| Send it via Air Mail. It's the cheepest and fastest method. It usually takes around 2 weeks to most countries that you'll be trading with (Canada, Japan, UK, etc.). However, sometimes it takes longer. I've had it take as many as 4 weeks.
On customs forms it is best to send your minis as a "gift" with a value of $10 or less. That will prevent your trading partner from having to pay duty fees. | | Have: Cat; Want: Storm Giant Champion of Anything Dragonlance Before trading, please check the Disputed Trades Thread

No problem. The duty fees are a good thing to keep in mind. There have been complaints from people that receive minis with high declared values because they end up paying an arm and a leg to get their package.
I mis-spoke a little above. I should have said that Airmail is the best value in terms of shipping speed for your dollar. Obviously there are faster ways to send, but they are extremely expensive. | | Have: Cat; Want: Storm Giant Champion of Anything Dragonlance Before trading, please check the Disputed Trades Thread

| Wow. Cost me $8.40 to ship about 12 minis to Australia. Couldn't use the small envelope, which would have cost half as much.
Is that normal? | | Champion of Neogi

I don't think so although I've only shipped to Aussie a few times. Are you sure you sent them by airmail? | | Have: Cat; Want: Storm Giant Champion of Anything Dragonlance Before trading, please check the Disputed Trades Thread

| Yes.
The options were $8.40, $4, and $4.50. The $4 version was for small envelopes. And my box obviously wouldnt fit in there so that was unavailable to me. The $4.50 version was listed as taking 4-6 weeks, so that definitely wasn't going to be air.
So the cheapest that would get there by air was $8.40 for me. | | Champion of Neogi

Those kinds of shipping costs are why I don't trade overseas anymore. By the way, did you ship only in a mailer envelope, or a box inside an envelope? Envelope by itself is bad. Bad, bad, bad, especially since it's going overseas. Mailer envelopes are in general a bad idea for minis.

Ouch. That makes trading much less appealing. | | Have: Cat; Want: Storm Giant Champion of Anything Dragonlance Before trading, please check the Disputed Trades Thread

| I don't know about sending to Australia, but I do know a bit about USPS services, since I often order minis from U.S. online stores - and people (waves to Lab Monkey).
USPS Airmail Letter Post can be ANYTHING of reasonable size and less than 4 lbs. in weight. It doesn't have to fit in any sort of envelope. I've received a couple of factory-sealed cases of minis via Airmail Letter Post, and the shipping cost was about $20 per case to my country. The $4 sounds like a Letter Post price (most minis I receive are in the $3.60 - $5.50 range, depending on the number of minis inside and the added weight of packaging materials), and you should have been able to send it that way.
If in doubt, visit the USPS site and use the shipping calculator. You enter the weight, and it will list all available shipping methods and their prices. You ought to be able to print out the results and take them to your Post Office if they refuse to cooperate. I know sage_raistlin had some problems with his PO during his huge sale, and they only let him send using Global Express, which is very, very expensive - but those were definitely issues with his PO, and not USPS in general. I did receive the Global Express package after three days, though. Letter Posts usually take a week, sometimes longer (up to a month). | | Hypethetical Blood War Set List | Champion of the Gelugon | Vindicated Prophet of Blood War Ha 69/80 | De 60/60 | Ar 57/60 | GoL 72/72 | Ab 60/60 | DK 60/60 | AF 60/60 | UD 59/60 | WD 57/60 | WDQ 3/60| BW Total DDM Count: 1037 | No chance of finishing the set | Will finish the set | Set
