| Post about recent movies that you watched that were horrible. Please give a full explanation on why we shouldn't watch it!
I just got an HD DVD player for my new xbox 360 and so I updated my Netflix to start sending me HD movies. One of the first ones I received was the movie Pulse.
Holy crap I haven't seen such a bad movie in a long time. It was so bad that I had to post a rant about it.
It made no sense at all. Events happen throughout the film and none of them are coherent. A "computer" virus is killing people but it's a ghost. Yet, a computer "hacker" says that he has created a virus to stop the ghost. Now I'm no hacker or programmer, but I couldn't figure out how this idiot could think of a way to program software that will stop undead. I'm not sure how the 2 go hand in hand and it doesn't explain it in the movie. I won't tell you if his virus worked or not.
Then there was a bunch of hooplah about covering your windows with red tape keeps the virus out of your room. Is it a known fact that if I put red tape over my window I won't receive signals over the airwaves? Cause I've never heard of that before. Even if that does happen with red tape, it was pretty lame to watch in a movie.
Apparently these ghosts were killing everyone in town. Yet the movie only focused on a select few characters and you don't really see many scenes with other characters in them. It felt like these main characters were the only people in town, but it kept making references of people dying all over campus. In the beginning of the movie the girl is in a college classroom of about 70 people. By the middle of the movie she's in the same class listening to the teacher lecture and there were 7 students (I counted them!). If that many people are dying, class is still in session?
It seemed like the entire town was oblivious to what was going on around them. When the virus infects them, they are covered in black spiney-looking rashes. Yet when one of these people dies, everyone is just talking about him commiting suicide. No one even mentions a word about the black crap covering his body. It's just looked at as a typical college student suicide.
By the end of this movie it really took an unusual twist. The movie starts out as if it's just some small scary event happening among friends. It felt sort of like the movie The Grudge. But at the end of the movie the story was supposed to be an apocalyptic type of event....only it never shows more than 2 extras in a scene. So throughout the whole movie you're thinking "WTF are the rest of the people doing.....where is everyone else?"
It just kept getting worse and worse as I was watching it. The main character was running all over the place and never accomplished a thing. I was never sure what the hell she was doing everytime it showed her in a different location.
Stay away from this movie. It's not even worth watching for a laugh. At least Killer Clowns From Outer Space will make you laugh!

I think it might have counted for more than one bad movie for me, there's the initial seeing of it, then flash backs of it in the middle of the night.

| | Can't even remember the title of it anymore, but my uncle and I once rented a martial arts movie that was just sad. Guy wakes up in the morning, gets attacked by a bunch of bad guys, beats them up. Guy goes to brush his teeth and have a shower. He walks out to his car, gets attacked again by a bunch of goons - beats them up. Guy leaves work to go to a bar, gets attacked again, beats them up. This goes on until the end of the movie. Episode 1 holds a special place in the ranks of badness because of the expectations everyone (or at least myself) had for it. When I read the back of the box at the movie rental place, or the nextflix summary, and the film turns out terrible, eh, too bad. But when I'm in a theater looking to meet an old friend and instead I get jarjar, it's an affront that gets remembered :P
But yeah, when I really really think about it, you're right, it's not as bad as some other films. | | | |

But, I'd like to echo the general sentiment about episode I. My best friend had just come back from living in England for a couple of years, and we are both Star Wars fans. We went to see it, thinking it would be an awesome movie with today's technology. Jar Jar Binx! Lucas, come on man! That was a waste of your time and our money. | Well the first one that comes to mind is Zardoz. A sci-fi movie from 1974 starring Sean Connery. It starts of pretty good with some violence and a giant floating stone head.. then it gets pretty weird.. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0070948/

Just the first one?

I don't know when I became such a critic come to think of it, I used to enjoy pretty much anything I slapped into the VCR (or DVD player now) and took a 2 hour break from stuff. Now I seem to dislike the majority of it. At the risk of sounding old and stoggie I think that most new movies are flat out bad, but I think the truth of it is, most movies are bad and I used to be more forgiving. Ah well.
The upshot I suppose is that now I've got netflix so I don't have to suffer with my local movie shop's tiny collection and I've got a better shot of finding a movie I'll like.

| I actually like SW Episode 1. If you ignore JarJar and pretend he's not in the movie, it makes it a better film. But even with the lame characters & poor acting, the movie overall was good I thought. There's a lot of nice scenes in it. Plus the Darth Maul was still a kickass fight scene.
But I can also do a nice rant on what I hate about Episode 1. Lucas really screwed up the coolness factor of Star Wars with Episode 1.

| Mulva, Zombie Ass-Kicker A great no-budget film. Seriously funny, decent FX, piss-poor acting and cinematography. It took me like 45 minutes to realize the copy wasn't bad, but the Asian kid's lips intentionally do not match his dialogue. Be sure to listen for the Manga sounds when he moves.
