| I went 3-1 with an LE band:
Lord Soth Iron Golem (non-Epic tied to Soth) Beholder Human Blackguard (thanks Teach!) Chraal (tied to HBG) Steel Pred Doogie Champ Helmed Horror
First Match: Victor (Assault) Soth, Beholder x3, Dk Naga, Ghostly Consort x2, Gauth on Tomb of QP He split his forces, so I Blasted the nearer half right off the bat, getting the Consorts to 25 and 5 hp. I also had my forces split to avoid his Blast. HBG, Chraal and Pred came up one side; IG, DC and HH up the other with Soth and Beholder hanging back. Victor slid my Predator back in order to catch my hiding Chraal in his Blast, then petrified the Chraal when I moved it up. He kept his Soth out on the front lines where I was able to surround and kill it eventually, since he could never bring all his Beholders to bear to heal him. I'd have been much happier if I hadn't spent 3 WHOLE TURNS with my HH failing to hit a 5 hp creature - I HATE INCORPOREAL! The Doogie finally got it on a Cleave after killing Soth. Neither of us scored assault points.
My kills: Soth, Ghostly Consort His: Steel Pred, Chraal, HH
Second match: John K (Cave of Pain) Steel Pred x4, HBG, Mind Flayer TP x2 on Hellspike
John moved his MFTs first round instead of Screaming, which gave me the chance to Blast and Roar them to death. His Preds caught Soth in 2 Roars, I almost lost right there but Soth saved on the second Roar and got healed by the Beholder. I threw everything I had at his Preds, except the Chraal who based his HBG and then failed to hit him. It was a vicious slugfest, eventually coming down to his HBG and last Pred vs IG and Soth (flanking Pred) with Beholder support. Soth hit thanks to charging and flanking to drop the Pred - Cave of Pain also helped make up for my lack of magic damage with HH, IG and Chraal. Smoke was rarely a factor in this match.
His kills: Chraal, HBG, HH, DC, SPred Mine: SPred x4, MFT x2
Third match: Ed (Plunder) Epic Balor, Bubgbear Champ, Ogre Ravager, Gith Fighter x2, Orc Savage on Lost Temple
I was more than happy to play Plunder on a map with no victory areas - neither of us had to screw around with tile grabbing. My first-round Blast caught his whole band - then, when he had everything moved up, the Pred caught everyone in a swift Roar and retreated. The Beholder polished off the Ravager with distintegrate and inflict wounds. I moved up and surrounded the Balor and we slugged it out. OMG! The Balor NEVER misses, his damage is HUGE, and he has just a TON of hp. My high-attack guys were missing his 28 AC left and right, it was looking pretty grim. Eventually, I got Soth up there - the Beholder slid him into melee, he attacked twice, and got slid back without AoOs. The second time I tried this, Soth critted on his weak second attack - 50 damage forced morale, and with Soth's Aura of Fear, the Balor split. I caught a break there, since I think the Balor would've beat me down if I'd had to try to kill it outright.
His kills: Steel Pred, Chraal
Last match: DJ (Assault again, I think) Epic Rikka, Elmnster, Archmage x2, PDK, Satyr on Lost Temple
Again, no tile grabbing allowed me to focus on the carnage. He used Pipes to win first initiative, d-doored El to my start area, and caught almost everyone in Silver Fire. Then an AM beat A-M Eye to put an acid arrow on Soth. My HH, Pred and IG piled on Elminster while Chraal, DC and HBG moved up to fight Rikka. It came to a slugfest with me piling on Rikka while his AMs were mostly neutralized by A-M Eye and Spell Resistance. He d-doored an AM to my side of the fight to try to banish Steel Pred - made A-M check, but Pred made its save. Then Soth got slid up to base the pesky AM, hit with his first attack, and (once again) critted with his second for the kill. Rikka, meanwhile, had missed 3 consecutive Conceal checks on the DC, which was a huge break for me. When his PDK finally arrived with his fear cone, both of our bands made all of their saves. Rikka's low AC meant she eventually went down, even though I was consistently rolling 1's on my second attacks. The only critter I lost was my Chraal.
We had about 14 players, and a good time (with Epic Mordy cards) was had by all. The repainted Dolgaunt Monk looks pretty sweet, too. I didn't get a close look at what everyone else was playing. I noticed John the elder had 2 Huge Reds, and two other players each had Fomorians - I think those were the only Huges. Gunthar and Matt both played Epic Mordy - Gunthar with a Marut, 2 Couatls and such.

