| So we had our weekly thursday tournament and it was finally time for 200 pts again. We had a nice turnout of 14 players. I'm guessing a bit on some of the round by round matchups, maybe some of the others will drop on by to fix any mistakes and fill in the last couple bands.

| Preliminaries:
I decided to play LE again. I like LE in that they have a very nice variety of 30-40ish pt minis that can serve a variety of purposes. Back in the earlier days I liked CE for similar reasons when they had the eye and the champ and the red samurai and ogre ravager, but that's kinda old and while oldies can still be goodies I wanted to try something newer. Last month I had played a human blackguard with two chraals, a duergar champion and efreeti. I determined that trying to keep the blackguard alive was kinda stressful, so no chraals this time. The two zakya rakshasas would be nice against maruts, and duergar champions are just all around solid is not spectacular figures. But I definitely wanted some cleavage to go with those slapping hands. so that left me 20 or so pts of filler and 3 activations to fill out. The large duergar made a nice tile grabber killer, and the goblins were activations. I thought about warrior skeletons but went with the skirmishers. I figured I'd be in trouble against hill giant barbarians, but it seems like pretty much everything has at least one bad matchup these days.
Round 1 against Mike Jackson (jacksonm)
With the two helmed horrors I was glad to see to see commander 0. I managed to get map and side initiative and chose the fire area of my dragon shrine. He had me outactivated with snig's minions, but his zakya and two horrors were outnumbered by my two duergars, two zakyas, and the rakshasa himself who can add some nice damage if you can get an opponent to fail the slapping hand save.
I think he won first round initiative, but we all just moved out. I spread out my two skirmishers so that they couldn't both be bwed in round two, and double moved the rakshasa onto my victory area right by the statue of tiamat. My two duergar and zakya spread out in a screen to hopefully occupy the horrors. He moved the gravehound into the shared victory area near the exit, mwed one horror and moved the two horrors up. The green dragon went towards the (cold?) resistant victory area.
Round 2 he won initiative and charged the gravehound at a duergar. He hit for 5 damage but I made the stun save. He then moved a skirmisher on the cold shrine victory area. I moved a duergar to flank the gravehound and hit for 15, then slapped it with the rak to get the killing blow. He moved his zakya to threaten my goblin skirmisher next round, but I moved the second duergar so that he had to move around the duergar taking aoo and it would then be 9 squares to base the skirmisher, so no killing him. I double moved my large duergar onto the VA that the rak had just vacated. He double moved both helmed horrors after mwing the second one, one basing the undamaged duergar, the other a zakya.
I think he won initiative on round 3, and used the green dragon to kill the skirmisher that was on the fire shrine, but instead of then moving to base the other skirmisher he moved to base the rakshasa. He then swung twice with a horror but missed both times. I then moved the surviving skirmisher onto the fire shrine to protect me from the other horror. My duergar attacked the unactivated horror and hit one (maybe twice). He then retaliated with the horror and missed twice, again. My zakyas put a hurting on his other horror (except I think I rolled a 1 on a truestrike) and my large duergar also hit for 20 damage. I took an aoo from the green dragon with my rak to slap a horror and move onto the VA that the large duergar had vacated, but he made the slap save. My wounded DC put 15 damage on his green dragon iirc and then his zakya truestriked that duergar.
I think I won initiative on round four and slapped the horror that was based by like two zakyas and the large duergar. He failed the save and took a nice chunk of damage. Then activated one of the zakya rakshasas and killed the horror. He flew his green dragon back to kill the goblin skirmisher, but having killed one horror and wounded another I wasn't too worried. His horror then managed to hit the duergar twice. I swung twice on his zakya with my DC hitting twice iirc. My duergar then hit another attack in his horror and he attacked a couple times with skirmishers and such. I think his DMM also magic weaponed the green dragon.
Round five was our last round I think (or maybe we played 6) but I think not. I routed his zakya with a duergar and then moved that duergar to base a skirmisher and horror. Slapped the skirmisher, killed it, cleaved into the horror. He retaliated with the horror and the green dragon breathed on a bunch of stuff. The DC that had taken 30 damage failed the subsequent morale save and took another 15 from the horror aoo. My two zakya went after snig. The first missed, but the second hit. Snig failed morale and died on the aoo. This meant the routing zakya couldn't rally, and my large duergar smashed the skirmisher.
Final score ended up 162-56 as all I lost were two skirmishers and we both scored tile points each round.

