| I just saw trailers for Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant, and Star Ocean 4 (all for xbox 360). Yegads the graphics are awesome and the music is engaging. Finally we're starting to see some next-gen console RPGs (theoretically FFXIII should be out in December for ps3 but I'm not holding my breath).
I haven't been excited for a Squenix offering for years. Mostly they've just been puking out bubble-head games for the DS.

| Some of those "bubble-head games for the DS" happen to be quite good. Okay, one of them is quite good.
The World Ends With You. I know I've surrendered my last week to it, and it will claim more time still.
I also rather liked Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King on WiiWare, but that's more of a "love it or hate it" game. There is one quote that I've heard which describes it very well. "After playing for ten minutes, I realized that four hours had gone by." The game is nigh-impossible to put down. | | Completed trades: Brenigin, desiderata, HockeyFan, MikeyChraal, Raland, GuJiaXian

| So you're all PS3 players? I am actually thinking of buying an xbox 360, mainly because of "the Eder scrolls 4: Oblivion" and "Star Wars: the Force unleashed" titles, any reccommendations? Until now I'v been a pen and paper and pc-gamer,

| Meh. I dont play much of the "Vidja games"
I could go for an updated FF Tactics, though.

| Final Fantasy Tactics got remade on the PSP recently. So there's an updated FF Tactics for you. There's also Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2 coming out... Soon.
Myself, I'm not a PS3 player. I can't afford one. I'm trying to get a job so I can get a PS3 and Metal Gear Solid 4, though. | | Completed trades: Brenigin, desiderata, HockeyFan, MikeyChraal, Raland, GuJiaXian

| I have both ps3 and xbox 360 (no Wii, but virtually everyone I know has one). Here's my take:
Xbox 360: The primary next-gen gaming platform. It's got one of the best shooters exclusive (Halo 3), two of the best RPGs exclusive (Mass Effect, Lost Oddysey), some incredible arcade titles (N+, Puzzle Quest, Penny Arcade: On the Rainslick Precipice of Darkness, Rez HD) and it has some outstanding-looking titles slated (Force Unleashed, Infinite Undiscovery). One interesting exclusive is Scene It? which comes with 4 large-button controllers. I'm a big fan of trivia games and movies so I'm a big fan of this title. The 360 also works well as a media server. With a Live Gold account you can play games online, rent movies, buy TV series episodes, chat with friends, etc. You can also stream music and video from your PC. The controller is the most comfortable IMO.
360 downsides: Expensive. Lifespan on the controller batteries isn't always good (already had to dispose of batteries since they just died and wouldn't recharge). HD-DVD is basically defunct so the 360 doesn't really have HD movie support (HD downloads are all 720p). In order for games to run in full 1080p you have to use either HDMI (not available on older models/low-end models) or a VGA adapter ($50). Live Gold costs $50/year to allow full access to online services (gameplay/rentals/tv downloads/no delay demos).
PS3: The ps3 is a very nice machine. It's much quieter than the 360 and tends to run a lot cooler. It includes the (arguably) best blu-ray player currently available and depending on the model has other nice accessories (mine has 60GB hdd, media card reader, and wifi). HDMI is standard on all models. So far the ps3 exclusives are pretty lacking. The two best are Uncharted: Drake's Fortune and Ratchet and Clank. Oddly, the ps3 has virtually no RPG titles (aside from psX/ps2 games which may or may not be compatible). It does have some really spiffy arcade exclusives (Warhawk, Flow, Echochrome). The ps3 sixaxis controllers are capable of functioning in a similar fashion to Wiimotes. The best implementation of this so far is High Velocity Bowling which is quite fun. Playstation Network allows online multiplayer for free.
PS3 downsides: Expensive. Very few exclusives. The two 'big' exclusive shooters (Resistance Fall of Man, Haze) are lacking (Resistance multiplayer was OK but the single-player campaign was awful. Haze was just another mediocre Ubisoft shooter). The controller is not as comfortable for my hands. Sony has forced developers to integrate sixaxis controls into games where motion-sensing doesn't make sense. Sony recently announced their new Qore product which essentially requires you to pay $25/year to get basically the same online features (game demos, movie/blu-ray trailers, etc.) they were already providing for free. Online play is not nearly as well implemented as Xbox's Live service.
Wii: The wii is a lot of fun. Mario Kart, Twilight Princess, and Mario Galaxy are all phenomenal games. The wiimote/nunchuck control system is innovative and fun. Nintendo offers a download library of NES/SNES/N64/Gamecube titles. Wii Sports is one of the most highly entertaining games ever. Wifi is included.
Wii downsides: Hard to find. Most Wii games aren't nearly as fun as they should be. The download library seems to be missing most of the desirable classic games. No hard drive means very limited space (especially if you start using wiiware) and memory cards are still fairly limited. Getting connected to a router and running on the Wii network can be a serious pain in the petoot.
In sum I'd probably pick up a 360 as the first console. If you have a high-definition (1080p) TV and you're a movie buff the ps3 is a solid choice for high-def entertainment, but lacks some key titles (especially RPGs).
I mostly use my 360 for gaming and my ps3 for movies/blu-ray. I was pretty miffed when Haze turned out to be a completely mediocre shooter (the concepts released about 18 months ago were solid, interesting, and intriguing. Unfortunately, most didn't make it into the game). | | Knight Warlord a.k.a. Commander (#32) in only 6 months. Where's my pie? | The only current-gen console I have is the Wii. It's becoming more common these days (my GameStop actually has them regularly now).
I'll admit that storage is an issue with the downloadable games, and that the Virtual Console library is lacking (though it is getting new titles weekly, they're holding back some of the better ones), but as far as getting my Wii connected to the Internet is concerned... Took me five minutes after bringing it home on launch day.
Other great games for the Wii include Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, and Boom Blox. | | Completed trades: Brenigin, desiderata, HockeyFan, MikeyChraal, Raland, GuJiaXian

D. Why buy a xbox360 for Oblivion ??? The PC version is far better, with the thousands of mods that have been done...

| I'm a big fan of the Wii, personally. I think it delivers the most for the cost. Plus, it's the easiest to get everyone playing, including family and non-gamers. The fact that you can 2.4 Wii's for the cost of a PS3 is another big reason. Plus, the plan to make a wii-sword, with full sensors, makes a realistic fighting game very possible.

| The press releases from e3 sum up the state of the consoles:
Microsoft: The Xbox360 is now more like the Wii Sony: The ps3 is now more like the Xbox Nintendo: I'm sorry, we're too busy counting money to be bothered showing anything of interest
