When I started trading at maxminis over a year ago, there was a thread stating protocol for trading. On that thread was a guideline that face-to-face trades didn't really count for maxminis trades. In other words, if we do a face-to-face trade, we shouldn't record it on the trading system. Did this guideline get overlooked in the trading guide, or has it been done away with?

There was lots of discussion on the boards some time ago about that since the whole mechanism is different. Local trades that are done in person, do not involve any trust and mailing issues, which is the biggest hurdle to trades over distance. You know the other trader has the items and you have no trust risk that they will follow through on their end. When you mail off ones precious minis to another party in another state or even country, you must trust that they will do the same.

The other concern that was raised was with traders inflating their trade totals by undertaking lots of local trades, giving the appearance of being very active and reliable, when in fact they might have made very few actual mailing trades. However, all this being said, there is no way for the trade interface, or the system that was manually maintained to police this in the first place, so it was on the shoulders of the traders to not include the local trades they made in the reporting list. I know some adhered to this intention, but I suspect many did not.

If you have a reasonable number of trades already and the other trader does as well, I see no real problem with using the interface to give a record of the activity. The original point of the system was to give an indication of the trustworthiness and reliability of the various posters / traders on the boards. The whole thing is based on trust in any case so someone looking to pull things would still be able to, just not upfront about it.

One caveat, if you look at someones trade history and they have 20 trades, but all are with the same three people, you might check things out a little more before finalizing a deal. They could be 4 people in the same town or building or dorm that have done all their trading within their own little circle.

I've done a dozen or so trades in person, until a few months ago that was the only way I traded, and it never occured to me till now to include them on the trade interface.Every set the three of us in the area usually trade among ourselves first then go online to trade the rest.

hmmmm double my trades in the interface [}:)].....naw to much trouble.[)]

Correct the real intention of the interface is to facilitate record keeping for long distance trades. It essentially automated what I used to do manually, which was go over all the report trade here threads, the reference threads for various traders and update the status of each trader and trade on a master excel spreadsheet. As the number of trades and traders grew, the effort became more than I could willingly support and Jai cribbed up the database trade interface to surplant what I had been doing.
