| First off I have some pictures from before we went to the Georgia Qualifier. My camera died and I never got around to getting new batteries, so this is all I got.
 Sam's House
 The van we rented.
 Sam, Jim, and myself.
Now for the Florida Qualifier Pictures:
Nick was our only out of state visitor. He ended up going 3-3.
Unity rented a hotel for tournament space. There was a Magic tournament the same day in the other part of the room.
Chatting before the qualifier: (Left to Right) TJ Page, Jim Bok, Mike Smith, Sam Santos (behind Chris), Chris Squires
 Everyone poses for the camera.
The eventual winner, Bud, and his roommate Scarlet.
Morgan, his brother-in-law, and his daughter, Tracy. Tracy plays with us Thursday but did not play in the Qualifier.
Kevin Page. He came in 5th.
My Gith Monks, beautifully repainted by Runelord.
This is the match I lost, vs. Jim. Damn SWarms. I was 1-2 vs. Swarms over the course of the two tournaments.
 Final 4
 Final 4: Bud vs. TJ
 Final 4: Neil vs. Mike
 I concentrate while providing results.
Actual Tournament Report to follow.

| I decided to write it anyway.
Warband: Young Master, 4 Gith Monks, Standard Bearer, 2 Timber Wolves. Map: Teleport Temple
So for the Georgia Qualifier I ran a pretty standard Marut/Couatl/Bodyguard warband with a Sacred Watcher. I still maintain that this was a correct metagame choice despite my poor showing (3rd, with a 4-3 records for the day.) Despite this I had reached the saturation point for running Marut builds, and wanted to branch into something else. This lead me into starting a thread on what warband to run. Unfortunately, the ideas presented either didn't appeal to me, wouldn't work in the local metagame, or required too much practice to get competitive with. So I decided to go with the warband I figured would be the most fun for me, and run Githzerai Monks. Because I knew that there would be at least 2 other monk builds present, I decided to go with Standard Bearer tech rather than Aramil tech, as it allowed for greater leverage in the mirror match. It was a good choice. I also liked being able to use timber wolves as it allowed for me to not worry about using the Young Master for VP grabbing. The Teleport Temple was picked for a combination of the fun factor (I like playing on the map) and for the fact that I am practiced enough to get a competitive advantage on it vs. most opponents.
We ended up with twenty players, with the following Warbands and rankings:
Note I am not sure what my exact tiebreaker ranking was, so its possible I wasn't actually first. :P
Going into the finals: Jesse Dean (dropped) (5-1) Quad Gith Monks + Young Master + Standard Bearer; Teleport Temple Bud Leiser (5-1) Quad Gith Monks + Young Master + Aramil; Dragon Shrine Neil Mclellan (5-1) Human Blackguard + Chraal + 2 Zakyas + Duergar champion; Magma Keep Micheal Smith (4-2) Aspect of Moradin + Iron Golem; Drow Outpost TJ Page (4-2) SWarm + Bodyguard; King's Road Kevin Page (4-2) SWarm + Bodyguard; King's Road Bill Baldwin (4-2) Blackguard + Chraal + 2 Helmed Horrors; ?? Jim Bok (3-3) SWarm; Mushroom Cavern Nick Ferguson (3-3) Young Master + 3 Gith Monks + Sword of Heironeous + Dwarf Artificer; King's Road Chris Squires (3-3) Ballista Kord Lathander
Other people whose records I am not sure of. I apologize to the people who I played who I forgot the names. I am bad with names.: Yvette: Dual Hill Giants Chris: Dual Hill Giants Alicia Baldwin: Moradin Iron Golem Sam Santos: Large Red Dragon + 2 Red Samurais Unknown: Vampire Aristocrat/Trog Barbarians/Warduke Unknown: Dark Naga + 2 Duergar champions + 2 Night Hags Unknown: Quad Monk with Aramil Morgan: CE Quad? Morgan's Brother-in-law: Kord/Netanyar/Steelheart Archers Scarlet: MCB
Final breakdown: 12 LG (60%) 5 CE (25%) 2 LE (10%) 1 CG (5%)
Honestly, I was surprised that we saw as little LG as we did.
Here are the matches I faced: Round 1 vs. Scarlet (MCB) on Teleport Temple Scarlet is a new player, and had never played her warband before. She was using Bud's pieces and her only knowledge of playing was based on the instruction I had given her immediately before the match. on top of that she had the misfortune of playing on my map, resulting in me being able to outmanuver her, kill everything but the bodyguard and the Marut, and then run away.
