Personally, I always stuck to reading the poetry of others after I tried writing a few myself. I've had unbelievable luck reciting Byron. I think I picked up 9+ dates back when I was single using "She Walks in Beauty". And of course... my favorite book in the whole world is an epic poem... "The Iliad" (which is where my screen name is from).

Anyhow, what in particular is it about poetry that you're interested in talking about? Just chewing the fat over it?

(Man I hope none of my X's ever read this thread, I'm pretty sure all of them thought that I was only reciting poetry for them.... if only they'd know more about Byron they might have suspected )

There was a comic on Comedy Central on Premium Blend who talked about how he used poetry to seem "deep," but it was only an act.

You used Byron? You cad! :o

So, what about poetry are we dealing with in this thread? Are we composing poetry? Critiquing poetry? Seeking the deeper meanings and homo-erotic undertones in Shakespearean sonnets? Admiring the aesthetic qualities of picture poems like "The Bomb"? Pondering the existential concordences of really good Haiku? Quoting Byron to get girls in the sack?

I could write a limerick about my minis for you if you'd like I think at the moment it's about anything you'd like.

Actually remember that thread .... 2 years ago? The maxminis Senryu competition? Maybe we should do that again (hmmm).

In my eberron campaign on a rather wild night out in Sharn the party encountered a trio of drunken ogre poets who wished to have a poetry contest and grabbed the heroes for judges. Not being poetically inclined I cheated and used this lovely site to create some random rhymes....

http://www.pangloss.com/seidel/Poem/

Amongst some of the talented verses the ogres had were...

Ogre Poetry

crying dogs and dying hogs undigested
I made time to see you you said so what
transported to the dreams of the unaffected,
Is there any truth to that?

flowers and handmaids and other tasty dishes
Let's ride on down to old Ikea
And whatever it is, I think 'tis she!
Mashed potatoes, where's the gravy baby?

tavern brawls and sinister malts
Hang your head over, hear the wind blow
leaving us below the salt
through all this pain my roots will surely grow

love is like a axe through the bladder
Whistles gently through the turgid bones of the world
Knock the head off my darling sweet sloped shoulders
And the butlers have traveled the world

griffin steaks and half elf maids dancing
And I think this is all very tiring
Angered by moronic putting.
Then again, what is time when you're in infinity?
