I will be there and maybe I can beat you once.

I will also be bringing a lot of my old commons/uncommons and a few rares from the first three sets for trade.

Jim

Fun day yesterday with another huge turnout of 22 players. I ended up running a CG warband using Regdar to bring in epic Tordek. I ended up going 4-0 and playing some great matches. My band was:

Ryld
Regdar
epic Tordek
Rask
Warforged Barbarian
Mephling Pyromancer
Crow Shaman
Nebin

Map: King’s Road

My first match was vs. Jim Musselmon (jmuss101). I won map init so we played on the King’s Road. He was running: Cleric of Order, epic Tordek, epic SSE, Eberk, Lantern Bearer, Standard Bearer, Warforged Scout X2. Tordek vs. Tordek, and Tordek with F8 and Conceal 6 wins out. Rask with F8 and conceal was flying around taking out his lesser pieces. Jim went on to finish 3-1.

My second game was vs. Rowan. He was running: Cadaver Collector, Barbed Devil, Aspect of Hextor, Large Green Dragon, Greenspawn Razorfiend X2 and Skullcrusher Ogre. I won map init again, so it was the King’s Road. I was able to take out the LGD first and use Tordeks manueverability to take down the other pieces while controlling intiative. Rowan finished 2-2.

The third match of the day would prove the most challenging. I was playing against Matt Berry and he was using: Aspect of Bahamut, Cleric of Syreth, War Weaver, Warforged Scout, Meepo, Justice Archon and Spellscale Sorcerer. He had dominated his opponents early using the Teleport Temple. It was a big initiative roll for map and I rolled a 17 to his 16. King’s Road again. It came down to Tordek vs Bahamut both with conceal. I was lucky and rolled a 20 with my first attack after moving doing 90 dmg. Bahamut was able to use its line and eliminate some lesser pieces while dropping Ryld to 15 hp. He made his MC and stayed alive the rest of the game to give Tordek his +2 to attack Bahamut. Tordek was able to stay the course and destroy Bahamut in about 2 rounds with the crow shaman staying out of LOS from the Spellscale. It was a great game! He ended up 3-1.

My final match was vs one of the other two undefeateds, Steven Honeycutt. Stephan was using:
Bluespawn Godslayer X2, Death Knight, Greenspawn Razorfiend, Hobgoblin Talon of Tiamat, Green Dragon, and Kobold Sorcerer on Queen Pergrines Tomb. I won map init again and we played on the KR. The theme of the day held true, a flying, blurred epic Tordek is pretty unbeatable. I was able to drop on of the Barney’s to 5 HP and then destroy it using Bloody Rage when my Warforged Barbarian activated. That was pretty nasty. Stephan is an excellent player.

All in all, it was a great day. I ended up winning 3 WotDQ boosters for finishing first. Thanks to Jessica for running a great event. If any of you are semi-local, you should come check out one of our tournaments. It is a great group of people. I have an entire list of the warbands which I will post when I have time later.

All roads lead to Amber

As Bleys said, it was another great turnout for Bloominington! We had 22 players for our Epic tourney. I ended up in fourth place with a 3-1 record. I ran epic Tordek, Arcane Ballista, Cleric of Dol Arrah, Couatl, Mephling Pyromancer, Githzerai Monk, War Weaver, and Aasimar Favored Soul on Dragondown Grotto.

My first match was against an inexperienced player who ran Aspect of Bahamut, Golden Protector x2, Large Bronze Dragon, and Meepo on Field of Ruin. My opponent won map initiative, but she chose my map. The Ballista really tore up one Golden Protector, and it landed a couple of shots on Bahamut, too. Tordek got into the mix, dispatching a Golden Protector and cleaving into the Bronze. After cleaning up the Bronze, Tordek started in on Bahamut. The Aspect rolled a one on morale, and that was about it.

