| I learned a valuable lesson tonight...
I went 1-2 with the warband I went 2-1 with last week. Soth, Predator, War Skellie and T-Wolf on Hellspike (last week I had the Drowpost).
First match vs Jack (Skip?) He had the Orog, Dark Naga and some aberrations, and between the Blast and Roar, he lost everything. I only lost the Warrior Skellie by using him as the focus for my Blast.
Second match vs Herb (Helzapoppin) on Dragon Shrine HBG, DCx2, Zakx2, Gobbos Pretty close match pointswise. In the end it was Soth vs one Doogie and the Blackguard. Had Soth hit one more time, the Doogie would have died and I'd have won on points.
Third match vs Scott Couatl, Marut, SWx3, Aramil, Mialee, SB Here's where the lesson came in. Everything went my way at the beginning of the match - I got my map, he set up just where I wanted him to, and I won first turn initiative. My Roar and Blast routed his Couatl, did 35 on the Marut, washed harmlessly over the SWs (damn Incorp!) and destroyed his tech support before they could blink.
Important lesson: a routing Couatl on the Hellspike doesn't make it off the map. That fact alone makes this already gimmicky band completely unplayable on the Hellspike. I'm lucky if I rout the Coautl on the first turn; I can't count on being lucky enough for him to miss the rally attempt as well.
I may try this band out some more on Drow Outpost, but it's looking like the basic idea (reduce enemy activations to match my own) is going to be too hard to pull off against good players.

| Any good player, when faced with a band able to dish out a couple of high-damage area effects (be it Soth/Steel Pred or Death Slaads or an LRD's fire breath), is going to scatter his band and throw fodder in your way as much as possible.
BTW, our second-round match was in Dungeon of Blood, not Dragon Shrine -- and you forgot the Hell Hound in my band (not that it did much besides score tile points and annoy Soth).
You were as effective as you could be, given my scattering. The Roar hit only the two Zakyas (one saved & took 20, the other didn't but made Morale), and by targeting your skeleton with the Abyssal Blast you caught both Duergar (both saved) and one poor Goblin cowering behind a crystal pillar.
I scored tile points every turn (in part because Soth parked himself on the altar victory area, which allowed me to score points and fight), which made the difference.
Yours can be a scary band, but by the third round you're down to two activations, so even if you succeed in reducing the enemy warband, they'll still have activation control on you. On the plus side, Soth's Commander 6 will win a majority of Initiatives...on the minus side, +11/+6 is a terrible attack bonus for 98 points. | | Champion of Iconics & the Apparatus of Kwalish (Constructs with Drivers? | Hmmm....interesting band i would almost want to try Human Black guard with the Soth even though i lose the AoE of the fireball the Predator can get +4 to rally and it allows another hitter or two
Sounds fun and glad it worked decently (steel predator is definetly the coolest "One-Trick-Pony" out there [:)]) | | PS. This is what the alphabet would look like if Q and R were removed

| Only problem with pairing the Blackguard and Predator is the speed difference (10 to 4).
Perhaps a Predator and Skullsplitter? You still get the Tyrannical Morale, but the 'Splitter has speed 6, and you still have 78 points for beaters and fodder...fill the ranks with constructs and undead (so the Commander 2 doesn't hurt anyone else), and you have...
28 Skullsplitter 94 Steel Predator 45 Helmed Horror 25 Flameskull 05 Timber Wolf or Skeletal Archer 03 Warrior Skeleton
200 points, 6 activations (which still sux, but...)
Or trade the HH and Wolf for two more Flameskulls, and hope that the Roar and 3(!) Fireballs manage to kill enough of the enemy for you to win on points. | | Champion of Iconics & the Apparatus of Kwalish (Constructs with Drivers? Brilliant!) Dungeons of Dread Called Shot: Yeah, right
