AesophDarkfable tells me its the winners job to report and he refuses to [:D]. I've never done this before so bear with me if I report wrong or am too long winded.

I won, it surprised me more than anyone else.

We had a small prerelease only 7, might have been 8 but one watcher couldn’t afford the entry fee. AesophDarkfable and I went with the plan of each of us paying someone else’s entry fee if needed but we thought she was there to cheer her husband on and didn’t find out till later the only reason she wasn’t playing was because they couldn’t afford two $50 entry fees.

My warband:

Epic slaughterstone
sorcerer on black dragon
ogre skimisher
storm archer
cleric of syreth
twig blight
500 points
tomb of queen peregrine

Match 1 vs. Julia Hagan

she was playing:
purple worm
bonded summoner
2 small fire elementals (not summoned)
magma hurler
huge fiendish spider
cleric of laogzed
I can't remember her 8th

I won map init and chose mine. She concentrated her purple worm on my slaughter stone to the exclusion of everything else and just couldn’t hit its 31 ac enough to matter. Meanwhile My black dragon was running around picking off her fodder. It got dicey when her spider poisoned my black and then hit it next round for another 40 but the dragon and storm archer did enough damage to force a morale save it failed and routed off the board. I parked my dragon on a victory area and came out used swift spells on the rest of her band and went back. Time was called just as my slaughterstone was about to kill the purple worm. She had killed my ogre skimisher I had taken everything but the worm and the magma hurler IIRC.

1-0

match 2 vs. nick (never got his last name)

he played:
tundra scout
regular tordek
mountain troll
cleric of syreth
diseased die rat
wererat rogue
cleric of laogzed

We both had the same map so no map roll, he won init and chose to let me set up first. I chose side B then he set his tundra scout up directly across from my sorcerer on black with a clear line of sight. First round I win init run my dragon up to six hit his tundra scout with maximize scorching ray and back off as much as I can. He runs his tundra up and smacks my sorcerer for 25 next turn I take the AOO to back off and shoot my second scorching ray then run like a little girl. Now his tundra scout is down to 30 hps, I run my slaughterstone up between the sorcerer and tundra scout then next round run in with enhanced mobility and reach to use all my attacks and get two on the scout to kill it and two on tordek for 30 damage. And that was that, he threw tordek and the mountain troll at the slaughterstone but just couldn’t hit it enough before it killed both of them. Then the black and slaughterstone when around picking off everything else until game over.

2-0

Match 3 vs. AesophDarkfable

his band:
Aspect of tiamat
blackguard on nightmare(non epic)
warden of the woods
meepo,dragonlord

I won map and used queen peregrine, he won setup and had me go first. Round one he flame stuck my start area killed my twigblight, routed my cleric and did 15 to my sor on black and storm archer. I thought it might be over right there as my only commander routed but fortunately hes slow moving and the exit was on the other side of the map.
It was touch and go for a while my cleric failed his first rally attempt and tiamat caught the sor on black in two breath weapons and it failed both saves and its morale (forshadow I failed every save and initial morale in the game but did make two rallies...whew). Fortunatly my black was two squares from routing off the board and the cleric finally made its rally check right next to it so when he activated next round the sor an black was able to rally. Eventually it came down to a basically undamaged Tiamat (storm archer got one lucky crit before being eaten) vs. slaughterstone and badly wounded black. He chose to hunt down the black and take it out but it managed to do 45,I believe, before dying then we played cat and mouse for 3 rounds until the slaughterstone was finally able to corner Tiamat. AesophDarkfable didn’t think he could run for the 15 minutes left in the match(he was ahead on points) so we went head to head his six attacks, needing 12 or better to hit vs. my 4 attacks needing a 2 or better to hit.
He told me after the match he had faced an epic slaughterstone in his first match and crushed it easily so he underestimated it and went after what he thought was the bigger theat the sorcerer on black and used up all his breath weapons on it and the rest of my band.

3-0

I was pumped my first tournament win vs. AesophDarkfable. We might have gone another round to determine 2nd and 3rd as Julia and Aesoph were dead even but they decided boosters are community property(or rather they all belonged to him [:)]) so it didn’t matter which was 2nd or 3rd.

One surprising thing is one guy pulled the aspect of bahamut and the bluespawn godslayer. I was dreading facing him but later saw he chose not to play the Aspect and ended losing all his matches so I never had to face him anyway.

My first two matches went to time so I didn’t see what everyone else did Aesoph will probably be able to fill in more details.

Congrats to you for winning!

On another note....
$50??!?? Holy schnizzle. Bettendorf was $30!

That would explain why only 7 played. That seems a bit excessive. Gotta get the people addicted with the lower entry fees in order to sell more boosters later

well 7 is about the usual number that shows up there. Its never a big turnout. I couldn't make it up that way, so there went the even number of 8.

Congrats to Maijstral.........hehe.... oh how the mighty fall.

The niles entry fee was 40 so better than I expected ($50 was
what I anticipated). There was rumor or a second tourney after
and the entry would be $35. Not a bad price, but i had to pick
up the kids from gramma's house, so no dice for me.

Nice job Maijstral...slaughterstone looks like the way to run.

Well I figured out a few things I did wrong now in retrospect, but it was a good game and you finally got me. Now Im gunning for you ;)

I should have done one of three things. 1. Of course as we discussed concentrate all my BW on the SSE. 2. PArked on the sacred circle to get an extra +2 vs you. 3. You were stopping at reach instead of basing (a mistake on your part) so I should have attacked 3, then second activation moved 8 making you come to me again. If I would have done that I could have kept foricing one attack each rd instead of multiple and might have had a shot.

7 was actually our highest turn out in a while, but I talked to the guys up there and I think they will be back and we might see an increase in turn out coming.

Im out- find me on Hordelings if you want to chat.

I was attacking at reach because that was as close as I could get and still attack. You would full found attack then double move away and twice you slightly miscounted my move allowing me to get close enough to attack once at reach. My plan was to win init then move up get the full round but in our entire 6 or 7 rounds of cat and mouse I never won init. I retrospect you are right I should have double moved to base you then I would have gotten the AOO if you ran but I tend to forget the AOO aspect of the game.
