Posted By maijstral on 06/09/2008 7:43 AM But the point is moot, this is my last post, you may respond however you wish I won't see it. I've defended Maxminis for over a year from people who think its become nothing but a den of hate and negativity,I've steered new players here dispite the eye rolls whenever I mention Maxminis but the negativity, bitterness here has gotten to be too much for me. Even here in one of the very few positive threads on this site it has degenerated into a whats wrong with the new system and I'm partailly at fault for allowing myself to be baited.
So, anyone agree with this? While I do see more negativity than in the past, I don't see it as this bad. You? | | Ghendar - Now with 51% more snark

| Concerning ddmspoilers, I did indeed say "good atmosphere" and will keep fully supporting that notion.
Concerning MM, I don't think it is negative at all. A few posters are perhaps, but the MM community as a whole is not. MM has been the core of the DDM community since the good ol' Merry Merric days, and will remain so in my book.

| MM feels like a grognard board, and that means, for the most part, change isn't a good thing. So, there's negativity over change.
Does that make MM a negative board? *shrugs* I don't know. But I like a lot of the guys here, so I'll stick around. But then, a lot of that kind of stuff rolls off my shoulders.

| I can see the grognard bit. Negativity wise.... I don't see it that much. The Wotc boards are constantly having to edit and delete members posts, here that only happens when somone crosses the line of good taste. I do feel there's quite a bit of angst and irritation over the new edition. The fact that it's so bloody hot right now doesn't help things either...

As to MM negativity? Yup. There's been an awful lot of extremely negative posts by a few specific individuals lately. Plus there are those who have nothing good to say about 4e and wish to be very loud about their opinions.
Compared to the WotC boards, however, maxminis is a haven of peace, tranquility, and decorum

| Things on the WotC [WOT-tzi] (intentionally rhymes with NAZI) boards are rather impersonal and biased as FOX news, as can be expected of a vehicle for advancing Hasbro's agenda of promoting the new product and ignoring the old. Have I mentioned Chainmail in this post yet? On Hordelings my little poems and parodies are viewed not as artistic expressions, but rather as some bizarre form of strategic suicide on the battlemap, and have been criticized as such. DDMSpoilers has, as mentioned above, been a welcoming place, and the first place I posted the pictures of the unpainted master sculpts I discovered on Ebay, looking for Yuan Tis to identify some old lead (it has multiple arms, and a cobra-like hood.ÂI still need to take pics of it). ENWorld?ÂNice place to post information about my Game Day Achive Yahoo group. Geeked is a beautifully done website, but not much happens there.ÂI'm still waiting for the Celene Mystery Trade to get started. MM on the other hand is the place I personally feel most welcome, and made to feel as if I am a friend to the regular MMChat crew. I myself hadda have 'grognard' explained to me Way Back When.ÂI am online most days, and that crazy Swede, the pr0nman, the Canucks The Californian and the Utah guys (well, one moved recently) have made me feel like a valued member of the community.ÂI have never been burned by any Maxminis trader (yet?), and ensure any new players that show to our local AZ DDM night know about MM (Gregg and Tynmgnufmg, or however the hell Noah spells it).ÂI have asked for the occasional art project, and the IA IA twins have been right there with custom art that I still owe them for.ÂI have received various goodies from Maxminis pals without even knowing it was sent, and have enjoyed returning the favor. I am still unpacking from the move back to Tempe on the 16th of last month, but once I find everything again, The Exodus will begin, and local post ofice reps will hate me.ÂI feel a certain camaraderie here on MM, and have much more in common with many Maxminis members than just minis, music, movies, and alliteration.ÂAre we negative at times?ÂHells yes!ÂBecause we aren't just a buncha geriatric grognards grousing gaming.ÂWe're opinionated, and oftentimes seriously despise what Hasblo's done to "Our" game.ÂThen again, it ISN'T just OUR game, is it?ÂIt's like the last hold-out for Dreamblade and AAM, since WotC has not updated their pages in forever.ÂStar Wars guys are here also, and since seeing some mods for Tannhauser, I might pop over there a bit myself.ÂThe Maxminis crew tolerates my oftentimes very unique perspectives, and still encourages my behavior. Guess I just wanted to say we MAY be construed as negative at times when we disagree with the way DDM's going, but only because we fiercely care about our hobby, the friends we've made, and the money we've spent on it.ÂI've seen it on Arachnoboards, Phoenix poetry slam-related boards, and 'Livejournal: We Know Drama' isn't just a clever motto.  | | Waiting for Chainmail Equivalencies since 2005

| | I have been negative about 4e and about WotC quite a bit. I don't mind others liking it. I don't enjoy being told things like, "Just wait and see. There was a big outcry when 3.0 came out from the 2nd edition crowd and look how everyone changed their minds." I don't like it when people try to persuade me to change my opinion of 4e and the direction WotC has been taking with the minis line. But I allow others to have their own opinions. | | "Look to God and live." Alma 37:47 Vindicated Champ of Hippogriff (Arcadian Hippogriff) and Uncommon Horse | |

| I've peen positive about 4e and DDM and just about everything, but I know I'm easy to please. I know not everything is for everyone, and I welcome people to have their own opinions. If there weren't voices of dissent, then nothing would ever get better. Thank you guys for finding problems I gloss over. Without you, nobody would even know they needed to be fixed. You help games become even better.
Is this place negative? Sure, it has a few vocal members who are opposed to the direction things are going, but I find them to be generally agreeable folks. I pop into the chat window whenever I have the time, and I enjoy talking to the people who join me. If that's negative, I think positive might be lethal.
And Stephen... Would "The Californian" happen to be me? I know I'm on the chat a lot, but I did not know I deserved a capital T in my "The." | | Completed trades: Brenigin, desiderata, HockeyFan, MikeyChraal, Raland, GuJiaXian | |

| I find maxminis to be critical of things than other places, but that doesnt have to mean negative. Though teh 4th ed forum probably has the most of the negative.
Though I don't check places as much as I should to comemnt, I find MM is still more polite than nearly every other board.
I find the WoTC board has a lot of people quick to divide into 'sides' and many attempt to ridcule posts rather than respond.

| I think the site is often more critical than others for sure. Personally, I think that's a good thing. There is a nice blend of opinions covering the spectrum. I think that negative opinions tend to stand out to people more. I think if it was all one view, regardless of what that view was, that I wouldn't stick around. Unfortunately, sometimes discussions degenerate....it happens everywhere.
When 4e was first announced, I was guilty of being very negative and crapping all over a lot of things. After a while, I got over my initial anger and realized I wasn't really contributing anything (and was actually helping 4e's cause) especially since I had no intention of ever buying it, so I curbed my posting on 4e. Still feel just as strongly, just not broadcasting it so much. | | The year: 1994. From out of space comes a runaway planet, hurtling between the Earth and the Moon, unleashing cosmic destruction!
