| Sorry my friend posted here. Can a mod move this to Tournaments?
Anyway. I played Kevizoid (Kevin Cleveland) in the 4th matchup. Bad dice and failing every save (for anything that I need to save for) for my Monks ended my experience today. Two games where every monk routs and can't hit for there rounds makes it sort of hard to win. GAS wasn't strong enough to win here today, at least not with my crappy rolls. Guess I should have gone with something atypical. Live and learn.
So Dagni (Robert Hatch) is doing well and playing the guy that beat me in the second round (Kevin Benjovsky). Guy (Fullerton) is playing the guy that I beat in the second round (Marco Terrazas) and is one HH down. David Klaman and Dwayne Stupack are playing Couatl/Kord/Ballista vs. Archmage. Grasshoff just won against against his 4ht round opponent.
More to come.

| Well Dagni just beat Tried again. Weird game, things happened that I wouldn't have done but it's always different as a spectator. I'll let Tried and Dagni post their own thoughts on it. Grasshoff just beat ZeroKnight barely at the end of the game by just a few points. So we have Dagni vs. Grasshoff for the finals.

Yeah interestingly enough it was slow and pretty much just eventually went and sat in Victory Areas. I think because it was a Monitor Lizard and not a Timber Wolf people just sort of ignored it.

| Well, the CoDA/Couatl/AoK is now on the loose. And here I was hoping not to face 10 of them in Niles.
[:(]
I am really impressed by the variety of bands that filled out the rest of the top spots though. Excellent playing all!

Robert, after watching a few of your games, especially against Dwayne, I found your play to be very calculating and percise. It's as though your thinking several moves ahead, but allways making the best move possible. Even when using pieces like the commoner.
I had a great time and I finally got to meet Dagni, Tried, Robbdaman, and of course Guy, as well as others. Thanks for all the help Dwayne and good luck in Co.

Heh, and the fact that you know each other's thoughts so well could be part of it. I wasn't the only one that saw things done and moves made we thought we're odd. Might be that your play styles are different or as you said you know what the other is thinking so that would effect your options and moves you'd make. I'll akin it to chess where a gambit could be looking several turns ahead. That's why I was hoping to see what you WERE thinking. It's not like I can ask you or Dwayne in the middle of a finals match what you're doing something for. [)]

| Both matches against rob were played on the Drow Outpost.
While not a terrible map for the Mage, the fact that Kord can double move 20 and get in an attack with a SS means there can be trouble from a number of different directions.
In each game, I considered that the best chance for a win was likely to banish Kord. He is the meat of Robert's band, and his offense is pretty limited without it. (Aside - plus, it is really funny to save a sword or two to put on Dol Arrah and watch him struggling to heal himself and stay alive for a few rounds. Its just really funny. I think my particular AM figure might not actually be CG).
Anyway, Kord is saving at +10, I thought I might have gotten at least one banish off on him. No luck. (well, my rolls were really bad game 1, but improved in game 2 to about average, and I even got one critical hit). It might help folks to know that this is the third time in three weeks these two bands have faced off, and variant but similar bands faced each other in Utah. (In the exact matchup, rob is now up 2-1.) Last couple tourneys, Rob's dice can do no wrong.
In the second match, I could have killed the bodyguard round 1, but this would require using a swift action. This may have been a mistake, but I calculated that if I could init next round, I had a chance to kill him anyway. Losing the deterent effect of the Swift spell was a gamble I decided not to take.
In both, I used my GMAs early to flood the bridge with figures. These were very key in leveraging position. In the second game, as I already pointed out, things could have been different if I could have won init in any round. Ah well. Next time...

Nah, you're both looking at it wrong. It's what happens when a tournament basically goes N+2 rounds. After all, we barely had more than 16 players, so we didn't really need a 5th round, much less a 6th! Given two extra rounds, I daresay whoever got first after swiss was liable to've played and beat most everyone near the top, otherwise how would that person have gotten first?
As far as being the one that got first, that's a testament to something, but not necessarily my playskill. They say that good players make their own luck. Well, I must've found a way to mass-produce it, because I had an overabundance of luck throughout the tournament. It was awesome.

Well, I'll certainly post a tourney report sooner or later. However, not only does a tourney report get really long really fast the more you try to explain what you did and why, but that also means the report gets written slower, possibly over more days, which means that less details even get remembered, much less explained.
On that specific game, I don't know what moves on my side might've puzzled you, but if you assume that the main strategic goal of all of my moves in the first couple rounds was to keep the Archmage from having ANY way of getting off an early banish on Kord, it might explain most of my moves. For example, there was one point when I figured out where I wanted each of my commoners to go, but then counted out one of them, and couldn't get where I wanted. The goal of the moves was to prevent Kord from being nearest target after moving where he wanted. Rather than attack the juicy target of Rikka, I had to attack Devis with Kord (near end of round 2, must've been) because that one extra square would've exposed Kord to the banish I was trying to play around. (the first time in three games that I tried to play around it. It worked surprisingly well, and turned out to not matter, as I passed the save late in the game.)