My second match was against an opponent running epic Dragon Totem Hero, Bluespawn Godslayer, Silver Sorcerer x2, Gold Champion, and I think a timber wolf or two. I’m not sure what his map was, but I won map init. My Ballista rolled well on conceal, taking the Bluespawn down to half rather quickly. While Tordek finished the job, the Ballista turned its attention to the Dragon Totem Hero. Having positioned the Ballista in the forest, I was able to continually fire upon the Hero, and Tordek eventually finished up the job. The rest of the party fell quickly.

My third match was a nailbiter. I played against an excellent player (gamepreserveguy) who ran Aspect of Bahamut, Couatl, Rikka, Aramil, Dwarf Artificer, Warforged Scout, Meepo, and War Weaver on Teleport Temple. The dreaded broken warband! Well, I don’t think it’s a broken combo. Though I lost the match, with a bit of practice, I feel confident that I could take it down. I lost both map and placement init, but I won first turn init. I got onto teleporters quickly, and I had placed my figures in such a way that it blocked my opponent from coning more than my Aasimar on my start area. Bahamut got into the thick of things anyway, and pretty soon I had it down to 40 HP. Then, it started to run. Rikka healed it so that one hit from my enfeebled Tordek wouldn’t take it down, and time ran out before I could catch up with it and deliver the killing blows.

My fourth match was against a talented first timer who ran epic Lord Soth, Beholder x2, Iron Golem, Diseased Dire Rat, and Timber Wolf x3 on Dragondown Grotto. I won placement initiative. Though I got first blood with the Ballista, a Beholder succeeded in first disintegrating it, then sliding it down the steep slope for the final five damage. That was a nice move. However, Tordek maneuvered into a position where he could beat on Soth and be seen by only one Beholder. Soth missed two attacks on Tordek, and then he went down quickly, taking the Iron Golem with him. From there, it’s one hit and a MC for each Beholder.

The one loss really affected me, as it was really the only challenging match, and I lost it. Ah well, my consolation is that I pulled a Large Green Dragon from my prize booster. Again, the Game Preserve ran an excellent event, and Bloomington players showed themselves to be both skilled and fun.

hey guys, thought i'd drop in and ad my match results in on this for anyone thats interested.

my band was what bleys said:
double godslayer
talon of tiamat
kobold sorcerer
greenspawn
green dragon (medium)
and deathknight

chose the tomb because of the first turn line of sight with abyssal blast, which i used about half the time, winning map init. picked up that trick from a good friend and player, the guy who took second.

first match was against a newer player who was using the huges he got at the prerelease. same commander in the talon of tiamat, a bluespawn, and a dracolich. first turn abyssal blast took out two of his activations and would have forced moral on his commander if he hadn't saved. he got impatient with his dracolich and one of my bluespawns took it out single handedly. was able to position the talon so he was within six of both barneys. deathknight when commander hunting while other bluespawn went toe to toe with his.

second match was against a quad marut band, three standard one epic. with no magic weapons around anywhere on his side, DR10 helped incredibly. could've been different with MW. so i go 2-0

third was against a player id played many tournament games against and who is getting better each time he plays. definitley a local rising star. he was running standard and epic griff cavalry, purple worm, and lots of magic weapons and blurs. this was a REALLY close match. bluespawn1 tied up with the worm and got poisened, but managed to dispatch it. bluespawn2 met the epic cavalry and got powerfully charged, which hurt, and the epic griff stood alone after killing both spawns. came down to my two commanders and a greenspawn that was dead if he got hit against his epic griff with 15 hp. i won init, greenspawn swings and misses conceal, swings again and hits, ending the match. far closer than i ever want again.

last match was to bleys, and the outcome was typical: he beats and says i'm a good player and i'm getting better. which i thank him for, cause i can use the confidense booster. all i can say is this:

after fighting two of my hardest matches against bands that stick blurr on their hitters i've discovered...conceal six is so demoralizing.

went 3-1 taking fifth