| I went in with this band:
Mordenkainen (Epic) Couatl x2 Marut HOUND ARCHON Dwarf Artificer Lantern Bearer Standard Bearer
I went with the Tomb of Queen Peragrine over the Lost Temple because of LoS options yet having cover vs. Beholders. It would have been nice to have better options to blast an opponants entire force first turn, but Beholders show up en force in our area so I also swapped out the Sword Archon I originally had in for the Marut and Standard Bearer. F8 and an "extra" +1 on initiatives and Morale Saves was not worth the anti-Behoilder construct I felt.
I went 3-1, only losing in Plunder by being unable to stop A from getting 100 tile points on Queren Peregrine in the last round.
The Hound Archon was my boy. By being my Dimension-Dooring target, he allowed me to get off both Chain Lightnings first round in each game even when I didn't have LoS or faced Beholders. Otherwise, he was a tile grabber, which my band otherwise sorely lacked.
Round 1 vs. Squirrel Boy:
This was an interesting match vs. Regular Elminster, PDK, Archmage, Rikka (Epic), Satyr, etc. First-turn initiative was big, probably game big. I won. He had Rikka placed in the victory area exposed to Mordy's starting area. It was generally a nice blocker for first-turn blasting. I rolled the Hound Archon out from the his right (my left) starting area, catching that nice, thin LoS to right in front of El, PDK, Archmage. Then, Mordy rolled around from the right, nice diagonal to the Hound Archon, and BOOM! Smoked the PDK IIRC, and damaged the archmage an EL heavily. He then DD'd El in to my starting area and fear coned my right-side remnants. The Artificer and(of course) Marut stayed, but that Couatl fled. El Died shortly to the Marut and Rikka didn't last long either as she's relatively squishy when being nailed twice per round by the Marut, etc.
Round 2 vs. Victor:
Victor was running Lord Soth, Beholder x3, Gauth, Dark Naga, Ghostly Consort x2. He hadn't seen my opening salvo last round, so he "buried" all three Beholders and Soth to the one side, the Naga, Gauth and Consorts to the other. He won first turn initiative and rolled the consorts forward to block. I had decided to go after the Beholders. Hound Archon out, around, and down, Mordy with the double blast catching all three. I kept Mordy back most of the game in the B Victory area working angles and sniping at the Gauth and Naga when possible. The Marut, Standard Bearer, and Couatls went forward. This one dragged out in teh middle for a few rounds. He slowed my Couatl and was able to slide him a few times and my Couatl (s) kept failing their anti-magic eye roll for Snake's Swiftness. Thanks to the original blasts, though, I was finally able to eliminate the Beholders after having the Gauth run across the board before saving.
Round 3 vs. A in Plunder:
He ran Death Slaad (Epic), Bugbear Chamipon of Urethra, Fomorian, Frost Giant, Gravehound, Troglodyte and a couple Cursed Spirits. I had a choice, blast his Slaad, Frost Giant fodder. In Hindsight, I should have let him have the map and used the Lost Temple. As it was, I had a choice to make:
1. Blast his Death Slaad, Frost Giant and one fodder piece, missing the Troglodyte and not going after the Bugbear Champ, Fomorian and Gravehound on the other side.
2. Use the Hound Archon and get the Trog too, forgoing tile points.
3. Blast the Fomorian, Gravehound and Bugbear Champion.
I decided on #1, even though blasting the Bugbear would have meant no Magic Weapon on the Fomorian, requiring three vs. two hits to kill my Marut. Still, I wanted that Death Slaad and could hit two hitters with no Hound Archon lost, so I went with #1. In Hindsight, this was a mistake, but not because of the Fomorian as much as the Gravehound.
I had one critical round in teh middle of the board with his Trog Activating within 6 of Standard Bearer taking | | Champion of Prit(Wemic vindication is here) Minneapolis/St. Paul area Completed trades: Aspect of Cheese (Love that moniker), Tickparasite, Elderthing, Lalato, Sodj, Grimoire, SmilinIrish, Zeb, RWarehall,Link, wikkawikkawa, Auramancer, Rommers, HK, Ivid5,Qillan_dvra, Puggins, Arcabius, Ironfist Boulderbender, Robby, Corim Danex, monster_slayer, DNDJUNKIE, Kelemvor, Krush, ckissee, Massawyrm, hockey fan, Wish, Uninspiring Lieutenant, vtloon x2, Vrecknidj, Darthpoke, WakeXX, AnarionZell, lycusmike, papabear5 and umpteen local trades with board members