Round 2 vs Chris Love (Omand)
Chris had a marut, and yet another CR 0. How nice. No sacred watchers for me to chill touch though. I can't remember who won setup init (we both had dragon shrine, so map init was a moot pt), but I started off in the fire area again.
He really only had 6 activations with that squad activation going on. Nothing much happened round 1 we both moved out. He had his warforged scout in the cold shrine victory and I again put my rakshasa on the victory by tiamat's statue. I probably should've sent my large duergar to go thump his warforged scout, but I didn't.
Round two I won initative, and this allowed me to move like 4 guys at the end of the round. He moved the marut and placed the axe soldiers in front. The dwarf artificer cast GMW on the marut, and the combat medic failed an SR roll on a zakya with a searing light. I moved a duergar champion to base the axe soldier and marut, then the 2nd duergar to base the axe soldier. The two zakyas chill touched the axe soldier, setting me up for a slapping hand, but he made the save rolling a 17. boo.
Round three I slapped the axe soldier and this time he failed the save. Duergar #1 hit him for 15, duergar #2 killed him and cleaved into the marut. The marut then swung at the rak and hit for 20 (yay for stealing CFX) and the couatl used a snake swiftness and he hit the duergar for 20 iirc. I had one zakya attack the remaining axe soldier, although I didn't like wasting the truestrike. I think the soldier made morale, but couldn't hit back. I then slid a duergar up to kill the axe soldier and cleave into the marut, managing to put another 30 damage on the marut thanks to the duergar and a truestrike. The large duergar swung at the couatl but missed.
Next round he managed to force morale on the duergar, but he saved, and then the marut critted a zakya killing him. D'oh. But I managed to hit with each duergar once and that meant no more marut. Then it was a simple matter to swarm the couatl and slap it. It failed the save and took various hits, failing morale and getting killed on a crit from the large duergar. Yay!
He conceeded given that I still had two duergar and a zakya and only needed to kill the combat medic or dwarf artificer to win on points. Score at the end woulda been 183 to 76 or so.

Round 3 vs Paula
Paula only had 5 activations, and with all my mediums I wasn't too worried. The ballista wasn't gonna be too big a threat with all the walls on the dragon shrine (I won map init again) and the justicator was only gonna hit me for 15. The Cleric of Dol Arrah could've been a problem what with the dismissal spell and all my outsiders, but it was all good.
Round 1 we moved out (I started on the fire shrine for the third time). I got tile pts, she didn't.
Round 2 she moved the ballista into the open and the justicator forward. I sent a duergar champion to base the ballista and moved a zakya and duergar champion to attack the justicator, hitting both times. The large duergar also hit iirc but the justicator made morae. At +17 this wasn't a surprise. I think the couatl sonic orbed the duergar basing the ballista for 15 damage and the justicator made its slap save. Too bad. The 2nd zakya moved in to flank the justicator.
She won init round 3 and hit something twice for 30 damage with the justicator and charged the duergar with the coda. I retaliated by killing the justicator and putting some damage on the ballista. She then dropped the lightning sphere, hitting my duergar and a zakya, but also her ballista and coda. I think everything made the save, the ballista took no damage, coda took 10, duergar took 10 (out of range of zakya) and made morale, and the zakya made the save and took no damage. I then slapped the coda and it failed and got mauled by a zakya and two duergar. The last duergar killed the coda and cleaved into the ballista.
Round 4 saw me finish off the ballista at which point she conceeded. I was up something like 190-0.

So with 14 people we had two 3-0 players but due to us having a number of younger players we don't have time for a fourth round unfortunately, gotta get to bed by 10 or 10:30. I ended up pulling a warbound impaler in my booster. Now to figure out what to play for the 1000 pt game tomorrow.
On a side note, all three people I played finished 2-1. | |
