Senario: Trader A and trader B agree to a trade and send each other packages. Trader A gets the package from trader B but the other trader's package hasn't shown up after a very long wait (one month +).

Q. What is trader A's responsibility to trader B: send trader B's minis back, send another lot of minis to trader B, no responsibility unless trader B paid for insurance, etc.?

I have my own opinion on how this should be handled, and know this can be a touchy subject, but looking for others' thoughts.

A very touchy subject indeed. Some will agree with me and some will dis-agree, but what I would do in this circumstance is,
If I had a trade with X, we sent the same time. I recieved his, but he never recieved mine, I would do one of the following...

1. If local (US) trade and I used DC and it said I sent, but never updated beyond that, then obviosly the postal service lost it. I'd send trader X their minis back OR send suitable replacements.
If the DC stated the package had been delivered, but they insist it wasn't,and you confirm it was sent to the correct address, then it was stolen from their residince in which case the responsiblity is on them once the package has been delivered.

2. If international, Then I would evaluate the traders past trading history and reputaion and if he/she seemed to be an honest trader, then I'd do the same as #1. However, if they had a history of reporting missing packages, I would be weary of them and skeptical.

Was this international or local? If local was DC used? I'm not real familiar with the Canadian Postal service and their mailing options.
Maybe with the holidays it was just held up and everything will work out though. I've had trades take over a month internationally this time last year.

Hope this helps a little and good luck with the out come.

There were some threads discussing this before the wipe. Is there a general "protocol" consensus on maxminis about these issues? Issues like this can be situational, but it is good to have some general guidelines.

As was asked by bassman2972, was this an international trade, and if so, what is the country location of the other trading person?

The address was a military APO. I guess that would qualify as "international" in terms of shipping times. Delivery Confirmation is not available on shipping services.

Let's assume, for argument's sake, that both traders are honest, reputable and beyond reproach.

As for the APO address, there's no telling how long it may take with the holidays.
Going back to my examples in my previous post, If my package to trader X were to get lost in the mail and X had a perfect rep and no ferquent "lost packages", then I would be inclined to either send X their minis back or send a suitable replacement to them. Since it was my package that was lost, I wouldn't expect X to suffer the lost.
I would hope that if the tables were turned and trader X's package was lost, he'd do the same.

Since it's an APO address, I would give it more time to show up. Just be patient (or ask the other trader nicely to be patient) and see what happens. I'm thinking the combo of APO and holidays is what's causing the delay. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the input guys. I am mainly looking for thoughts on whether a trader's responsibility ends after the package is posted.

To play devil's advocate here: sellers on ebay are not responsible for lost or damaged packages unless insurance is paid for by buyer. Why is this different?

First of all, the rates for Canada and the US ti have insurance is only available on very high shipping costs and for some ebay sellers that have "plugs" in the US postal system and
into Canada post for canadian sellers.

Because we are a friendly community of collectors who are decent human beings?
Because we know that some of us work hard for their cash and trading is essential to our addiction.
Because some of us feel that our word is our bond and if we agreed and promised you something would arrive at your door, just like your end did to us, then that's what should happen [)]

That's one of the reasons I don't use ebay anymore. However, anything you buy on-line has to do with a little trust. If someone does something wrong, they sufer from a damaged reputation from it. On ebay, if you ship bad, damaged packages, you get bad feedback. After awhile no one will buy from you.
Some goes here. If someone is notoriously ships and others either never recieve or recieve damaged minis, they get bad references.

I think it all comes down to each individuals conscience. Would they want this happening to them? That's why if I sent a package and it was lost, I'd replace them or send back theirs and I'd hope theey'd do the same if the tables were turned.
