the conclusion i have reached from the few that posted on Ironfist's thread is that...

everybody expects minis (rares, unc, com, repaints, promos) to come unbagged unless otherwise stated.

i personally see it like this... all "booster box" minis can come unbagged and i have never asked that they be bagged (because i play with them). i have recieved minis still in their bags but i pretty much open them the instant they come into contact with my skin

Repaints and promos: i expect them to come bagged unless otherwise stated. they are the collector's items that the average player can do without, if the average player doesn't have the piece then of course they are going to unbag the mini, to play with it, adding value to the ones left in the "collector" condition.

i have a set of repaints (not quite complete) that are still bagged, i have some that are unbagged that i use for rpg and the like.

i keep all the promos bagged (who would want an unbagged gencon blue rhino promo? its not tourney legal until the set comes out, its uncommon, so in November you'll have 4 of them, and it looks no different than the set release ones)

so please sound off on what all of you think, thanks

i play skirmish so it dosen't really matter to me but i think it is only a matter of time before there is a seperate price for bagged and unbagged due to the fact of rising internet prices and lets not forget what happened to alpha and beta from MTG

I agree with all your assessments, kritter. Bagged or not...as long as they are in good shape and with card. I prefer bagged promos and repaints, except when I want a second for a PC or NPC, but unbagged is fine too.

I am a collector, and as such, seek out bagged minis. I have, however, started skirmishing, so for the ones I plan to play with, it doesn't matter.

@Wolfgang, yes, that's what I'm hoping for. I'm doing it because I like to collect these things, but when the prices are high, then it's time for me to cash out.

I don't care whether the minis I receive are bagged.Except the promos, which I prefer sealed.I however don't assume the person trading me the promos is trading me bagged ones....that's why I ask.

I don't care, but I'm finding that if I know a mini will probably be set aside for trades, like large and huge minis, I don't take them out of the plastic. The medium ones are a lot more useful for RPGs I find and I use them a lot more frequently.

I've never been abe to keep tos I like in their original packaging and I don't expect it of others.

I try to keep all my minis bagged until I use them, just in case I decide to trade them and I'm trading with someone that prefers them bagged. I'm a skirmisher and RPGer, not a collector, so I don't care. I expect if folks are looking for a specific, they should mention that specific (bagged, with stat card in perfect condition, etc.) and never assume anything. Heck, I even put on my trade thread that I am oly looking to trade for minis with stat card. Most of us consider this a given, but I don't want to run into the one person who doesn't. There is certainly no rule that says all promos should only be traded in a bag unless otherwise stated. The Storm Archers came out of the kit without a bag.

In general there is very little observed price difference between bagged and unbagged, less than 10% is my guess and that is probably artificial since buyers would not generally care unless you mention it to them. There are a handful of collectors who want entirely bagged collections and will pay a premium for them. At one point we had a couple traders here who would trade unbagged for bagged for the premium of an Uncommon each. I know I sent a number that way for one of those guys to complete a bagged set.

Like others in the thread, I keep them bagged until needed, but have zero hesitation to pop them out if I might need or use them with no regrets about keeping them MIB. One of the reasons I suspect that the premium for bagged is that the stat cards are not MIB, so there is not a realy purity to the item, parts of it are out in the open and being handled, ie not MINT.

Built the addition for this addiction, now on to the "gaming table" project....

Kritter, (in all due respect as a trader and valued citizen of Maxminis)

if you have Ironfist down as a disputed trader simply because he sent you a figure that was unbagged, but this was not stipulated in your trade agreement, this is wrong.  This feels more like an unfortunate misunderstanding where both parties own a percentage of the blame.

It seems to me that Ironfist has met his end of the agreement and is now going above and beyond by procuring and sending you a bagged figure.  I believe that, upon reception of the bagged figure, you owe Ironfist the original figure and a big thanks.

Of course, this is JMHO, please disregared if there are other unfortunate circumstances of this trade.

this isn't the topic of the thread please refrain from spamming this thread

and if you have to be involved go read my disputed trade thread to see why he got listed a little more than 1 unbagged mini buddy

Sorry to have spammed your thread, I didn't feel it was that far off from the topic. I don't have to be involved, but you and Ironfist have asked for inputs around it and I've seen at least 3 topics on it, thus, I've given my input in what I thought was a curteous and constructive way. I certainly did not mean to offend. I read your dispute. . . eh, anyway.

I can take a hint (or a hammer to the head). I'm out of it. Good luck!

The smart thing to do is to always be explicit in your dealings regarding the state of the figures and cards involved. If the figure is bagged/unbagged: say it. If the card is damaged/undamaged: say it. If the figure is bent/straight: say it.

Most of these types of problems arise because people do not include sufficient detail in their offers/negaotiations.

Personally, when I began trading DDM online, my expectation was that minis were bagged unless otherwise stated. When I found this to be untrue, I began being very explicit with regard to the condition of the trade materials. Since then, I have not had a problem.

Since most of the minis I collect are for display and use I don't care if they are bagged or not. However I am aware that some people prefer bagged so I don't open the ones I haven't used with the exception of my own collection 1 rare 3 uncommon and 3 to 5 commons depending on how much i like them. All others remain bagged until I trade them or find an RPG use for them.
Since I like to display my collection I also open repaints for display, but any extras remain bagged and I don't go out of my way to collect promos (won't turn them down but don't hunt for them either).
There are exceptions to this,if i recieve an unbagged mini that I later have no use for or decide that I don't need a certain rare that I was using in a campaign I may trade it but I always try to say up front if a specific mini is unbagged.
