A sad day for a hockey fan.  The Habs did not make the playoffs this year.  Oh well, they probably didn't have a good chance at the Cup anyways.  But still, I always have fun cheering the "bleu, blanc, rouge" on.

Yes!

And I miss the Jets, too.  Whenever the Hockey Legends come to Vancouver, I make it a point to go and watch.  One of the best players is always Hawerchuk.

I see you're wearing the Canucks uniform circa Bure/younger Linden era. They might actually do something with Luongo between the pipes this year. But, if they're to go deep, Naslund will have to play a captain, not just be role-player.

thenameless: Good eye! Not a vancouver fan, just happened to be wearing it the day the pic was taken. (Charity cook-off, our booth's theme was hockey) ...trying to decide my pics for the hockey pool(s) and I can't beging to guess who'll get out of the first round in the west. I'm going witht the sens and sabres in the east, but I may just pick one or two from each team in the west.

Sabres are good to go, at least to the east final. Sens could get a bit of a scare from the Pens' young guns, but probably still get by them. Anaheim looks built for the playoffs if their goalies show up - Scott Niedermayer always steps it up in the playoffs if you need to pick defencemen. I also can't help but go with a gut instinct on Thornton, Marleau, Chechoo, etc - it's about time for them isn't it? I'd say stay away from Detroit/Calgary, as this could go either way. Lecavalier might not be bad for a playoff run either. Good luck, man.

Losing a franchise player like Joe Thornton probably means that Bruins fans are in for a lot of tough seasons.  Your only hope is to get a few good draft picks in the next few seasons.

May I be so bold to say that I have a feeling that the Sharks will do very well in this year's playoffs. They have a lot of depth on the wings (the thornton, cheechoo, milhalek line has been on fire!), a solid defense (young but still solid). Last but not least, the best goaltending duo in the league. I believe the toughest opponent for the Sharks will be Anaheim. Nashville will be an interesting series that may go 7 as they are looking for some payback after last year.

To a lot of experts, that's not such a bold statement.  Anaheim, San Jose, and Nashville were all pegged to go far at the beginning of the year.  San Jose's regular season was a bit of a disappointment, but I wouldn't be too happy about facing them if I were Nashville.

It was disappointmet? I don't think so, sure we Sharks fans have excepted a lot out of the Sharks this year. We stumbled I think twice I think but Anaheim was on top all year long and we finished 2nd in the Pacific. They can't depend on Teamu in the playoffs because he's not all that physical. We finished ahead of Dallas whom I depise greatly. That is a plus. Facing Nashville is much better than facing Dallas. Vancover faces them in the first round and I think the Canucks may be making an early exit.

Yes that really hurts us.  I am not worried yet. Little Joe Pavelski can step in now and hopefully show some of that spunk he showed when he was called up. I haven't checked as to how long Cheechoo gonna be out though.
Now the question of the day was the hit intentional?

Mincing words here, but for sure he intended to "hit" Cheechoo. However, I don't think he intended to injure with the knee-on-knee. One angle seems to show that he was just going through a normal skating motion.

Anyway, it's all moot now. You've got your Cheechoo Train back.

Thanks but don't hex us man! :p I am hoping that the Sharks will face the Red Wings in the second round. They had a better season series against them than the Ducks.
Update as of 10:05 pm (pst), since Vancover beat Dallas tonight.Me thinks that the Sharks will indeed be playing the Ducks. Not what I wanted but any chance to beat SocCal is kudos for us.

Vancouver will be facing Anaheim.  You get your wish in drawing the Red Wings.  I think the Sharks will feast on the Wings, probably be Sharks in 6.

It's Sabres versus Rangers.  Sabres in 6 games.Â

And I'm tickled pick to see that Ottawa and NJ get to beat the snot out of eachother before they play the Sabres.Â

I haven't followed the Sabres this like I should have, are they really that good? Then again they took care of Crosby & co easliy. it is really only Crosby right now, beware of the rebirth of the 90-91 Penguins soon to come. Seriously somebody fill me in on this fetish of the Sabres please?

As for the Rangers, it may be Jag's swan song thiis run. I haven't been able to see any games of the Rangers thanks to Versus or what ever it is called. I miss ESPN's coverage so much. Jagr has been a favorite of mine since he was drafted by Pittsburg way back when. Ah the memories of those games.....anyhoo.

My Sharkies roll in 6 over Detroit.

yes

Point of order: Ottawa beat Crosby & Co.
Seriously somebody fill me in on this fetish of the Sabres please?

This shouldn't be a surpise: Confrence finals last year; followed up by winning the presidents trophy this year and was pretty much picked to be a contender for the Cup by most everyone. I guess they don't get much "media love" on the west coast?

You're probably right about Jagr... Hope they do some dammage to the Sabres. 'Cause it is going to be a grind for my Sens to get past the Devils.

Krush, I picked your Sharks or the Ducks to get out of the west, but after seeing how Detroit mopped the Flames.... I dunno now. Will be a great series to watch (if I can stay awake that late).

Oh and Ducks in 2!

Cheers,

Moi bad about Ottawa, but the Pens are going to be a force to reckon with in the future. The Sharks played very well against the Red Wings this year. The Red Wings are bit older than the Sharks too.

The Ducks in 2, I think not. :p

Hey Krush, you like those early 90's Penguins too? Lemieux is my 2nd favourite player of all time. If he hadn't been so banged up with a bad back and cancer, they would have won more Cups. And yes, these new Penguins look really promising, but it'll be harder to sustain this time around with the salary cap and all. They better win sooner than later.

The Sabres are very good this year.  As long as they stay healthy and play their game.  They can roll 4 scoring lines every game.Â

Also, the Ottawa Senators are now playing NJ Devils.  It will be great to watch those two beat the _____ out of eachother before one of them faces the Sabres.Â

Mario Lemieux is one of the greatest players of his day (and I'm not evena Penguins fan).  And kudos to him for keeping the Penguins in Pittsburgh.  Its great for that city.Â

And the Ducks are looking good for a possible matchup versus Sabres in final.  And a nice final that would be.Â

Sorry as I am Sharks fan, though I follow the Penguins as much as I can. I don't think San Jose is gonna fail this time around. The puzzle fits this time around and with the additions we got at the trade deadline are helping huge! Rivet(a vet o D!) is scoring and Guerin is always a threat. Local papers are saying the Detroit series will go 7 games. Chris Chelios is 40 what?

Canucks have got more speed than the Ducks....so that'll be interesting to see.

Where is my ESPN???? Versus needs to be retired  I am not getting my proper Hockey fix.

I totally agree with you, Mario was great. He was beyond great. It was totally sick watching him play or the team for that matter. Even it is was on TV. The Penguins of that era were scary, you had Joe Mullen, Tochet (sp?), Jagr and the d of Samuelsson-both of them.

Dangit the Ducks won tonight grrrr....

Sharks win, woohoo! I don't think the league knows how good we are. San Jose is looking good right now, having 4 lines that can all score, (if I was an opposing coach, I would be more worried about where the wife wants to go on vacation!).

Plusses for us. Mike Grier and Curtis Brown, great penalty killers. Grier had an awesome series against the Preds and hmmm he used to play for Sabres. I saw him play when he was with the Oilers....nuff said. Brown is a gritty guy and will mix it up.

My only worry is the power play. Ron Wilson if you're listening your power play top unit should be Thronton, Marleau, Guren(yes him!), Rivet and Carle. It sounds so ugly on paper.
