| Wrestling is a fantasy land with over the top superheroes that settle every thing with violence. There are simplistic plots of good vs. evil and everything older then a year is forgotten plot wise.

From what I know, the owners of the SciFi channel have some sort of ties to the owners of WWE and thus Wrestling on SciFi. Plus, with WWE spinning off this new "brand" of wrestling, ECW, by putting it on SciFi they are targeting the young male audience that watches that channel to try and interest them in this new bradn of wrestling.
And regreatable, I admit to being a fan of pro wrestling for many many years (yes they hooked me and reeled me in). [:0] Although I do not thgink putting it on the SciFi channel is a great idea. [V]
And what could be a thread all its own, today's wrestling is just way too much 'entertainment' for me and not enough wrestling. [:(!]

I have to agree with you there. I have not seen a product that I have been truly happy with since the days of the UWF.
I still watch because I have watched for 26 years (since i was 9. I find latly you have to wade in muck for months to see that one special match that makes it worthwhile.
How old school am I on wrestling.
I would love to see them go back to 1 hour shows.
Get rid of the T & A show. I can get porn for that.
I want a return of jobber matches.

I watched AWA, USWA, Mid-south, Stampede, UWF and the NWA.

I saw Hogan win the title the first time.
I remember wrestling before the Undertaker, Kevin Nash, Sting, Luger, Austin, Rock, Scott Hall.

Sci-Fi is part of the Mega-Conglomerate that owns the USA Network, which shows WWE Raw. Since RAW is the highest-rated show on USA (and one of the highest on cable), the WWE thought they'd expand by resurrecting one of their former competitors. Sci-Fi was the channel chosen by the conglomerate to host the new show. Therefore, it has about as much logic as most corporate decisions... [:D]

I've been a fan of Rasslin' for almost 25 years, and I don't regret it a bit. I was there when Hogan slammed Andre at Wrestlmania III. Along with Looney Tunes and baseball, it was something I shared with my Dad. Although the product has taken a dip in quality since Vinny Mac essentially eliminated all his competition, I still enjoy it. I'm very thankful for DVR, however.

Seriously, I think 1999 or 2000 was the best for the WWE/F. The Hardys and the Dudleys and Edge and Christian tearing it up, the Rock and Mick Foley making us laugh, Triple H at his prime. And nothing can compare to the glory days of the Road Warriors, the Four Horsemen, and the Midnight Express. Fun stuff.

Exactamundo. As I am FFing through the commercials during the ECW show, I am continually reminded why I haven't watched the Sci-Fi Channel since MST3K left. My wife has even resigned herself to just watching Stargate when the DVDs come out.
If ECW continues to bring in the ratings, it may start to fund some of those fine, fine "Sci-Fi Originals," so why complain?

I suppose I shouldn't complain too much. After all, they do have Dr. Who, Galactica, and Eureka. Everything else is one step down from garbage, so why should this be any different?
I did watch about 10 mins of ECW. I'm all for lowbrow entertainment and all, but in those ten minutes I saw:
1) A dude bloody his forehead from crushing beer cans on it.
2) A montage of a blonde stripping
3) The aforementioned blonde getting hit in the head with a cane
4) A collection of the worst fake kicks and punches in the known history of stage fighting
And we Americans wonder why the rest of the world hates us.

Um...
I don't think wrestling is the reason. In fact, WWE does better business when they go abroad than when they are in the US.
And believe me, some of the things in Japanese "Puroresu" makes the ECW show look tame.

ECW one night stand is what its all about, the second ECW's one night stand was just above average, The ECW on Sci Fi is just the same as velocity but with more weapon shots and blood. | |

HBO would likly be the only place that televised ECW could be what it was in the old days. Since HBO would never have any interest in putting on wrestling you will never see old stlye ECW on TV. No one will allow it.
Also being tied to the WWE now ECW is under a bigger spotlight and could not do a lot of what they did under any circumstances. Televised or not.
That said ECW doesn't have to be hardcore to be successful that is not what is missing. What is missing is the honesty. ECW use to have an honest feel about it. All they were trying to do was put on one more show. Now it is constraint and comprimised by corporate culture. It no longer feels honest or relevent. | |

| ECW belongs on the sci-fi channel... since it's debut there was a mummy, a vampire, and very crappy acting... perfect fit IMHO.
All kidding aside.
They are tarnishing the legacy that ECW had on the sport of professional wrestling. There's no great shoots, no innovations, and no heart in the wrestlers. | |

| | I saw the end of one of the recent ECW's and it got my temperater really high, I just wanted to down to were ever they were and kick all kinds of crap out of ever person that has something to do involving ECW. The end of the match Big show pinned kane for the three count because Paul Heyman stopped kane from pinning the big show, then out of nowhere sabu used a chair off the top rope to attack the big show. They've added the old stars of ECW into the story lines of WWE!!! I hate the new ECW and i want vince mcmahon to go away!!! | |

| Man, it brings a tear to my eye to hear that my beloved ECW is but a mere shell of itself these days. Once I heard it was coming back to the Sci-Fi channel, I feared this would happen.
The old days were phenomenal. The insane battles between Tommy Dreamer and Raven. Tables and chairs being as common as headlocks. Barbed wire matches. Taz being the Human Suplex Machine instead of a crappy announcer. Joel Gertner, hilarity ensued whenever he got the mic. Shane Douglas being once of the best heels in the history of wrestling. Bam Bam Bigelow throwing opponents into the crowd. Rob Van Dam doing moves that would blow your mind. New Jack putting his opponent through a table by diving off the arena's BALCONY onto the arena floor. My God those were great times to be a wrestling fan.
I'm sure they didn't even bring back the hilarious jobbers like the Blue Meanie and Angry Amish Roadkill...
I think I still have about 10 VHS tapes of old school ECW at my mom's house from high school. Maybe I should get those... | |

| EC dub all the way. Mr Machman(sp)? has used the talent in the wrong way the last few years. Hence the return of D-X er, Dummys. On WWE the programming is stale. I shudder even watching it....but it was great watching The Big Show and Kane beating the sh*t out of each other Tuesday night on SciFi?

Ric Flair, can you retire already?! I apolgize that your oldest, David can't wrestle or keep a women (Stacy Keibler) for any amount of time. Ric do us a favor and run for governor already.

(Vince has control issuses so he will have to have his heart attack first. Vince is still owed a debt of gratitude. Without vince there would be no Pyro,PPV,High production values, national programing etc etc. Before Vince all wrestling was just local indy shows who did the same show six nights in a roll and paid the wrestlers crap.)

| Even if I was interested in Wresteling (haven't been for a number of years) it would be just one more show that I didn't have time to watch. I have been using DVR on "Blade the Series" and haven't had a chance to watch one episode yet. I still have 5-6 movies there that I just need ot make the time for as well as the new season of "Rescue Me."
