| | I used to date a girl from Bloomington. She was down here going to school. She was umm... very nice :D. Anyways, I'll see what I can do about maybe getting a few locals to go up on a road trip one weekend for one of your local tournies. | | Champion of the Aspect of Damage

That would be great, Jerry. Is there a pre-release closer to you?

| | Yeah, we've got one in Richmond. I'm going to the one at Origins on Friday and then I've actually got a family thing on Saturday I have to go to so I'll miss our local prerelease. I'll keep a watch for more some of your other tournies there in Bloomington though and will try to get a group to come up and play. | | Champion of the Aspect of Damage

| Apparently, I caused a couple heart-attacks by declaring that "spots are filling up" [}:)] As of today, there are 25 people pre-registered, and there are 25 spots left.
But I happen to know 26 people who are going to try to pre-register tomorrow morning.
I'm kidding.
Pre-register today! | | | |

| Well, I just got back from the pre-release, and I had a great time. We had around 30 players, and I ended up in 3rd or 4th. I'm not sure which it was because I didn't get to see the results from the computer. Anyhoo, we played 4 Swiss rounds and then cut to top 8.
My rare pulls were War Weaver and Hobgoblin Talon of Tiamat. My huge pulls were Bluespawn Godslayer and Purple Worm. I didn't get any other hitters. So, I ended up running Purple Worm, Bluespawn Godslayer, Yuan-Ti Halfblood Sorcerer, Warden of the Wood, War Weaver, Small Black Dragon, War Ape, and Hunting Hyena on Field of Ruin.
My first opponent ran Purple Worm, Mountain Troll, Cadaver Collector, and filler. I won map init. My Purple Worm nerfed his Mountain Troll, and the Warden of the Wood protected Barney from a similar fate. A first round Briar Web slowed everything down, and I was ahead on VPs the whole game. It was a close one, but I squeaked out a win.
My second opponent ran Huge Fiendish Spider x2, Mountain Troll, and I think Demonic Gnoll Archer. I won map init. Again, Neutralize Poison came in quite handy, and the Purple Worm cut down the damage output of the Troll. I took down the Troll, Called Lightning on the Gnoll, and mopped up the Spiders after that.
My third opponent was Bleys, who has been kicking my tail a little too often for my taste [)] He ran Eldritch Giant, epic Slaughterstone Eviscerator, Blackspawn Exterminator, Doom Fist Monk, Azer Fighter, Small Black Dragon, Tavern Brawler, and Aasimar Fighter. I won map init. His giant got in trouble early, but he took the AoO and teleported out. From there, I just couldn't hit the Eviscerator, and I spent too much time chasing lower point figures. That thing is tough. Bleys went on to win the tourney, and he handed my my first defeat.
My fourth opponent ran Tundra Scout, Greenspawn Razorfiend, Dragonborn Fighter, Goliath Cleric of Kavaki, Bonded Fire Summoner, Hunting Hyena, and Cleric of Syreth. For the fourth time, I won map init. I nerfed the Tundra Scout early, and Barney took care of business. Though my Purple Worm failed morale, it rallied, and the game went my way quickly. With another win, I ended Swiss in third place.
I played Netherworlder in the first round of eliminations. He ran epic Griffon Cavalry, Sorcerer on Black Dragon, Blackguard on Nightmare, Diseased Dire Rat, Demonic Gnoll Archer, Hunting Hyena, and Tavern Brawler on Tomb of Queen Peregrine. I lost map init for the first time. I was able to block the Cavalry charges with low cost figures, and then it got locked in combat with my Purple Worm, which nerfed it eventually. Barney harrassed the Sorcerer, the Worm and friends killed the Blackguard, my Small Black Dragon denied Netherworlder victory points, and I won a very close game on points.
My next match was against Bleys again, and the results weren't much different. I lost map init for the second time. I couldn't go toe-to-toe with the Eviscerator, and I couldn't run because the Giant was mobile enough to dimension door, kill some stuff, and dimension door out. Bleys also denied my victory points for the entire game. Well done, my friend!
So, I ended up in third or fourth, and I picked up a booster with a Sorcerer on Black Dragon and a Magma Hurler as double rares! I had a great time. Thanks to the Game Preserve for running a great event, and thanks to all the players.

