| Congrats... on 2nd, especially if you weren't overly optimistic to begin with! Nice report as well.
I have to say I've been looking at the hapries, and Chad's band looks very nice...

| congrats CSchroder!
Looks like all of your practicing on vassal paided off. You took alot of time practicing and listening to other players so I think you deserved to make it to the top 4.

| Someone would have to actually play LSD or IF bands. There was only one LSD band out of 29 participants - it went either 2-3 or 3-2; though to be honest, his professed goal was to record the maximum number of eye of gruumsh and beholder kills. I don't think there were any true IF bands (Marshall + 2 FBs), though there may have been as many as 3 mixed varients. The tournament was predomently CE and LE. There were at least 5 beholder bands, a traskor/rakshasa/gauth, a fire giant/rakshasa/gauth, and a blue dragon/aspect of nerull for LE. CE was mostly some varient on trifecta or quadfecta, though as Charles reported, there was a hill giant/ravager anti-CE band and I also saw a traditional lich necromancer/dual clay golem band. There were no LRD bands. The only other LG band beyond the one LSD was a couatl/stone golem.

| Jesse, Phrank, Pat and Adept--thanks for the congrats! You guys on Vassal have been a great help to me and I want to do my best to pass on advice and encourage others to play this great game like others have done for me! Hope to see you all at GenCon--looks like I'm tentatively going!
Johnny, I don't have the experience to say whether or not the Harpies will stand up to LSD or IF. CE doesn't have the best saving rolls so it certainly works well against the orc warriors. In my first game against Chad, that's all that was affected so I didn't think it had too much of an impact on the game result. In the finals, it had a big impact when my Eye, Ravager and Tiefling all failed and were stunned. More experienced players would probably have a better way to deal with them. First and second time I've seen them!
I don't expect them to be at GenCon but I may be wrong. After all, I was the person who thought CE warbands were being replaced by LSD and Inspiring Frenzy!
In case, it wasn't clear--CE took all four spots in NJ: Chad with the Harpies, me with the ZWD, and then Mike with 4 CE beaters (I think Eye, Champ, Red Sam and Ravager) or Arnminster with his Drow Cleric and Hill Giant warband. Mike and Arnminster didn't play a final game so I don't know who was third and who was fourth.
Because most of my games went to time, I didn't see many of the other warbands but from what I heard, there was only 1 LSD warband, 1 Inspired Frenzy (HEBI variant) and 5-6 Beholder warbands. There was a Fire Giant warband and I believe some other ZWD variants. No Large Red Dragons. | | Charles AKA The Beardless One, Proud Member of Team Amish

| I'm glad I went to the NJ qualifier. It was a great time and there were no incidents of unfair play (At least from what I saw).
Originally I was going to play the following
Ryld Champ Ravager ZWD bunch of Orcs
but I was bringing my son along and he had wanted to play a LSD band, After practicing with him for the last few weeks I noticed that he was not getting the timing right so I let him play the band I was going to bring. I really did not feel like playing the LSD band so I took out one of my reserves (Which I noticed had done well at another qualifier)
Cleric of Lolth Orc Druid Ravager Hill Giant 6 Timber Wolves 2 Hyenas
This band worked out really well though is prone to Commander Assassination and bad saves as reported by Charles. The only other issue I see with this band is against high AC bands (LSD)
Out of my 6 matches 5 of them were against Orc bands and the other was a Green Fang, 3 Dire Bears and Nebin.
I did feel bad for my first opponent. I rolled about 7 crits the entire match and if not for my Ravager criting on his he probably would have won.
Just to warn everyone out there: Chad has the harpy band timed to perfection. I expect Chad to be in the top 8 at Gen Con. I'm still not sure if I will be at the finals.
My 2 losses were to Chad and Charles who both played exceptionally.

IF? Of course it will. Those wolves, GCR's, and other support are all low save figs. Likewise, you have 25% chance on each FB, not great, but not impossible.
LSD is another story...

| | Thanks CSchroder and Arnminster. You guys were really nice guys to meet and play against. I thoroughly enjoyed the tournament and getting to play some really good players like you guys. I am posting my tournament report piece by piece, as I find the time, over in the other forum as it seems to get more hits there and I am used to going there first all the time. I apologize to the moderators if this is the wrong thing to do. Let me know if I should be posting that here. | | Member of Team Amish 3rd Place in 2007 Constructed World Championship My combined DDM Skirmish record of all games ever played in all formats. 486 - 188 - 4 | |

Heh, I wish! [:D]
Unless they are giving out at least $10,000 prizes for 1st-3rd place finishers of D&D skirmish at Gencon, it isn't very practical for me to head out there. Competitive play is surely fun, but I'd rather use my air fare for more sensible spending - like buying cases of future sets for rpg use. [:p]
But who knows, maybe sometime in the future (when D&D skirmish finally gets more support like Magic Pro Tour) I just might join you guys out there.
