| Agreed. I was never a big Haley fan to begin with. But I've now gone from indifferent to annoyed.
At least Roy's been getting some good character development.
But I feel bad for the fans of Belkar, Durkon, and V. | |

| I'm sorry it's annoying you all, but I've really enjoyed the last several days worth (particularly the blah blah blah one). It's a very good demonstration of how much you can feel for a stick figure, and has been done very well. (And you have dwarf beer jokes to laugh at).

| He basically called people idiots for sending him e-mails with translated Haleyspeak (after the first such comic).
He also lashed out at people for speculating about the future plots (like he has to read the speculations) for supposedly "spoiling" the plots and forcing him to change them.
Finally, every time anybody even remotely tries to go for some constructive criticism, he responds with "you are in a minority" comment and then gets a thousand ego-boosting posts from his resident sycophants.
In the end, OotS is simply not as funny or clever now as it was when it first started. Yes, there are occasionally some very clever and funny strips, but they are an exception. Rich is a big star now, drawing for Dragon and all, and I'm not sure he really has that much time to devote to the weekly comic. I am glad he went back to a 2/week schedule.
I recently bought On the Origin of PCs and there is a tangible difference between that book and the present strips. The book wasn't even supposed to be that funny, but I ended up laughing at it far more than at the recent strips. | |

| I whole heartedly agree with both the sycophant and loss of quality comments.
I stopped even looking at the forums due to the "jock riding" going on. Heaven forbid you make a comment that could be construed as criticism, constructive or other. It brings out the rabid fanatics going for the throat and groin.
It's gotten to the point where he only updates when he feels like it, so I've even stopped checking it regularly. | |

I am a Webcomic Junkie. And a big thing that can make or break a comic is fan support, they and they alone keep your comic in 'business' Acting like an Elitist Prick towards your fanbase is not a way to insure the sucess of what you do.
And it always seems that once a webcomic goes 'industry' the artist seems to lose touch with that fact since they are now getting paid to draw. They lose their passion for their work and it ends up becoming a job, I've seen it happen far too many times in webcomicdom.
I like webcomics much more when it's the fans that determine the revenue. You tend to get comics that spills over with the artist's heart and soul. | |

| I agree that there is a very strange dynamic between Rich and the fan base. I don't frequent those message boards as the feeling is just strange, this is just me. So, I will continue to lurk there and be seen here....
As to the strip there are some funny things but it seems to have been draggin lately. Dunno, if this is from the infrequent updates, the influnce of fame, the encroachment of the "industry" or someother life episode.
I still read the strip and look forward to it coming out as there are some really nice smiles and lol type momonets when I am at work where I feel strangely strange...[:D]
I hope something happens soon to bring this strip back to the "can't wait to read it...." feeling. | |
