WotDQ Pre-Release Tournament Report.

Here’s what I pulled in two boosters:

Dracolich (HR)
Mountain Troll (HU)
Large Green Dragon (R)
Goliath Cleric of Kavaki (R)
Yuan-Ti Half Blood Sorcerer (U)
Greenspawn Razorfiend (U)
Storm Archer (U)
Aasimar Fighter
Tavern Brawler
Doomfist Monk
Cleric of Laogzed
Cloudreaver
Stirge
Dread Warrior
Witchknife
Diseased Dire Rat
+ Huge Fiendish Spider (Promo)

Initially I saw the Dracolich and sighed. But then I put together my warband and thought I had a pretty good build. Here’s what I went with:

Mountain Troll (HU)
Huge Fiendish Spider (Promo)
Large Green Dragon (R)
Yuan-Ti Half Blood Sorcerer (U) [Commander 3]
Greenspawn Razorfiend (U)
Storm Archer (U)
Aasimar Fighter

MAP: Teleport Temple

499 pts, 7 activations.

The Mountain Troll was a beast, almost single handily taking out an Aspect of Tiamat with help from the Large Green Dragons Devious Strategist ability and flaking. Plus his DC 20 Stun was awesome in causing havoc with my opponents figures. The Huge Spider also worked well. All the poison from the Spider and the Yuan-Ti (on the Storm Archers ranged attack) was very helpful with getting to use her CFX. The Aasimar Fighter was a waste of points though, he was to slow to be useful. I would have been better off with the Tavern Brawler at speed 6 as he could have more easily gotten me victory area points. I was not overly impressed with the Greenspawn Razorfiend. He was slow and missed a lot versus the huges. Maybe he’ll do better in 200 point constructed.

Use of the Teleport Temple was a good choice for Mnt Troll, but poor for the HFS (ok for Wal Walker, but too much distance to travel to get to a teleporter. It was very difficult getting out of the starting areas and getting VP’s.

I went 3-1 with the warband and I had a great time. The only burb in the whole day was in the last round of my 3rd game. Both my opponent and I forgot that his Aspect of Tiamat had been stunned by my Mnt Troll again. Well, we were both so caught up in the initiative roll (that he won) we both forgot about the stun. His Aspect of Tiamt was at 25 hit points and I had her based with my Troll (@ 15 HP), my Huge Fiendish Spider (@70 HP and poisoned, 10 dam when activates), and my Large Green Dragon (@25 HP). For the second round in a row I lost initiative and he went, taking all 6 attacks – 1st killing my troll, the next 3 taking my spider to 10 HP so will die on activation, the last 2 killing my Large Green Dragon. In reality if I had remembered, he would not have killed my Spider nor my LGD and I likely would have won with my HFSpider attacking at +24 versus her buffed AC 25 and doing 25 dam (30 minus DR) and killing the AoT. Oh well, new critters and so much to learn and remember.

The best part of day was meeting up with all the DDMers from Syracuse, Rochester, and Watertown, finally getting my hands on some of the WotDQ mini’s, and simply playing DDM for an afternoon.

Way cool. [^]ΖD][)]

Cheers.
