Actually Sid posted pretty relevant stuff as I recall. He dropped off as quickly as he arrived.

And you haven't heard of him since.

Weird how that happens sometimes. I won't go out like that (if ever). I'll post a tear jerking goodbye full of pr0n references.

And pics? Hey, if you're gonna go out, go out with a bang!

I find more humour here, and more serious competitiveness there. Which is nice, a place for each.
What about the Wizo boards?

Filled with dateless nerd trolls living in their parent's basements.

I've never seen a group of people who like to argue more than on the WotC boards. I also love when the pseudo-intellectuals trot out some silly "fallacy" created by a nobody on an obscure gaming message board in order to make themselves look superior.

This is completely accurate.  Unfortunately for us, the best DDM players in the world converge at Hordelings.  They have a far superior strategy discussion, and they also have what used to be one of my favourite facets of the game, the Eternal Campaign.  Still, I think we have more fun here at Maxminis.

MUCH more fun here.

It's the elitist attitudes that some folks have and the conversations/arguments they cause that I find so humorous.
A totally different kind of humor than we have here.

I tried the EC and had it could've been very fun, but I had issues with one guy (not answering emails, unwilling to lock down a game time beyond "evening" etc.) and despite emails to the organizers, I kept getting scheduled to play this same guy, so I bailed.

The year: 1994. From out of space comes a runaway planet, hurtling between the Earth and the Moon, unleashing cosmic destruction! Man's civilization is cast in ruin!
Two thousand years later, Earth is reborn...
A strange new world rises from the old: a world of savagery, super science, and sorcery. But one man bursts his bonds to fight for justice! With his companions Ookla the Mok and Princess Ariel, he pits his strength, his courage, and his fabulous Sunsword against the forces of evil.

A couple of years ago, we got a home-brew version of the EC going around here, but it fizzled too.  I find playing in person much more fun than on Vassal.

The thing that always kept me off Vassal was that it's not the most user friendly app to learn. In this day and age of tutorials and ease of use, that seems unacceptable to me.

Elitist attitude and all.

The problem is, Vassal is one of the best ways to get better at the game if you are the competitive type. The 2nd best player here in Vancouver got to where he is by polishing his natural talent with the world's DDM skirmish elite on Vassal.

I find I make a lot more stupid moves on Vassal than at an actual table. I play much better with the up close 3-d aspect.

It's definitely harder if you're not used to it. Everything's a lot smaller too, and you have to keep shifting your screen if you want a decent size to look at.

Ahh, I don't think I have then. only played a couple random games on Vassal and none of the guys were what I would call champion material....not that I am either.

don't play Vassal, I think games shoudl be played in person. There's a psychological aspect to games, too, you know.

Does that mean you're good at the psychological part of the game and a little weaker on game play itself? Do not mean this as an insult. It's a straight question about where you feel your strengths/weaknesses in overall game play lie?

I'm good at both, of course

I was pulling the shorter end of the rope from the beginning, my Wyvern chose to take a few turns off, not wanting to roll 3 or more. Then came a crit and my Archon was down to 25 Hp at instant. Due to some play mistakes I was able to kill the rest of my opp's army except the Baron, which then teleported to the other side to waste my kobold and drow. Luckily, I convinced the player to go for a fair game and after much drama I killed the Baron

I think a lot of my success that I've had with the game came from unpredictability. I was never one to sit around and work out a buncha moves ahead of time and just roll with the flow. I'm pretty sure some of the stuff I did confused some folks.

Next thing you know, he'll be tossing around Awesome Sauce!!

He is Thundarr, the Barbarian!
