| Quick report from yesterdays festivities.
Turn out was 6 people
Me (sean) with ... drumroll
2 x Gulgar Dwarf Artificer Couatl Cleric of Order Mialee Elf Hooker Warforged Scout Timber Wolf
Shane: CG FrenziedB (??) - Map ? Aaron: Inspired 3 x Frenzied 2 x Xeph EW - Map Dragon Shrine Logan: 3 HH Snig, Kobold Sorcerer, Miner, Ochre Jelly - Map Kings Keep Other Sean: Ulmo, Sacred Watcher, Couatl, filler - Map ? Jason: CG blend, Wand Expert, 2 x WF Barb, Renegade W, Copper Sam., Xephs - Map Broken Demongate
First round versus Jason on Broken Demongate:
I setup on the Good Guys Side he setup in hell.
Being a Gulgar is tough because you are fat and slow. My basic strategy was to pump their anemic ranged attacks with GMW and a soothing back massage from Mialee. BD has good sight lines so I thought I could get a couple of shots off before engaging in the choke point. We spend a couple of rounds buffing up our dudes (him with blur, me with greater resist and MW). Eventually I got 3 shots on his Xeph which was trying to reach the Magic Circle VA. I missed them all. He plinked a Gulgar with a Eldritch Spear and a splash of acid. Eventually the Couatl nerfed the Wand Expert and the Renegade had to speed off to take on a Timber Wolf which had navigated it's way over to the far left VA. I got a few more shots off and injured the WFB. Eventually time was called and the score was something sad like 25 - 10. I think Jason was hesistant to engage with those beaters. Gulgar is a pretty intimidating dude so I can understand. As a Gulgar pilot you generally can't be the aggresor because of the pitiful speed of the grey man.
Second Round versus Aaron on Dragon Shrine:
Against Triple Frenzied I figured my only hope would be a couple of timely missed against my sturdy AC. Aaron didn't miss with any of his swings and eventually snuck a FB through who to my Couatl -- who promptly got critted for 60 and removed from Earth.
Third Round versus Logon on the Kings Keep:
Early rounds were spent with both of us buffing, and with me buffing while shooting at the Ochre Jelly in the VA. He had setup first and I put my WFS over in his grill to try to kill a couple of Skirmishers. This failed, I couldn't roll over a 10 on 4 swings ... eventually he took out a couple of Skirmishers but in retrospect I shouldn't have been so paranoid about the Jelly and put the Scout in the VA. This put me down on VP early and would force me to be a little more aggressive then I needed to be. Eventually the fight ended up near my starting area and the VA. I did a good amount of damage to two HH, one of whom got rusted. The turning point in the match was a greater resisted Couatl with a CoO failing morale. This boosted the HH damage back up and I lost the SS which was working well with Gulgars. Anyway, eventually I lost the CoO all my fodder, and finally as time expired the Couatl. Didn't lose a Gulgar though :)
So there it is. Gulgar is really slow but pretty tough. Certain maps doom him. Thats all, maybe in two weeks I'll bring a real band like ... Inspired Grey Men.
