It's strange (and kind of sad, in my opinion) that I heard about Gary Gygax on the TV and radio, but I didn't find out about this until I randomly went to amazon to check on something...

I had trouble recognizing the name, so I did a quick search and found that he was the author of The Sentinel which was used for the film 2001: A Space Odyssey.

He used to be an engineer and physicist/physician (the science-man:)), then worked for army in WWII. He wrote a lot of books based on things he thought are reasonable within his area of expertise, so no theories about aliens, but things he thought are creatable. He created the design stationary satellites and he is a Sir.

Yeah, he wasn't quite as widely known as Asimov, but, when they were both frequently and widely publishing, they were about equally well known in the sci-fi world especially.

I'm gonna miss all these guys. I've been bummed since Douglas Adams left us...

The only Clarke book I have read was Childhood's End. Very good but extremely depressing book.

I loved Childhoods End!  Yeah, I'm pretty bummed about Clarke leaving us.

I'm sure if he lived at least another year he'd do a story 'bout angry muffins.
