And ironically (maybe not so ironically, but sad nonetheless) Van Halen was more successful with Sammy than they ever were with Dave. [:D]
I know Roth is a bit of a jerk, but Van Hagar just doesn't cut it in my book.

Its true... I agree. Diamond Dave turned into Dumpster Dave.

I suppose it's not that easy to give a definition of new wave... It was more an evolution of punk (which began in 1976 IIRC and was pretty much dead in 1979 IMO). For me (and many many others in Europe), "new wave" really began in 1983 and was :
- U2 (new years day. As soon as we (me and all my mates) heard this song, we KNEW it was THE MUSIC of our generation)
- Simple Minds (My fave ever)
- The Cure
- Depeche Mode (from their some great reward album - the 3 previous albums are synth pop and sound very different)
- And many related groups (but far less successful than these 4) : Echo and the bunnymen, Killing joke, Sisters of mercy, Big country, The Alarm, Psychedelic furs and others...

80's music was fantastic !!!! Of course there were crap bands like in any other decade, but overall it was GREAT, and doubtlessly the most creative decade ever. I still listen to it all the time (the 90's didn't have so many good bands)

@Robby : no Kim Wilde on your playlist ? One of the finest 80's pop IMO.

Meh, 80's music is a pain for me. I listened to hardcore back in the day. If any would know Jerry's Kids (Boston) The Dead Kennedys, MDC, DRI (SF), Black Flag, Wasted Youth, Circle Jerks (LA) + many more.
I listen to a bunch of stuff I hated back in the day, it only took me a decade or 2 to like it.
Hardcore will live on, hence it is My War.

I keep asking myself why I don't own anything by The Cure. I love that music.

I'd have to agree with that. Boys Don't Cry has always been a great album which I have, great songs and this is before they went totally-goth.
Another album that I just bought from iTunes is The Basics(or The Essentials, anyway it's the first set). It has a pretty decent cross section of their more known songs.
I don't think that Robert Smith has really been given due credit for his songwriting though.

In the US, possibly. I don't know.
But in Europe he got a ton of credit...
My faves albums are Pornography, The head on the door and Disintegration.

I like listening to some of their stuff, it's pretty hard for me to listen to a whole CD of theirs though....  Kinda like when I listen to Sisters of Mercy, four songs in and I start feeling depressed.

Shirley you jest? There is a Greatest Hits Madonna CD in the Krush household, it whereabouts unknown and I don't claim ownership.

Micheal Jackson IMO, a child molester. I never liked his music, and now I dislike(hate is extreme) the freak even more.

Nope. While you were dancin', I was headbangin'

Although, after seeing Madonna in her Material Girl video, I had a major crush on her. I've always thought she never looked hotter than in that video. Never liked her music though. Ugh!

My brother and I had a very glittery record by Jackson, some kind of greatest hits or what not.   I've always liked Maddonna, though I'm not terribly fond of her newer stuff.

The 80s were a fine time thanks to the dawn of heavy metal age. Iron Maiden and Judas Priest rocked out pretty hard. Metallica and Megadeth didn't suck back then. Good times. Good times...

Ouch ! You're confused (too much beer ? )
A-Ha's singer is Morten Harket (yes, they still exist IIRC).
Paul Young isn't related to A-Ha, and yes, he had quite a few hits in Europe. Great voice, one of the best.
And BTW A-Ha had many hits in Europe... Their first three albums sold tons and tons.

Hey, Wham weren't that bad ! (OK Andrew Ridgely was not the finest guitar player ever ). George Michael has such an amazing voice. The first album was quite of a joke, although there were some fun songs. The second album and the third had some good songs.

I would say it was more like; Pilot to co-pilot, going down in flames. But a great album came out in '87, that imo started out as slow ride going nowhere that turned into "a in your face rock machine". Appetite For Destruction ala Guns -n- Roses. Granted the ride didn't last as long as we hoped.
3 yrs later an "unknown" band out of Texas appeared....some band called Pantera  and the Cowboys From Hell were born.
Ah, noise in my ears that cause me to not concentrate.

Blame Axel Rose for that. GnR could have been one of the biggest bands ever, but he f-ed it all up.

Blame Axel Rose for that. GnR could have been one of the biggest bands ever, but he f-ed it all up.

Yeah I agree, aren't they supposed to have some new album coming out? Some rumour I heard.

80s had some great metal up till about 87 then it slowly went downhill.

A new album has been rumored for years now. Again, blame Axel.
