| I think the whole 5th of May thing, lately, can be chalked up to the need by both parties to not drop the ball on the Mexican-American voting block. It would be suicidal to completely write off such a huge group. And, since pretty much every business contributes to either or both parties, it's to their advantage to seem like they're behind things too.
As far as the smaller things (St. Patrick's Day, etc.) it all comes down to the huge number of immigrants.
That, or there's beer involved. Probably that's it.

| What I find amusing is that Condoleeza Rice is black AND woman at the same time, but the Americans still have had major issues with either of these aspects in nomination for the presidency...

The Kentucky primary yesterday certainly proved that. It looks pretty obvious that he will not be choosing her as a running-mate, but he'd better get someone that can help him with some of his weaknesses. | |

More true here than elsewhere. WV has a really low minority % and nearly all of the minorities that are here are centered in 3 cities, though I'll admit the word "city" is a stretch. Obama never had a chance here. | |

We never get any campaigning. WV, on the other hand, has to get that all-so important Bruncle demographic.