| Lots of fun yesterday. As johnny.quest mentioned I squeaked out with winning the tournament and going 6-0. I really wasn't sure about my sealed picks, but they turned out doing much better than I anticipated. The Eldritch Giant didnt miss any MC's without a commander and only failed two poison checks (I faced 3 huge spiders and 3 purple worms). The piece of the day was definitely the epic Slaughterstone Eviscerator, what a great piece for the cost. I will try to write a more detailed tourny description and what I pulled later when I have some more time. Thanks to Jessica and James for running a great event.
My pulls on Saturday: Hobgoblin Talon of Tiamat* Slaughterstone Eviscerator* Eldritch Giant* Tundra Scout* Demonic Gnoll Archer Small Black Dragon Wererat Rouge Blackspawn Exterminator Doom Fist Monk Witchknife War Ape Twig Blight Whitespawn Hordeling Azer Fighter Tavern Brawler Aasimar Fighter
I decided to go commanderless, not wanting to use 37 points for a +3 to my morale checks. It ended up being the right decision as I was rolling well and did not miss any MC's with important pieces. I chose the extra activation instead of turning one of my 4 pt pieces into a commander. I knew I was going to try and keep the SE infront and hopefully taking the majority of the attacks. With 250 hp and dimension doors, I knew I could afford a couple of AoO's and move if the Giant got into trouble. My build: Eldritch Giant Slaughterstone Eviscerator Blackspawn Exterminator Doom Fist Monk Small Black Dragon Azer Fighter Tavern Brawler Aasimar Fighter map: Tomb of Queen Peregrin
My first match was against Mat. His warband was: Purple Worm, Huge Fiendish Spider, Twig Blight, Cloudreaver, Witchknife, Demonic Gnoll Archer, Goliath Cleric of Kavaki, Cleric of Syreth and Broken Demongate map. He won map init and most init's throughout the game (with no commander a trend was developing). I made both of my poison saves with the giant and was able to route the spider and hammer the purple dragon with the combination of Eldritch Giant and Slaughterstone Eviscerator. Felt very lucky on my saves. 1-0
My second match I faced Alec, and up and coming local player that will be very good with more experience. He was running: Dragonwrought Kobold, Demonic Gnoll Archer, Redspawn Firebelcher, Clawfoot Rider, Hunting Hyena, Mountain Troll, Warden of the Wood and Fiendish Giant Spider on the King's Road. Once again, I lost map init, and most of the inits in the game. I was able to keep my hitters away from his Troll and base his lesser pieces. The Firebelcher was gone before getting one attack or special ability and I took out the clawfoot rider quickly as well. I was up on points and then let him come to me where the Spider and Troll were taken down with little trouble. 2-0
My third match was against Michael Loprete. Michael is on of the top local players and I was worried about his build. He had: Dracolich, Bluespawn Godslayer, Large Green Dragon, Diseased Dire Rat, Azer Fighter, Wererat Rouge, Hunting Hyena and Tavern Brawler on the teleport temple. Michael got out to a quick lead, so I had to play more aggressively than usual. I was able to win two crucial initiatives late in the game where the big boys were based. The 40-5DR damage of the Giant and the 4 attacks at +20 from the Slaughterstone proved too great for the Godslayer. 3-0
My fourth and final swiss match was against my good friend and neighbor, johhny.quest. Johnny already posted about this match, so I wont go into great detail. Every game that we play is competitive and close. I was able to squeak out a victory and end the swiss rounds as one of only two undefeated players. 4-0
In the finals, I faced Alec in the first round again. The results were much the same and I moved on to face JQ again. 5-0 Another close game ensued, and I was able to move on to the finals with a 6-0 record. It was to be a battle of the two undefeateds. We had been there since 11:00am and it was about 8:00pm. It had been a long day and once Stephen realized the prizes were even for 1st and 2nd place, he conceded to get on with his life. That was totally fine with me, because I had to make a 3.5 hour road trip to be with my family at the lakehouse. All in all, a great day!
