It is by the grace of God that I received Christ, having known the truth, I had no choice than to do what is lawful and just in the sight of God for eternal life and in the sight of man for witness of God & His Mercies and glory upon my life.
I am Mrs.Sarah Wilson, the wife of Mr Robert Wilson, my husband worked with the Chevron/Texaco in Kenya for twenty years before he died in the year 2003.We were married for ten years without a child. My Husband died after a brief illness that lasted for only four days. Before his death we both got born-again and dedicated christians. Since his death I decided not to re-marry or get a child outside my matrimonial home which the Bible is strongly against.When my late husband was alive he deposited the sum of US$16.5 Million.(Sixteen Million Five Hundred Thousand U.S.Dollars) with a Bank in Europe.
Presently, this money is still with the Bank and the management just wrote me as the beneficiary that our account has been DORMANT and if I, as the beneficairy of the funds, do not re-activate the account; the funds will be CONFISCATED or I rather issue a letter of authorization to somebody to receive it on my behalf (note that you need to activate this account) as I can not come over. Presently, I'm in a hospital in Senegal where I have been undergoing treatment for esophageal cancer. I have since lost my ability to talk and my doctors have told me that I have only a few weeks to live. It is my last wish to see this money distributed to charity organizations anywhere in the World. Because relatives and friends have plundered so much of my wealth since my illness, I cannot live with the agony of entrusting this huge responsibility to any of them. Please, I beg you in the name of God to help me Stand-in as the beneficiary and collect the Funds from the Bank.
I want a person that is God-fearing who will use this money to fund churches, orphanages and widows propagating the word of God and to ensure that the house of God is maintained. The Bible made us to understand that blessed is the hand that giveth. I took this decision because I don't have any child that will inherit this money and my husband's relatives are not Christians and I don't want my husband's hard earned money to be misused by unbelievers. I don't want a situation where this money will be used in an ungodly manner. Hence the reason for taking this bold decision.I am not afraid of death since I know where I am going to. I know that I am going to be in the bosom of the Lord. {Exodus14 VS14}says that the lord will fight my case and I shall hold my peace. I don't need any telephone communication in this regard because of my soundless voice and presence of my husband's relatives around me always.I don't want them to know about this development.

I received the same e-mail and reported it in the Forum Discussion forum.
I would imagine that the spammer sent off to as many people as possible through the e-mail system of the boards. All automated, of course.

really in this day and age who falls for the old nigerian money scam. I would think by this time it has become common knowledge and nobody would fall for it.

So not only don't send money - don't be a big enough knucklehead to travel over to Africa to pick up Jesus' money.

| I know of at least one highly compensated and otherwise intelligent professional that fell for a similar scam. You'd be surpised by who can fall for things like this...
Regardless, the best thing you can do to stop emails like this is to donate heavily to the ASF (Anti-Span Foundation). If they are successful in their efforts, all spam will be gone by the end of the year. All you need to do is mail me a check for as much as you can spare... [)] | |

Depending on how elaborate the scam is, it could be both. In its less malignant, but still reprehensible form, this is "Advance Fee Fraud" but can blossom into other crimes entirely. Advance Fee Fraud is where someone claims that certain assets are frozen, held, unavailable, or up for grabs...but only if someone provides the funds to get things in motion. There's "paperwork" that has to be financed, etc. Essentially, someone has to pony up a fee up front (i.e. "In Advance") to get the money freed.
Of course, no matter how much money you put in, there's always going to be one more complication. There is no money to be had, only to be lost. The particularly bold scammers may ask you to provide your bank account number and similar info so they can just tap into your account and empty it directly, instead of stringing you along. Since they're in a far away nation, good luck getting your cash back.
Of course, the above scenario begs two questions. One: Why couldn't they use their own money to fund this? Surely it wouldn't be hard to put up their own cash and keep ALL of the reward. They could sell stuff if necessary to raise the cash. Two: Couldn't the frozen assets be used in this fashion? It would stand to reason that some proceedure for this must exist for people with a direct link to said assets.
But the money's not all you risk. In its more malicious form, once they've milked you to the point where you're no longer willing to fund the 'paperwork', they change their tune. Suddenly things are coming along just fine, and they invite you to fly into Far Away Nation X/Y/Z to finalize the last bits of the proceedings that will supposedly let you get your share of the cash.
What happens when you arrive? Well, from what I understand...they abduct you. You might've caught on to their scheme, but they can always ransom you back to your family and friends for a lot of money. Maybe even kill you out of convenience once they have the cash, since really, who's going to stop them? Your associates would be half a world away.
Advance Fee Fraud is indeed just that; always fraud, always a sham. So what do you do if you run into Advance Fee scammers? Well first, you shout "Objection!" Then you slam your hands on the defense desk and explain to the judge why there can't possibly be any money to be had by participating in this scheme. Then you hop onto a nearby Pegasus* and get outta there!
*: Or you can let the Pegasus hoof-stomp the scammers to death. Though fighting isn't something Pegasi enjoy, they do understand the need to stop evil plots. | |

I guess once a person is reported for spamming their account can be blocked but that is about it. | |
