| In case people are wondering, the Triad order is:
Round 1: Assault Round 2: Assault with Cave of Pain Round 3: Assault with Bounty
In addition to the standard Assault format in each round, in Round 2, melee and ranged attacks (not spells or special abilities) deal +5 dmg. In round 3, every mini you eliminate gives you +10 victory points. Creatures with Beneath Contempt are still worth ZERO though.
Full rules are at: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dci/doccenter/home
Scroll down to the Dungeons and Dragons Miniatures Floor Rules. Although the newest maps from the Fields of Ruin Fantastic Location are not in the floor rules, I believe they are indeed legal now.

| Is it just me, or did LCS have an unfavorable matchup in all three games?
Congratulations on the wins.

Yep. LCS is just a good player.
What's worse is that I killed LCS' CoDA after round 2, so things looked even worse for him. But because of marked target and tile points, LCS was able to kill my Marut and win on points. My Aspect was completely untouched. I had also routed off one Justice Archon. A couple lucky rolls and he took out the Marut. In retrospect, if I had led with my Aspect, I think things woulda been different.
We both made mistakes, but LCS was in huge trouble against my band until he was able to get a flank and a couple hits. Rolling 20 and 19 to hit my Marut with Justice Archons and then also getting rust construct on it to lower the AC to 21 and then just hitting that AC barely with the Slayer sealed the deal.
I don't mean to diminish LCS' acheivement at all; he outplayed me when it counted. But just confirming that the match definitely was a bad matchup for LCS and going even worse for him as the game progressed but he pulled it out and quickly snatched victory away from me. | | Champion of Neogi

| I wouldn't underestimate LCS's band. There is a reason why he did so well with it in the recent California Open. In the game we played, I made a tactical mistake which left my HBG overexposed. He capitalized on that mistake. Had I not made that mistake, the result would have been determined by luck of the dice. I think his band is a decent match-up against triple or quad chraal.
I wasn't counting the bounty points in my match with LCS. If I had, my tactics would have changed and I would have pulled my HBG back far earlier, as I would have been guaranteed a victory due to the bounty points for having killed a justice archon and a few other weenies. I think my tactics in a repeat match would be quite different.
In my match against Jeff, I made a huge mistake on turn 1 by not sending one of my chraals around to the back side of his troops. That mistake haunted me. Regardless, he just consistnely beat me down and refused to fail any
In the match against Elliott, He dealth with the problem of having two slow titans on three chraals: All those breath weapons and explosions add up. He played well ... the marut just couldn't handle all of that automatic damage, especially when it failed those saves.
I was disappointed that I consistently forgot that we were playing triad. I didn't incoporate the cave of pain damage against Elliott (although I don't think it would have changed the outcome of the game) and, as discussed above, I forgot to incorporate the bounty points against LCS.
I had fun, but it was another night where play mistakes haunted me. You can't make play mistakes against good players, and all 3 of the guys I played are good players. | | Champion of Meepo _*_ Myztek on the Wizards Boards. _*_ (2206 DDM on 03/06/06) Please note: The use of the indicates an attempt at humor ... often a bad attempt. | Sounds like we should start to fear LCS. In another topic it was mentioned that LCS likes to mix things up. He continually runs warbands that you wouldn't expect and they do pretty well. Congrats to LCS on a great win. Had I been there, Feathers wouldn't have gone 0-3. [:P] | | Gehenna | |

| Not really [:)]
I think you missed the tournament with the Ghaele Eladrin "experiment" (Ghaele, Voice of Battle, Large Air Elem., + Wild Elf / Xeph fodder), around the time when everyone was talking about how Quad Horror and GAS were nearly unbeatable, where I proceeded to get slaughtered in all three matches by two Duergar bands and a CE beater band.
At the last Saturday Endgame tournament, I learned that running dual Hill Giant Barbarians with a commander 2 but without the wardrummer (so that I could fit in a choker and get nine activations) is... um... unreliable (to put it mildly).
Around the time Angelfire came out, there was also my unhealthy obsession with bringing the Halfling Ranger into all my LG bands with the Cleric of Yondalla (thankfully, fully cured now that we have the Warforged Scout).
Running bands that people don't expect: yes... doing pretty well with said bands: not so much. [)]
I think the reason the Slayer band I've been using lately works well for me because it plays to one of my strengths.
I know I'm getting better, but I still make significant errors constantly. I also have a tendency to employ very risky tactics, like putting my commander in harms way to protect my hitters from Ray of Enfeeblement, for example [:)].
If I had to pick one aspect of the game that I am particularly good at, I would say that it is figuring out ways that I can put myself in a position where --with a little bit of luck, or in some cases, with a lot of luck-- I still have a chance to win even with the odds significantly stacked against the remaining figures in my warband.
Depending on how you play it, the Slayer can be a very high risk / high reward kind of piece. Not everyone is going to be comfortable with that style of play. For me though, as long as the Slayer is still in the game, the marked target ability (or sometimes just the threat of it) often gives me the edge I need to have a chance to squeak out a victory.
In cases where the match starts out going well for me, if I manage to get off a solid marked target kill, it also provides a buffer against mistakes I might make in the later rounds of the match. Every point from the bonus is one less point of my opponent's figures that I need to kill to get the win. At the same time, if I can manage to keep either the Slayer or the CoDA alive, that will usually prevent my opponent from winning outright on points unless they have managed to kill nearly everything else in my warband.
It's not something that is going to work for everyone, but it's a band that fits my playing style better than most of the other builds I have tried.
I'll try to get some comments about my matches typed up and posted sometime in the next few days, but no promises...

| Louis: Something to keep in mind regarding mistakes ...
There are an incredibnle number of ways to make mistakes in DDM ... you're bound to make them. Making mistakes is not a sign that yo're no a great player.
The thing to focus on is how many mistakes you make ... and you make few. You are a very good player.
