but then everyone would be yelling that the Balor (Errtu..?) was too close too LOTR. | | Champion of the Peryton Vindicated Champion : Pit Fiend, Devourer DW: Duergar Priest RPG Only!!!! | Well of course. The Balor is based on the Balrog. Treants were called Ettins in early versions of the game--D&D is practically a game version of Lord of the Rings.
I think the Eberron or Drizzt ideas are great--it would make the stories more uniquely D&D.
I think that the thing that can separate D&D movie storylines from other fantasy movies is the absolutely weird possibilities that are out there. Alternate planes of existence, underground passages, wormholes, portals, "blasphemous geometries," etc.
PG13 might also be something to look into. Let's get some more gore and crazy evil monsters out there. I want to see what it looks like when a medium-sized human kills an aboleth. I know we as players and DMs have imagined it for years, and explained how our characters have managed to defeat colossal dragons and worms--let's see it!
So who would be in these movies? Who is your hero? Also, who is going to direct these movies? | | Alfred O. Cloutier -Trading History - BLAULB!

| username: your pics are mostly dead. Ray would be awesome for the stunts, but he cannot act worth a damn and his voice is whimpy.
Jason Isaacs is a cool choice but a bit too old to be believable as artemis.
My first choice for Wulfgar was the first huge dude that got killed by Achiles in Troy, the one he does the jump move on...that dude looked the part...can he act?...probably worse than Tyler hence he got killed in 10 seconds and all he said was *grunt*. Park would do stunts. Jason Isaacs is the PERFECT age for Entreri. He is described as getting older, so a 30s-40s man would be good. Plus they can do make-up to make him look younger if need be. | The Plot of D&D movies would be crap. It's been proven. Twice, in fact [xx(]
An ideal film from a marketing standpoint is to use one of the licensed worlds (Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Eberron). While a cross-product promotion of an Eberron film would be a good idea (if well implemented), a big-screen version of the Icewind Dale trilogy or the War of the Lance would bring in bigger box office returns (so long as they don't allow the writers for the first two D&D films anywhere NEAR the production).
Bring on War of the Lance. Bring on writers who actually went to college (and, while there, learned how to write well). | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? Champion of Dwarven Thunderlashers Knight of the Large Dire Chicken Have/Want List Trade References

a newly formed team enters the world series of team gladiator matches. these teams consist of everything from goblin miners to huge dragons.

| Darkwalker on Moonshae. Much less expensive to make than Dragonlance, Celtic (so not too foreign to the masses), a cool beast, pretty maiden, shide type elves....
My first preference is actually Crystal Shard, as it is most D&D play like.
Dragonlance is too long (while shorter than LoTR, there is less non-action sequencing, and many, many people are familiar enough with LoTR that you can skip some parts, not so much in DL). | | Fastest dropping DCI ranking on record! Champion of Juiblex

| Dragonlance would actually be perfect for a trilogy and it has plenty of characters to get excited about. The director would have to be top notch. Why not get Peter Jackson, he's proven. On the actor side of things, stay away from all the top tier money makers. IMO they ruin action/adventure movies especially the younger ones (though I could see a Crowe, Bana, Bloom, Phoenix, Jackman or Depp in some parts). The old timers are perfect (Connery, Stewart, McKellen, etc). Lets get some no names or lesser known actors that are actually good actors and look the part (heh probably mostly Brits and Aussies [:)]). I definitely don't want a Tom Cruise or a Pitt/Jolie ruining the film! Pretty much the same thing goes for actresses. I'd be happy with cast members from movies like Narnia, LOTR, Gladiator, etc.
On the other hand, a nice dark movie like War of the Spider Queen would be nice. Six books, plenty of storyline and action, and very attractive ladies [:)] (and men I guess, lol). Sean Connery as Gromph Baenre and Tilda Swinton as either Triel or Quenthel Baenre! It would definitely have to be PG-13, anything higher than that would make much less money. A Drizzt movie would be nice too, but stay away from those top tier actors again! | | Champion of the Lamia www.tygrhobbes.com

| | Lets keep Tim Burton and the whole goth thing away from the War of the Spider Queen [:)]. It's not that I don't like it, it's just not a good vision of "the drow". I picture Gromph as an older, fatter, grizzled drow. Michael Wincott would be a good drow, but more of a Jarlaxle or Valas rogue type. But then Jarlaxle would be a great role for Depp (capt. jack sparrow drow [:)]) | | Champion of the Lamia www.tygrhobbes.com | |

| | I was thinking of something set in FR during the time of troubles would be cool. You could have Drizzt or not.