1-0
Round 2 vs. Jim Bok (SWarm) on Teleport Temple I won map initiative and thought a little bit about whether to take my map or my opponent's and decided that mine worked better. This game ended up being well played on both sides, with each of us making a mistake. He got luckier than I did, and was able to use his natural warband advantage combined with his rolls to beat me. His original strategy was to wall up on a victory area with the Sacred Watchers, in order to protect his Sword Archon, while he had another Sacred Watcher out point hunting. Fortunately for me, he made the mistake of leaving his Sword Archon open with no guys left to move. I had 2 gith monks left and no young master, so I decided to take advantage of it anyway, and moved in and did two auto-crit stuns. He made both of his stun checks. Next round he won initiative and eliminated one of the monks (hit failed morale save.) I was able to finish him off with the other monk, after moving my Young Master up, by critting him him with the remaining gith monk's stunning attack. At that point he sent his Sacred Watchers after my Young Master, though he did not completely block off my path. I used my other monks and a timber wolf to set up a defensive location, on my victory area hoping that I could keep my Young Master alive while accruing victory points. Part of my plan was killing a Standard Bearer that was blocking my gith monks teleport path so I could teleport over and put it into a defensive position. Unfortunately, I did not consider the risk aspect as well as I should have and didn't use my monks auto-crit. That was a mistake. I missed both times and was able to leave an opening for the Sacred Watchers to get in to my Young Master. After they eliminated it ended up in a slug out, with them killing one of my gith monks and forcing another one to route off the board while I tried to whittle down the Sacred Watchers. He killed m last gith monk faster than I could eliminate his last Sacred Watcher, giving him the game.
1-1
Round 3 vs. ??? (Naga + Duergar + Night Hag quad) on Broken Demongate I got the "Good" side of the map and split my warband up so that the young master, one gith monk, and the standard bearer are close and the rest of the warband is far. His kobold miner ends up in the closer victory area and he wins first round init. He goes first and starts moving his guys out. I kill his kobold miner. He moves up his guy into the central area, while I keep my monks spread out and at a distance. He enfeebles my monk. I move the enfeebled monk up to auto-crit stun his naga I auto-crit and successfully stun one of his duergar champions. I stun his other duergar champion. I kill both of the duergar champions and have his dark naga flanked and unable to get away. He concedes.
2-1
Round 4 vs. ??? (Quad Giths + Aramil) on Dragonshrine I get the fire side and advance slowly so as to properly defend the Standard Bearer. With my Timber Wolf on the far victory area he double moves his gith monk to base him. I move out my remaining gith monk and young master, basing his gith monk with mine, and putting my young master within 6 of his gith monk (though the Standard Bearer is still far away.) I win init and auto-crit stun his monk. The monk makes morale save and stun save. He kills the wolf and tried to flee. I stun him on the AoO. He moves one of his monks over into a threatening position on my standard bearer. I place my monks in positions where they can both defend my standard bearer and my young master. He moves his last two monks to base the Young Master. I win init and kill one of his gith monks. He tries to morale save my Young Master but fails. I force his other gith monk to run. He concedes.
3-1
Round 5 vs. TJ Page (SWarm Bodyguard) on Teleport Temple He wins map init and chooses my map. His initial strategy is to keep the vulnerable parts of his band back while his Sacred Watchers go hunting. This quickly changes after I kill a Sacred Watcher. He pulls his pieces out and I am able to get a strike off on his Sword Archon after he uses it to kill my VA grabber. Next round he attacks the Gith Monk and I make the morale save. Another monk moves in and auto-crit stuns, stunning first the bodyguard than the Sword Archon. The injured monk finishes the Sword Archon off with a normal attack. After this it becomes a slug fest, with me losing 1 or 2 monks to the Sacred Watchers. Eventually I win on tile points, as this entire fight was on my victory area.
4-1
Round 6 vs. Bud Leiser I get map and choose his as it allows me more oppurtunities to defend my Standard Bearer. I win side and take the fire side. I advance slowly so as to properly defend the Standard Bearer. Third round he leaves an opening where he only has one gith monk left and I have three gith monks and the young master. Two of the monks are in position to charge. I move in the Young Master into a place where both the gith monks can use his commander effect but his gith monk can't get to mine. I charge in and do auto-crit stuns. He makes both of his stun checks and his morale saves. He counters on one of my monks and I fail a stun save but make the morale save. I win initiative, move in my standard bearer, and then kill off one of his monks with the third monks auto-crit stun, while also moving my remaining gith monk in position. He is able to stun another monk, and I slowly grind away at his units. I make a mistake and move my Young Master in to finish Aramil, thinking that the monk next to Aramil is his rather than mine. Whoops. Eventually I am able to kill enough of his units that I win, but not before he stuns another monk and my Standard Bearer with his Timber Wolf.
5-1
At this point I drop to get as many locals in the Top 4 as possible.
Overall, I think that (once again) I made a good warband choice for the meta, and with the bands that were in the Top 4, I think I had a good chance of winning it. However, getting as many locals to Gen Con as possible was more important to me than winning, and it looks like all the people who made the Top 4 will be going. So it worked out well in the end. [:)] Thanks to everyone who came out, and hopefully I will see many of you at the pre-release on Saturday! | | I am not gone. | |
