| Is it just me or have people lost the art of the trade?
Does everyone just expect to have an offer for a trade all nice and neat and equally balanced up front, or is the term "we can work from there" just too vague to suggest this.
Perhaps this is merely a rant, but it's frustrating to me to have trades get declines out of hand just because it doesn't include a rare up front.Â
I think it's time to just finish up my trades and be done for a while.

| I've proposed trades that were in my favor (according to Madda's) less than a dollar and gotten replies back about how the trade isn't even and they weren't interested. So I've gotten in the habit of proposing trades that were as even as possible - and left little room for haggling.
I'm willing to haggle and even enjoy it. But apparently many people don't. If they have something I want I propose a trade as even as possible - to increase the chances of them accepting. When trades are proposed to me I haggle a bit more. | | Champion of Gromph Baenre

| I don't mind haggling myself. In the end haggling probably works out for both anyway. As for the "Art of Trading"? Good question, depends on how much you want to trade and how often. The more often you trade the more chance of there being a problem. I've said it before and I'll say it again, I like trading here @ Maxmini's because of the trust and the great community that we have. My high point was Jan of this year. I traded a bunch(18 total) and the post office employees were sick of looking at me. Still looking for a Gith Dragon Knight. Trading older rares. | | Gehenna | |

| Haggling is the best part of trading. Not nearly enough people really value the back-and-forth aspect of the trading process, and are after instant gratification. I blame the decline of patience in the younger generation for this (and Wake, of course).

| | I love the art of the deal. I've had what I consider to be some legendary negotiations in the past. One negotiation with Thor went almost a year - yes, almost a year. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

| | Wow. That's impressive. I find I'm willing to negotiate in all cases as long as things are moving towards something. Do you think this is a younge vs older thing when you do find there is a problem? The only trade I've done where it was cancelled after the counteroffer I made was done with someone who seemed very immature by the way he terminated the deal. | | Completed trades: blackthorne, Drakkengi,Thorgrin, Ironfist Boulderbender x2, ckissee, nasamonkey, Username, Star, Ace13 x3, emontedodger x2, Drconveyor, church, Joeyb, Sir Bozak The Damned, Xeromod, the other guy x2, Qucalion of Celene, Dagaron x2, berus316, qillan_dvra, AshloreDarkShadow

One negotiation with Thor went almost a year - yes, almost a year. With Thor that sounds about right. My trade with him took 6 weeks I think. He seems to have fallen off the radar, I haven't recieved a Thor's Trade List in many a moon. What a character.

| | Were these with constant offers/counteroffers or was it more an offer was made and time passed before a second? Again, I'm amazed anyone has such patience. | | Completed trades: blackthorne, Drakkengi,Thorgrin, Ironfist Boulderbender x2, ckissee, nasamonkey, Username, Star, Ace13 x3, emontedodger x2, Drconveyor, church, Joeyb, Sir Bozak The Damned, Xeromod, the other guy x2, Qucalion of Celene, Dagaron x2, berus316, qillan_dvra, AshloreDarkShadow

For starters yes there were some counters but you do have to add in the Thor factor. I knew what I was getting into and hadn't any problems trading wise with him. Patience is also helpful. I wouldn't say trading is a lost art, some of us live in fast state. Also some of us know what we want and don't feel the need to haggle. If I had my way, we'd all have mini teleporters to do our trades so we could get our mini's sooner and cut down on the cost of shipping. | | Gehenna

| | I personally am quite open to haggling. I think that some people don't really have a grasp of haggling. One of the things I enjoy about trading is that we can haggle. In the common marketplace, the concept of making an offer and bargaining is virtually non-existent. I enjoy it quite a bit. | | "Look to God and live." The latter. We'd get the ball rolling for a week, and then he'd turn into James Bond and have to go off and save the world. A month or two later, I'd get a surprise email asking "where were we?" Then we'd start with the same basic minis (adjusted on my end as I trade on average every 5 or 6 days) and haggle again. Then he'd disappear again. But, we both stuck it out and eventually we had a blockbuster trade of over a hundred figs, and we both ended up happy. | | Over 270 successful online DDM trades. | |

| I still take my time on most of my trades, and I still only get about half of the possible trades taken care of, and I still haggle (sometimes too long, and someone else ends up with the trade).

| I'll haggle over details. Efforts to expand a trade seem useful at times or request another similiar valued figure in place of one initially proposed but I decline all low ball offers without excuse or discussion.
There are better and more enjoyable ways of wasting time.

Mind you I don't use the price guide as more than a vague reference either. I tend to scan the marketplace threads to get an idea of relative value as well. | | Robert Rosehart Champion of the pixie