| I went 3-1 (one was a kind of bye) with an unusual band:
Death Slaad (non-epice) x2 Eye of Gruumsh Ryld LRD Fomorian cursed spirit Roper (yes, the roper)
The all star of the day was the cursed spirit. It is able to block the beholders very well. I put it in for the -2 to save, and I think I only ever used it for blocking beholders and for getting tile points in the 4th match (which were the difference for me).
My only loss was to a triple steel/beholder band with 2 MFT. The MFT trapped me in my start area in round one, but since I had 4 commanders, I was still able to spread out. My roper blocked one of the lanes for the steels, and newtoncain was a little conservative as he didn't want his steels to get stuck by the roper's ability to stop minis. I was too conservative and didn't just rush my Fomorian out there and start beating. In the end, I lost the roper, and he lost a wolf skeleton. I routed a steel on the last roll, but as we both thought, it was about 4 squares from being able to rout off the board.
My next match was against triple beholders. I got the cursed spirit out there, and he just keep sliding it around. The match came down to a "1" that he rolled while attacking the eye with Soth. Had that hit, he could have cleaved into my LRD, and i would have been in big trouble. As it was, I was able to lay the serious hurt on Soth with the Eye and the LRD, and his beholders never had the chance to heal soth. Also lucky for me, the roper set up right next to his start area, and trapped minis back there for at least 2 rounds. But, nothing would have been good for me without that 1.
My last match was against Newtoncain's son, who has beaten my 2 or 3 times in a row. He was running an Epic Marut, LSD, coutal..., but the round was plunder and I got over 250 tile points to his zero. Without those, there is no way I could have won the match. After I killed his last commander, I hid behind the smoke. He routed my LRD on the last round, but I was 2 squares away from being able to exit (I was pretty sure I was far enough away that it wouldn't rout).
The schock on your opponent's face when you play a roper, and the fear they have of being stuck somewhere is definitely worth it. | | Fastest dropping DCI ranking on record! Champion of Juiblex

| There is no pre-release.
There is an event at Dreamer's, but it is a release event. It will be on Sunday the 5th. I'll post more after I talk to the owner of the store.
MD does not, for some reason that no one can figure out, have a release event this set. No one is happy about that. | | Fastest dropping DCI ranking on record! Champion of Juiblex

Everyone got a repaint and Mody epic card.
Next tourney is 3/4/06 @ 11am sharp, 200pt constructed.
Somebody please run this one.
This is not a pre-release/release. I wish I knew why WotC gave the MD the SHAFT.[:(] | | They just don't know what's good in life...Conan, tell them what is good in life. To rip the boosters. To count the minis spilled out before you, and to hear the indifference of the women...

| | Newtoncain has a new job, and works on Saturdays. We are discussing the possibility of moving to Sundays, but that is hard to do for anyone that wants to go to church on that day (like my wife, errr, me). Also, someone else needs to judge for awhile so Newtoncain can play more. | | Fastest dropping DCI ranking on record! Champion of Juiblex | |

| Newt - thanks for posting the tourney times... too bad you wont be able to make it reguraraly.
I wish MD had a release event for wardrums... much nicer venue, ,with a LOT more room. That, and MD actually runs DDM events every other week, ,not just pre-release and qual events. makes no sense to me... | | Champion of Remorhaz, and the Mighty Goblin Frog Riders

Thanks, I'm going to try to keep up to date posting for the MD tournies here. I had them all logged into their website for the next 4 months. Then the calendar crashed and I don't have admid access anymore.
