I also drove a forklift for a couple of years. I would use it to lift my car up and do my own oil changes. I once used it to dump a couple trash can barrels into a dumpster. It jerked while I lifted them into the air and one can fell off and landed on a guys car (he shouldn't have parked next to the dumpster anyway). Some guys in a warehouse down the block asked me to use the forklift to help them pull some crates out of an 18 wheeler trailer. I wasn't paying attention to how high I was lifting the crate while still inside the trailer and I almost punctured the top of the trailer with the top of the lift. I did all of this when I was 16 and didn't even have a drivers license. I also think you had to be 18 to drive a forklift legally. I guess you get what you pay for
Some benefits I have now are the use of the internet all day long. I'm able to learn how to use computer programs while on the job. They pay for my night classes & books since it's job related. I don't have to clock in which is nice. And they have good medical/dental benefits.
