| Since the the closet fan thread was hijacked. What was your first car?
Mine was a '78 Dodge sedan purchased by my old man at a used police car auction. It had power engine wise, but the power windows didn't work(no a/c that worked). It was hell during the summer time but yes I thought I was cool.

| Ah yes. I remember those days well. Cars with no AC.
My first was a Plymouth Volare, forget the year. Nice ugly puke green color too. It was a hand me down from my mom. Hey, it got me to work and back. Next car after that was a Dodge Omni. I'm not sure which one was worse. My sister got that car after me and promptly wrecked it.
First new car I bought was a 94 Saturn SC2. Great car, ran it over 200,000 miles before I traded it in. Got a whole $200 for it. LOL! | | Ghendar - Now with 51% more snark

| Have no car, nor a driving license. Owning a car where I live is useless.
No parking spaces, onewaystreets through town (medieval layout), you'd only get stuck here if you'd come by car (easy to spot the tourists though).
I do have a bicycle. And if I leave town, trains and buses are cheap.

| | First car was a 1979 Ford LTD...forest green, slightly lighter green interior...that thing was a tank! My buddies and I drove around in it all night on $10 of gas...(mid eighties)...we also discovered that should the front and back seats be fully occupied, the trunk had enough space to put a layer of 24's (cases of beer) and lay two people down on top of them... | | Shottglazz "Take my love, take my land, take me where I cannot stand; I don't care, I'm still free, you can't take the sky from me."

| First car was a '95 Teal Ford Aspire. No power steering, no power anything, but it had A/C.
It was always humorous getting in and out. Couldn't stop myself from humming the clown car music.
I've learned over the past few years that owning a car in Utah is something of a necessity. Sure, I can use public transportation to get to work (I work at the university) and school but it's basically useless for anything else. A short trip to a nearby shopping center is 2-5 miles. | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? | My first was a '72 Buick Skylark. Not a bad vehicle either.
It did have this tendency to have its passenger-side fender get mashed...

It was a hand-me-down from my dad. And a couple of years ago, my wife twisted my arm until I bought a new minivan. The fam started having trouble fitting in a sedan because of the car seats, and she wasn't happy with the features on any of the vans that had a good safety record and price/mileage/reliability that I could live with. (I wouldn't buy an SUV because I think they're all priced way too high, and now with gas at $4 a gallon, I'm glad I didn't buy one of those gas guzzlers. Granted, a minivan isn't a *whole* lot better, but it is a little.) | | "Before God we are all equally wise - and equally foolish." - Albert Einstein Champion of Myopic Half-Orcs Winner, WBC X

Public transport is generally way better in Europe. North America was raised on being a car culture. It's fun to drive around, but it's becoming less and less socially acceptable these days. Vancouver is making a push to really improve its public transportation system. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades.
