Trent Reznor (NIN) has been angry with the music industry for a long time.  Earlier this year he released Year Zero and as part of the promotional campaign, started a sort of alternate reality game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternate_reality_game) with his fans that included distribution of his new singles on USB Keys.... his record label thought he was infinging on the copy rights of his own songs.  Later that year, the record label released a single from Year Zero (survivalism) which was _not_ the single that Reznor wanted.  He retaliated by leaking the single he wanted (my violent heart) and even encouraging some radio stations to play it instead.

I followed this link from boingboing and it's a great read from Reznor on why he's angry and what he's planning on doing.Âhttp://www.music2dot0.com/archives/36

Plans include migrating to a direct distribution system (albums may be as cheap as $4) which the reunited Pixies have been pulling off for a while now.

Enjoy the read.

As an aside, they mention him putting on a hell of a show in China... I don't know if any of you have seen him perform live or not, but he has the absolute best looking and sounding show I've ever seen.  I've been to 6 NIN concerts and will catch them every chance I get, I highly recommend their show even if you're not a huge fan when they swing through your area.

Interesting.

Pathetic Earthlings. Hurling your bodies out into the void - without the slightest inkling of who or what is out here. If you had known anything about the true nature of the universe - anything at all - you would have hidden from it in terror.
